  1. Nice one Andy I bet the sound is great with those Bass bins and you obviously need a roadie. I bet too that you had a great buzz with the dance floor packed like that.
  2. Full story on this thread: http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=18672&st=0 Kicking myself a bit now. Replacement mixer arrived from Thoman yesterday so I would have had the gear to do it. (If only I understood women and could have predicted what the wifes reaction would be) :wall: Spoke to the local colleague last night, and he's doing it for £300 after me telling him that they were prepared to pay me £400
  3. Update: I realised when I got home last night that I couldn't realisticly do it anyway, as I sent my mixer back to Thoman for replacement after I lost/gave up the hotel Christmas run, and my next booking wasn't till 12th Feb. Obviously, I do have a backup mixer (or 2), but would have to mess about with an external effects unit for the mics. I've now put them in touch with a local colleague. You just can't win with women though can you. Wife was not impressed that I've passed up £400, even though it was her that wanted me to have NYE off for a change. :wall:
  4. Just had a phone call this morning from a local club looking for someone with Karaoke for NYE, the usual thing, the one they had booked (for £180 with the promise of regular bookings) has let them down. Now I'm not working, and don't particularly want to work. I told them the cheapest I could do it for (if I was able to do it after consulting her who must be obeyed) would be £400. This is still cheaper than it should be on my prices, would be £520 at my double time rate, which would be my proper price. They've since come back to me and said would I do it any cheaper with the promise
  5. I think it's only fair to point out (in case someone who knows nothing about mics reads this thread), that whether a mic needs eq-ing is not entirely down to the mic, it depends on the persons voice too. I have an SM58 UHF, when I use it I have to cut the Bass because I have a very Bassy voice. If my son then tries to use the mic with the eq set for me, he sounds like he's on the end of a telephone.
  6. :fish: I do a few a year where I play up to an hour of strict tempo stuff. It was my intention to go through all my music with my brother (who used to play the organ for seqence dancing) and add the dance to the track title, but never managed it. I think I'll start another topic where people can post sequence tracks (other than the usual VS tracks) with the dance for them. Moon River  excellent choice for a waltz.
  7. When BigBen (Richard Benson) was moving down south, I bought one of his JBL subs of him. I now need another to match the one I've got, as I really need to put one each side of the stage for Gang Show. I've spoken to Richard and he sold the other one to a member of the Forum, but he can't remember who. So if you know of a JBL Eon 15" Powered Sub (the grey ones) for sale, or if you're the person that bought Richards and no longer want it, please PM me. Thanks Paul
  8. 999,981 The 2 most important words for a long and happy mariage are "Yes Dear" I can't believe I just posted on this thread
  9. In the scenario you gave at the start, I charge exactly the same. I do however, give the wedding more for their money with pre-event meeting etc.
  10. Set up in the small bar with the brief to entertain the restaraunt guests when they come out from their meal. Mic work not wanted, just party music and what the guests want. Pub already had a lot of "kids" in before I started. Feedback (via the agent) after the first night was music was all over the place, jumping about from type to type too much and played tunes that were not party tunes. (These non-party tunes were requests), and I think the slowest "non-request" track I played all night was Uptown Girl. I always play in sets of 3 or 4 of any genre. So the brief for the se
  11. I've got none now :dan+ju: Hotel gigs were a nightmare and I decided by the end of the second night that I couldn't work with the management there. Rang the agent who booked me to tell him that I wouldn't be going back there for the rest of them, only to find out, they didn't want me back there anyway. Something of a novelty for me, I've never been sacked before.
  12. 7 for a hotel, and 1 private one for a business centre tonight. I'm determined to not work NYE next year. :wall:
  13. I won the Euromillions last week  Trouble is, I can't find the ticket that I didn't buy.
  14. Ace of Base - Always Have, Always Will is one of my "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" tracks.
  15. Most obvious one for me is Scissor Sisters - I don't feel like dancing. I know I'm getting old and senile, but wasn't Gina G pre noughties
  16. Sat night was my first of 7 Christmas type gigs for a hotel, the Christmas spirit just didn't seem to be there, so I didn't play any. Might manage to squeeze a couple in this Friday for a Staff Christmas party I'm doing.
  17. I do that every single night, so don't worry about it.
  18. Here you go http://www.djsite.info/idx/0/017/article/C...ct-Writing.html
  19. I'm absolutely staggered because I know how it's done
  20. Seems nobody started one for the weekend just gone. Just Friday night for me. A repeat booking form last year because of the music I played while they were eating their meal. (All soft instrumental Musak). It was a golf club dinner dance, and apart from getting in and out of the room which is up a set of outside wooden stairs, it's one of my favourite gigs. Half the room wanted ballroom, ie: quicksteps, foxtrots etc. (right up my street), while the other half wanted typical disco music. So I had to keep alternating between styles to keep everyone happy. Biggest laugh of the
  21. M3KTG is the name you're looking for, but Kevin doesn't come on very often. Hasn't been on since August.
  22. Eeeh!, I can remember (vaguely ) the days when I used to want things for Christmas. These days, the wife and kids ask me what I want for Christmas and I have to say "I haven't a clue". Mind you, the wife says the same thing when I ask her. Maybe I'll ask for one of those electric beds like they have in the private hospitals, that you can put into all sorts of postitions to get comfortable. Ooh, and maybe a stairlift  Me thinks, I'm getting old.
  23. PCDJ Red VRM In the new year I'll be adding the Karaoke plug in as well, so that'll be another load of discs I won't need to carry.
