Dj's United

Weekend 30th July - 1st August

Recommended Posts

Right, for me I'm trying to get as much cash as possible. I have van problems that will not be cheap... so probably working on my DJ website and others...

Anyway...

I've my children again this weekend, so weather permitting a BBQ on Saturday

Sunday, dropping them off early, then running a Summer Garden Party, luckily not much gear needed.

Message from client;

Party kicks off with some gentle summer vibes, moving through latin pop after 4pm, then some latest stuff until 6-7, following through with slower evening sounds and at around 9pm, some gentle jazzy music until 10pm. Then get your arses in the hot tub...

Open to your suggestions however, feel free to modify as required, see you Sunday!

Yes.... he wants 8hrs... :bloodyhell:

So, any suggestions on "latin pop"? - I assume Numero Uno won't count :funjokeandlaugh:

Over to you!!

not the new van ?

:(

Was having trouble starting when hot. It otherwise started fine from cold and was smooth/not smoking etc.

Lots of info online about "leak off pipes" that perish, so got some in, replaced.

Van then did not start at all..

Local garage suspected fuel filter, repleaced that and it started. Drove it to their unit, and it then would not start again, rechecked NEW fuel filter to find lots of :crap: in there.

They've always been straight and honest with us, and their suggestion is to take to a Diesel specialist up in Hoddesdon, as the actual problem could be a number of fairly expensive things.

Sadly - it was a private sale, so it needs repairing. Lots of info online, and its pretty grusome reading. Could be fuel

I'm looking at Van hire for next weeks gigs - currently about £100 for Fri am pick-up and Mon am drop-off.

(Un)luckily, I have no other gigs in Aug (apart from one this Sun, and 2 next week), and 1st gig is early sept.

Nothing for me tonight (Friday)

Saturday Wedding ...But a strange one I am working from 3.00pm - 7.00pm (In a Marquee) then hand over to another disco who finishes at 11.00pm (Within the main house) the whole wedding is bizarre to say the least. They have also booked belly dance lesson for the guests together with a dance-a-size session.

They have laid a clown, magician and animal man for the childrens entertainment during the afternoon.

No wedding breakfast - Just a Hog Roast and BBQ during the afternoon.

No Speeches or First Dance.

Sunday - Client meeting in London

Engagement party tomorrow night and the venue has a sound limiter, my first experience of one!

Just keep an eye on the levels and watch the lights on the limiter and you will be fine.

Bizarre to say the least wasn't worth me being there I just ended up playing background music.... arrived and set up by 2.00 along with all the other entertainers except the other DJ as per terms from the clients.

We were all set ready for the 3.00pm kick off but the Wedding party didn't arrive until 4.15 due to photographs.

I started playing as per shedule and had not one person in the marquee except the staff.

I went to see the Bride and Groom who told me just to play some Light Jazzy style music and to join in with their celebration within the grounds.

4.15 Childrens entertainment starts in main house

5.30 -6.15 Belly Dance all the guests come into the marquee for a demonstration / lesson

6.15 - 6.45 - Dance-a-size 90% of the guests joined in very entertaining

6.45 Hog Roast and BBQ served

7.00 I start to break down

The other DJ is set up in the main house by 6.15 and starts as I end.

I stayed on (at the request of the B & G) for a while for some food and to see how things progressed into the evening. Most of the guests sat in the garden until 8.00 when they were requested to go in to the main house to start the evenings dancing which happened.....the guests were like sheep and all followed in started dancing. I left at 8.30 to start my 2 1/2 hour drive home.

How bizarre. So why did they get 2 disco's is the question. did they dance all night or do the token first dance then back outside.

I have had a right funny old weekend. Did a corporate do on friday night for a local theme park whos staff is mostly teenagers. They are a funny bunch at the best of times and i had 2 aspiring dj's checking me out. 1 has a load of illegal software and tunes so i put the frighteners on him and the other was obviously used to listening to rave on his phone. he insisted on me rolling all the bottom end off and adding a bit more top. i did this for a laugh and sent him across the room for a listen and then rolled the bass back up. he let me carry doing my own thing after that

on saturday i played alongside the Devils Fire Barn Dance Band. What a laugh that was. They were a tongue in cheek barn dance/ceilidh band....from bolton. Peter Kay meets Dukes of Hazzard. They were a bunch of very talented wrinkley old men, shame there was only 40 guests.

120 yards from van to dance floor, good job i had the trolley.

They were still going for it when I left....some of them were really punching out some shapes :funjokeandlaugh:

Not sure why 2 discos may be the other DJ couldn't do the first part....as I said was a really bizarre day from the off. Still they paid well in advance + a premium for the distance to and from the venue so I can't complain one bit.

To be honest it was very easy and I networked with some very nice people.

The B & G phoned this afternoon to thank me for playing a part in their day, which can't be bad as I really was only a Jukebox.

I know how you feel Ray.

I had a gig a month ago for my School's Celebration weekend. I was hired to start from 9:30pm-ish till midnight/whenever people went. There was a fish and chip meal before hand and some inflatable surfing machines and bouncy castle stuff on the field outside. It started at 7 so ample time for people to eat and socialise before I started the disco.

Turned out that the fish van was late and that a massive cue formed so it wasn't until 10:30 they had all eaten etc... So I fired up the speakers and started pumping out the tunes. A smattering of people turned up and dance then went away. Then the dance floor remained empty for the whole night.

Turned out they were playing bingo in the lunch hall next to the disco! It baffled me that they had hired me at all when they had a series of things they were going to do for the evening.

What put the icing on the cake was that the clients wife asked me to turn the music down because it was too loud and they couldn't hear the numbers being called!

I don't mind setting up and people sitting looking at the dance floor all night and then de-rigging the whole thing. But buggering off to do other stuff seemed a bit unfair. Still got paid though.

James
