  1. Lady Gagarararara - Bad Romance Tina Turner - Private Dancer Pink - Family Portrait Believe it or not, there are people out there who think that 'Street Life' and 'Lady in Red' are songs about prostitutes :ads: . I've been approached by elderly members of the audience on both occasions, and chastised for playing unsavoury tracks . If you read the lyrics of a lot of popular mainstream songs, we probably would have a very short and boring playlist . Seems that relationship breakdowns and being trapped in a bad marriage are very lucrative subjects for the pop world and selli
  2. It was announced in the press some days ago, that ALL pubs in the UK will be allowed to stay open beyond their normal licensing hours, upto 1AM in the case of 'normal' licensed venues which don't currently have late licenses, all in celebration of the Royal Wedding on April 29th. I'm just wondering as to whether any pubs are planning on having Entertainment whilst they take advantage of the increased trading hours, and how many of us have taken enquiries or actual bookings for this night. Anybody had any private Wedding Bookings on this day?
  3. First of all, take the PCB from out of the controller and look at the track side for popular faults like corrosion, dry joints and lifted tracks. Resolder, anything that looks dodgy. If that doesn't solve it, then its more than likey the adjustment pots (potentiometers) have failed or are full of dirt and dust. Why not just find out the value from the back of the device and whether they are Log or Lin types, and then fit replacements?. Its probably worth doing them both whilst you've got it apart, as they will cost no more than about 90p each from Maplin, Rapid, RS or Farnell
  4. Usually for very good reason. Perhaps they have been involved with PM / EMAIL / POST spamming activities on this forum previously, or maybe they are constantly involved with publicy attacking DJU at every opportunity. Like most people, I don't voluntarily throw open the doors here and offer free advertising to (nor indulge) the types of individuals who choose to make a regular practice of openly urinating down my back at every possible opportunity. These filters also contain the url's of commercial entities here who abuse the facilities and goodwill and seem to think that the forum is just a c
  5. I'd be very careful of the definition of 'reasonable force' in this country, which tends to always favour the perpetrators rather than the victims. Case in point. A friend of mine was woken at 3.30AM one freezing cold morning to the sounds of somebody downstairs trying his doors and windows. Being a fan of Crimewatch he knew that he could be facing either one person, or three big blokes with pick axe handles and knives. He dialled 999. 15 minutes later, the Police still hadn't arrived. So upon the ante suddenly being raised when he heard the person or persons crawling through a back
  6. If another pair of speakers work fine on the same amp, then it pretty much rules out an amplifier problem. What make and model of amplifier is it?. I'm a bit confused as to why you seem to be plugging in both speakers into the same channel?. Is it a mono amplifer or is it running in bridge mode?. In a 2 channel set up, both of the speakers would be plugged into different channels and the other speaker would normally unaffected by a problem with the other channel (unless a major fault occured). If you are running an amp in bridge mode, then also make sure that the speakers are connected t
  7. Looking back, it actually reminded me just how advanced Citronic were with their products, after all they were using Faders, instead of the old rotary controls still evident with some other manufacturers. 50 Watt Slave Amps, 100w Powered Decks, 150W Bass Bins. How on earth did they manage to fill even a medium sized venue. These days we recommend DJ's start off with at least 300W or 500W per channel. Guests must have had much better hearing back then

  9. I'm a little very confused as you chose to quote a huge chunk of my post prior to writing your reply, and I'm not sure which part of it, you are disagreeing with?. I would hope that whatever market we were in, whatever we chose to charge, and however we chose to run our businesses, that we could all at least agree on one small thing, and that one thing, is that there is never an excuse to be rude about our clients, either to their face, or discussing them openly online. Which was the entire fabric of my earlier post. Whether A DJ charges £40 or £400, I can't imagine one occasion wher

  11. You could always add your location to your profile, and advertise your roadie requirements, either in your signature on on a post. Both of which may help to fill the vacancy
  12. No idea. Have you found out how much they actually charge, as well as how much it would effectively cost for you to set up in this business and offer an exact like-for-like service?. Don't just look at the obvious costs like buying the lights, also look at the extra book-keeping, invoicing, paperwork, buying different lengths of link cables to suit different sizes of venues and marquees, spares, maintenance, insurance etc etc. Then work out how soon you want to pay back this outlay as well as making a bit of profit along the way for your efforts. Only then when you have this informat
  13. On one hand its actually quite inspiring and heartwarming to see people leaping to the defence of the industries' reputation and protecting and preserving their own ability to make a living from it - I thought those days were over . However I also have to try and strike a reasonable and fair balance, as the T&C's exist here to protect everybody in all circumstances, bearing in mind throughout that there are two sides to every story. This is ultimately an advice forum its not consumer direct nor a place to fabricate witchhunts or start standing judge and jury over our peers. If the f
