Wonder if any of you clever dudes can help?

Just got a pc for home/studio use and it's vista. On my lap top that I use for gigs it has windows xp on and I use an m-audio audiophile sound card which is great. However the m-audio is not compatible with vista http://planetsmilies.net/violent-smiley-1491.gif

So has anybody got a thought on an alternative that is vista happy.

Cheers.

You may have a bit of a wait.

XP systems which were withdrawn from retail outlets have started to be put back due to demand - according to news.

Ask Paul Smithy what problems he's had with third party gear and Vista!!!!

Great thanks, that's made my day! http://planetsmilies.net/violent-smiley-1378.gif

As I said I run a laptop with xp and it's gonna STAY xp! http://planetsmilies.net/grinning-smiley-9513.gif For gigs I'm still fine, it's just for home use that I'm stuck.

Thanks for your reply though.

How much you wanna spend ??

Look at the Edirol UA 101 or FA 101 should work on any PC with Fire wire (FA) or USB (UA)

Thanks Nik but if you look at the system requirements there's no mention of vista, doesn't say it does support, doesn't say it doesn't. I would bet though it's not compatible.

Cheers though.

As Dan says I have Vista - been using it now for 7 weeks which is 49 days too long IMHO.

I haven't found any advantages over XP (or Win 98 for that matter) but loads of disadvantages - it's soooooo slooooow for one, none of the original drivers for additional hardware (printer, camera, router) work with it and the updates, whether from the OEM or MS, are not 100% satisfactory.

I typed 'Vista Running Slow' into Google and there were over 1 million sites that met the search criteria :dan+ju: Even MS own software (Office 2003, FrontPage etc) doesn't run properly with this operating system (even after the updates).

To sum up it's a pile of :poo:

I have to disagree,,,

I like vista , its been a long time coming and it resolves a lot of problems that i have had with XP..

any newish Creative labs card will work with vista for the purpose of this topic...

anyway you can use your m-audio with vista

As Vista drivers become available they will be posted to our Drivers page immediately. If a driver is offered during the beta (pre-release) phase of its development, you will need to click the “Show Beta Drivers” option on the Drivers page in order to view and download that particular driver.

Err well I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you, you CANNOT use an m-audio firewire audiophile on vista, how do I know? Apart from trying to load the drivers on my pc plus checking on their website for any updates, I telephoned their help desk on 01309 671301 (feel free to call) to hear from the horses mouth..... and they said it was NOT compatible at the moment, a new driver is under testing and they're looking to release it within a few weeks.

So how you know more than m-audio, to be honest amazes me! http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-10090.gif

Vista is a pile of Poo, anyone want to have a laugh, try getting a Vista PC to work with an ordinary modem USB or PCI, it matters not.

There are still some areas down here that do not have broadband access and if you get a PC with Vista as you're operating system, you ain't getting online with a modem. No drivers for them, and as it is assumed that most people will be on broadband, no plans to make a Vista compatible modem.

Good eh!

I must admit, when I first saw this topic I did a search...and I must agree with Marky......there certainly do appear to be vista upgrades available for at least some of the m-audio cards!!!!

Cheers!

Ha Ha, It was in Cornwall that we were having the problems. Not me, a couple of family friends who both bought Vista computers within about 10 days of each other, one living one side of Bodmin Moor and another living the other, neither have access to a broadband connection.

:otop: Ha, AFC Bournemouth. One of the best games I ever saw was at your ground, evening game in Jan 75, we won 3-7. Great team we had then.
