I thought I'd make this request in a new post rather than attach it to the Pro DJ Show post, in case it got lost or overlooked.

Basically, for those who are yet unaware, there will be a small selection of DJ Rigs setup at the show.

These are for visitors to look at, around etc... and to see how other DJs and rigs are setup.

The rigs should be setup as they would be normally, this then creates an ideal opportunity for visitors to get new ideas and or to give good advice to those who own the rigs.

Now as it happens, I have one space up for grabs due to someone pulling out.

So I though I'd offer it to a DJU member.

There is a small charge which is to cover at least some of the floor space costs.

However I feel the charge is far outweighed by the benefits you mat recieve from advice, suggestions or even the thumbs up you would recieve.

The fee is a one off fee of £25.00

Power is supplied however audio is not required nor wanted to be honest, so set everything up as normal , just do not switch your amps on.

There may even be a live interview conducted with each DJ Rig providor, this will be transmitted to all the rooms (except seminar rooms) via the venues built in wireless systems.

We may also have a local radio station there on the day doing a live link feed, so may go out on that too.

That's all and thanks for reading...

Anyone interested please PM me, or failing that email me via the show website.

Regards,

Phil Hulton

So, correct me if I am wrong, but you want ME to pay YOU £25 to make your show a success ?

The only people going to the show will be other DJ's so not much chance of any work coming from it, just a friendly chat to others.

Am I correct ?

.....but what do I know ?

I must admit that I saw it like that too. I'm not having a go mate and I wouldn't be able to do it myself. I see that you probably have to cover the cost of the venue somehow though.

Shakermaker Promotions

Indie / Rock & Alternative Specialist (But I can cater for everything else too).

There are often lots of ways at looking at the same thing, I guess that this is one of them.

My attendance at The Pro DJ show this year (although I'll be in the exhibtor hall, raher than the DJ Rigs hall) will be my first visit up there.

However, at the SEDA meetings which I regularly attend, they nearly always have a "members rig" set-up, in amongst the exhibitors. The members rig is usually set up exactly like it would be if it were at a "real" gig. The only exception perhaps, being that the rig is set up a good 6ft away from the walls, to allow for a fairly steady flow of members to discuss the set-up. It's often a lively and informative 2(or more)-way discussion, often with the rig owner taking away suggestions and/or ideas for improvements, just as much as the viewing members.

In some cases, the discussions may simply be "oh, I see you use that new xyz123 item. What's it like?". Even these such exchanges are often useful for both parties.

I can see however that being asked to contribute for a proportion of the floorspace might make thoughts go toward the wallet, especially when the milage to and from Lancaster is taken into account.

By the way Phil, Is there a list of exhibitors? I can only find the 3 seminar givers eg: Bose, Cortex etc, on the website.

Must admit, I don't see the point of such a display of someone elses gear when it's not really open to the public.

I would be stuck as to which gear to bring anyway...... tongue out icon

Hey!....perhaps we could get all the choccy fountain operators to attend and we could compare chocolate & dips...... :dan+ju:

I really can't think of anything more satisfying than the thought of setting up equipment and exhibiting the glory of the deck and fuzz light.

Those straight lines and fine curves for all to admire whilst the owner soaks up the adoration as squeaky sweaty fingers massage and hot breath condensates on the badge names…..

Watch the misery of enlightenment dawn, and spread like a cross between a Mexican wave and the 2001: Space Odyssey moment where the ape man discovers....grunt....weapon!

Beady little eyes will focus as the 250W chunky conventional red carpet covered box speakers are set up next to the masochists sleek towering muscle array of 'shhhhhhsh, you know who' sound-system.....to then leave un-plugged or stood silent in front of the basketball court floor….no sound…..no music…..

The static convoy gathering of 'Mobile' line ups unprecedented in sight and glory since 'the Rubber Duck' walloped Kris Kristofferson for an unofficial thumb innuendo to help him make it thru the night…..all in front of the Rebel MC "whose in the crowd?"

"no one" said the little voice……… but I'll give you a thumbs up for the effort.

It's pure genius this. Bloody brilliant idea really!

I say, you've all got to go just to see the live bit!

Well Gary was the only one to understand the concept of this, and maybe Roadie.. not sure on that one yet. lol

It's not a "mine bigger than yours" hence why the audio will not be amplified.

It was merely a chance to setup your normal rigs and allow others to see how YOU do it, and for YOU to take in Comments and Suggestions, or even advice on how YOU could better YOUR rigs.

So it seems everyone has the perfect rig already and are themselves endowed with large ego's and do not want nor need any advice from your peers.

I wonder, if PLASA had an area where DJs setup their rigs for other DJs to look around, how many of you would bother to look?

About taking bookings,, sheesh... this is a DJ Show not a wedding fair. If you're that stuck for bookins I'm sure we could have a whip round :) hehe

As for the money, as someone noted, I do have to cover the costs, and £25 DOES NOT cover them fully for the floor space used, I am subbing the rest to see if the idea is viable.

Once DJs get over their OWN ego's it might actually work.

So what price can a DJ put on good advice? What if one little comment were to save you 10 minutes each gig through doing something different or something you had never thought of?

How many times do DJs talk about their rigs together, but never really get any benefits out of it as they can not fully grasp the in's and out's of each others setup's?

Eddie from Pro Mobile thought this was an excellent idea and is or rather was, going to take photo's of each rig to feature in the magazine... guess it will have to be the pattern on the carpet instead.. seems were more intereste din that these days. ;)

All tongue in cheek guys... but I do despair sometimes as to how this industry can ever evolve into something better when we or rather you yourselves hold it back so often.

I could of course forget about DJ rigs, and sell the floor space at 3 times the amount to Exhibitors, and make it like other DJ Shows, same old same old, walk around 4 times and leave.

I've rearranged things a little already so there is only space for 4 or 5 rigs now... even at £25 that's not a lot in total, one of the DJ associations could sponsor this area and allow DJs to display for Free... well ok in an ideal world maybe :)

Failing that, how would you all like an indoor bouncy castle. lol

Gary..

Exhibitors as per today include:

Denon

LFX

Prolight

Spectrum Lasers

Gemini / Cortex

EVL

Pcdj

Mixmash

Pro Mobile

Cookies

Phase One

Bpm Show

DJ Show North

erm,, and some others lol

Writing this off the top of my head as I'm off away from PC now and don't want to dig out the info.

Won't be long until all exhibitors have confirmed and payed up, so a list will be publicly available after that point.

When you say you'll be in the Exhibitors Hall, will you be helping on a Stand?

Yes, the one that was on the very top of your list above - with probably the first/most northern-most viewing of the Denon DN-HD2500

Have replied, double cheers. lol

Gary, Ah Denon, ok cool.

They are one that I am chasing up at the moment. Not replied to my last email... yet :)

Always difficult getting companies to part with their petty cash tin contents.

Up to now the entire Show is funded form my own pocket... so be nice to put some food back on the table over the next month. lol

You know I am thinking about popping my own rig in there, but i won;t be with it most of thr time,, suppose I could leave a comments box on it. lol make interesting reading later that's for sure.

Like some other DJs I am not normal and always custom build racks and cases, and I also make my own custom wiring looms up, some of which I know will be of interest for those who have to deal with lot's of cabling for their rigs.

I can set it up the day before, and see how it goes.. my lad could man the rig I suppose, but wouldn't be able to answer very technical questions.

But I too would be eager to see if anyone has better solutions that would make my DJing life easier on the road.

Also Gary, would you or someone From Denon require a seminar slot so that for those seriously interested, they can receive a more focussed demo etc.. ?

I'll send you a PM on that. We always do really well with 1-to-1 type demos, and also the 5 or 10 minute "pass-the-mic" sessions.

I'm pretty sire that Cortex with be setting the scene for the benefits of a dedicated "built-for-the-job" hard drive controller, versus ye olde domestic interim solutions, but theres a lot of extras to cover, if we can staff the stand deep enough whilst one person is holding the seminar... hmmmm

Replied to your PM.

In short, if you need a member of staff to help on the stand during a seminar slot, then that should be no problem.

Keep the visiting DJs happy until a Denon rep is free to chat with them.

DJs watching DJs....without no audio facility? You bloody masochist!

and for YOU to take in Comments and Suggestions, or even advice on how YOU could better YOUR rigs.

From fellow DJs right?

So it seems everyone has the perfect rig already and are themselves endowed with large ego's and do not want nor need any advice from your peers.

Can't DJs get free advice from the forum or the event nights at DJ Association meetings?

I wonder, if PLASA had an area where DJs setup their rigs for other DJs to look around, how many of you would bother to look?

You can't get that many rigs on a stage!!!! There would be a bundle!

About taking bookings,, sheesh... this is a DJ Show not a wedding fair. If you're that stuck for bookins I'm sure we could have a whip round :) hehe

Wouldn't it make sense for DJs to invite anyone interested to visit the DJs setup and for a small entrance fee (admission) could go towards subsidising the pitch fee or at least funding any shortcomings?

:karen: :D
