  1. QUOTE (kazzachi @ Jan 16 2004, 09:25 AM) All I can add is that Gary and Chris have many, many years experience... Gary especially knows his onions here. I have found over the last few years, with the onslaught of bedroom djs, there are now many outlets selling equipment who cannot distinguish the needs of a bedroom dj to that of a professional mobile dj. More often than not, the staff in these outlets are working on commission and wouldnt know an ohm from a broom handle! Advise on the forum is free and impartial - and is gained from years of experience. I know whose advice I would trus
  2. QUOTE (Chris_Pointon @ Jan 1 2004, 01:25 PM) This has been discussed several times before http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/nono.gif . If you have 150W loudspeakers you will only get 150W from them, regardless of whether your amp is 150W or 1000W. This is really bizarre logic, the speakers (even 150W RMS rated ones) will certainly get louder if you push more power into them. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif They should safely handle peaks up to their peak rating, whatever that may be, without failing. Just don't keep the average level higher than their cont
  3. QUOTE (Chris_Pointon @ Jan 1 2004, 04:59 PM) It's also worth considering that sound levels are linear and based on the complexities of the Human Ear. Buying a 300W amplifier doesn't mean that it will sound exactly twice as loud as a 150W amplifier http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif - the human ear simply doesn't work that way. Sound levels aren't linear they're logarithmic. If you double the driving power (and units can still handle it) then output increases by 10*log(2)=3.01dB 3dB is a doubling of power but not volume. A 10dB increase is generally considered to be a do
  4. QUOTE (Ian Stuart @ Dec 16 2003, 10:30 AM) I very much like the idea of a session in Blackpool for the Northern contingent ! cheers http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/beer.gif Ian Stuart Well, going to back to earlier in the thread, what about getting together somewhere that we can all take turns on the decks... have some sharing of skills, techniques, demos, music? Not in the context of a live venue but an informal hands-on and have a drink at the same time kinda thing?
  5. QUOTE (Chris_Pointon @ Dec 15 2003, 07:08 PM) Okay so thats... 4 Northerners 1 Scotsman 1 N.West Coast 1 Shropshire ....and a partridge in a pear tree! Not even enough for a Football Team! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/014.gif Unless there are any more out there, lurking around this forum in the Shadows?? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif Ahh don't like football myself http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif Speaking of partridges in pear trees, to keep on topic did anyone hear Radio One's 12 days of Xmas... on the second day,
  6. QUOTE (Ian Stuart @ Dec 15 2003, 04:23 PM) It's nice to have another person from "up north" on the Forum as it seems we're well and truly outnumbered by the southerners (although i have to admit i'm from the south originally) Hi Ian, Thanks for your reply, nice to hear from you! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/beer.gif Yes there don't appear to be that many of us from up north.. interested to hear from anyone else up here especially near Sheffield. Saying that I've only been here a couple of years so don't really know anyone in the scene http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/
  7. QUOTE (Loz @ Dec 11 2003, 04:45 PM) Why does my amp clip more when tha bass is turned up, does this mean I need bigger speakers or a bigger amp or is it the quality of my equipment. I am currently running four cabs rated at 350w each, one set is powered with a 600w warrior amp and the others are run by a 1500w peavey amp. Yes, this is occuring because you have run out of voltage, and the peaks in the signal are effectively clipped off. Are you running the amp with the input sensitivity too low? This drives the amp with a big voltage swing, which is good in some ways because you have a bet
  8. QUOTE (partychris @ Dec 10 2003, 02:36 PM)welcome, cant wait to see some pics..also i hope its a detached house if your planning all these parties ! maybe you could have guest dj nights and invite a few of us ! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif Hehe I wish it was a detached house, it's a semi though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif I'm sure it won't be too noisy though, I'm happy to play at a reasonable listening level. Will have to negotiate with next door when it comes to parties though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sterb188.gif T
  9. Surprisingly my girlfriend has been living with me for about 15 months, and she seems to like it! She likes the idea of having parties... if it's ever finished enough. She knew what I was like though first, so it was her choice http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/bash.gif She got to choose a Japanese-style chill out room for the spare bedroom, so it's give and take http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif
  10. I had a scary time with my DX1000 about 3 years ago, I was using it (the function room used an ancient hi-fi type amp) which I thought was the problem, after an hour or two the sound just faded out for several seconds. Tried turning off and on, and some messing about it came back to life. The same thing happened a number of times. Only ever happened with my DX1000 and this one amp though! Perhaps I was clipping the amp and it overheated or something, I'm not sure.
  11. Joined the forum yesterday so thought I'd better introduce myself! I'm Tom, 24, from Sheffield http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif I've always been into music and records from being about 3, so at about 16 I started using 'proper' DJ equipment to feed my fascination. I started out with some second-hand Soundlab DLP 3Rs, and a Phonic MRT-60 mixer, progressing later to Gemini PT2000s with Citronic Pro 10 mixer, then to a Behringer DX1000 mixer. From visiting such clubs as LAs in Hull, my home town, I always wanted to make the step up to owning a Cloud CXM mixer but at the time,