  14. Yep, I think that goes for the majority of us.
  15. I understand why you've felt compelled to make this post, and i'm sure others here will feel exactly the same way, but to be fair we don't really know this as a fact until the OP comes back and replies do we?. The OP refers to a 'DJ' in his post, no names, and nothing to suggest at this stage that its him. The agent could easily have been using him as a scapegoat or have not even told him about the booking, and now be involving him in formulating an eleventh hour cover story in order to cover themselves. If this is the case, then the OP would be best advised to refuse to be drawn into it, and
  16. I can't hear anything, ARGHHHHHHHHHH its Paul Kaye all over again :joe: I wouldn't admit that if I were you, it only serves as a reminder to you, that you are closer to being a pensioner than a teenager.
  17. I've moved this to a more relevant section as its essentially a private dispute between two businesses. Not 100% sure on exactly what question you are asking, and what, if any advice you are seeking in response. I assume that you are looking to recover a fee (or fee's), which you still believe you are entitled to, from the business / agent who booked you?. If my assumption is correct, then Please scan in a copy of your contract with the company in question (removing signatures and any personally identifiable information from both parties and any client), upload it to a free imag
  18. Everything is overpriced in the UK, especially Disco Equipment. For example, the QSC K12's which I was interested in some months ago are only £516 each in the U.S http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6162...2_Way_1000.html and occasionally cheaper if you shop around. Compared to £740 each from Thomann and various UK high street dealers. I suspect that due to so many DJ's and Entertainers going out of business and the subsequent glut of second hand equipment appearing as a result, that DJ's simply aren't buying new equipment in the quantities they used to. Only yesterday w
  19. I'm fortune enough to have a diesel 4x4 that will run fine and legally on Veg oil, so its something i'll need to consider again in the future although in winter it will only run 60% veg to 40% diesel, but it will help when the price smashes the £1.40 / litre barrier. Of course, one way of getting the economy back on track would be to remove ourselves from Europe and the burden of the £38,000,000 'handout' which we pay to them every day. But then again, those in power have never really been good at seeing and doing the obvious
  20. A good detailed intro - welcome along.
  21. Rob, I know exactly what you mean, and i've come across this attitude several times, however its just an opinion held by some DJ's, its not the holy grail. Besides, attacking and belittling others is often an open sign of insecurity in their own profession, in that they have to step on others in order to boost their own selfworth. Just like in any industry, some DJ's are decent down to earth people, others are back stabbing big headed drama queens who always want to be at the front of the stage in the lead role. Some DJ's will say that unless you use a certain type of equipment, then you
  22. How is the pub type market at the moment?. Is Karaoke suffering as much as private functions are in some areas?. I think in my own experience, that Weddings have been the hardest hit over the last 12 - 16 months I don't think there should be any kind of class system in this industry - it is divided enough as it is. Whatever market you pitch too, and whatever you charge and the type of clients you entertain, its still hard work, requires skill and dedication and we all have difficult gigs to deal with, not to mention difficult / fickle clients and audiences. Whatever we c
  23. Anybody had any experience of the FBT Promaxx 12A Active Speakers Active Cabs offering 900W RMS (600W LF + 300W HF) and seem to be currently offered at quite a good price - (£631.00 each) for a good brand, active speaker in the 700W - 1000W bracket. They only weigh 15kg each as well :dukesy:
