  1. Haha We use our lego to prop the laptop up if cooling becomes a problem as we can then aim our fan air towards it a bit better, its also quite amazing what uses you can find for a small tub of lego! cup holders ring a bell lol Cyas Mike
  2. Hey Have to tottaly disagree with DJ Ajay, isnt it easier to flick a BUTTON on a DMX controller than to hunt for the plug in the dark for a lighting effect? then you also need to go find the plug again and replug in and then WAIT for it to run through its precheck cycle which a lot of lights have now (scanners, moonflowers). Also, you cant just unplug a strobe effect from a light as you suggested, almost all sound to light effects have some form of strobe, so you would just unplug all your lights? sure! Cyas Mike
  3. Hey Unusual gear we carry includes A box of mixed pins (for holding cables to walls) Large selection of tape (Gaffa, Carpet, Cello, Masking etc) Spare clothes (complete kit ex footwear) Furniture Polish + duster (some of these venues tables are dirty!) Glass cleaner (You never know, lol) Blacksacks (as above for blanking windows or hiding areas) Spare Mobile Phone (Old Nokia 3210 just in case) ToolKit extras (gear grease, spare stepper motor, 2 scanner mirrors, dont ask why) But the best of the lot has to be our mini collection of LEGO http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/

  5. Hey We are currently looking into linking our MP3 system in with a DMX system, we current have both running, MP3's off a 19" rack pc and a laptop and the DMX running through a laptop using a piece of homemade code in ADA. I have recently discovered that I can use a network connection to send the name of the MP3 being played, this can then be read by the DMX and adjust the lighting accordingly without any work needed! Obviously, this is probably classed as 'extreme' and 'un-needed' but I remember when I was a roady that people used to look at anything more than lightboxes and fuzz lights
  6. Hey Thanks for that, I was beginning to wonder if it was only me down the south east who has noticed that people love a nightclub like setup in terms of lighting, tbh they cant get enough of it! Oh and that snow machine was the best purchase ever, went down a storm in the pub, they couldnt get enough of it! But oh well no more doing gigs in that pub (cough look for my other post) Cyas Mike
  7. Hey QUOTE Andy (ADS) is about as far south as you can get (Torquay), Ah but ADS is the opposite side as Iam down Hastings end http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif I still stand by lighting down this way as it IS important, yes the music we play and the sound levels/quality are important but if I was to turn up with say 2x 50w minimoons I would get strange looks around here! Yet when I turn up with a bit more of a rig people DO notice and comment, although I cant comment on anywhere out of my radius, haha New groups/bands/djs do seem to be using more and more covers but
  8. Hey Thanks for the advice, this post was made more out of frustration than it was anything else, I did spend the night in the pub and my uncle paid for all the drinks although ADS's suggestion of popping down tescos would of worked better. Luckily ive got myself another NYE party for the pub down the road and after speaking to some of my clients they have been so appallaed at the way the pub treated me Ive actually had a boost of reputation as my name's been going round in the story, may be sympathy bookings but Iam lapping it up, haha Anyway, cheers guys for being here and did santa
  9. Hey This must really show the differences between the south east and up north (I think). As people have said before DJ'ing across the country seems to vary dramatically, for example lighting doesnt get noticed up north as much as it does down south. Hmm Cheers for the replys. Cyas Mike
  10. Hey The contract didnt exist this once as he was family, a friend, my uncle to be exact! My main worry comes from the fact that other memebers of the pub (landlady, accountant and 2 barstaff) are slagging me off without even knowing whats going on, I have allready had new years and a 18th birthday cancelled from this! Hmm oh well, off to find a new years ever replacement gig http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif All I need to do is STOP them making stuff up about the disco when its their problem that they dont want to pay, not mine! Cyas Mike
  11. Hey Ok long story but here goes, I was due to do a gig tonight for the local pub, 7 hours disco work up till midnight tonight and I quoted them £200. Anyway I went in today to see how things where and they suddenly said they didnt want the disco, I was like ok, and they said another DJ would do it for like £160 but wasnt available, so I said thats not my problem and that the price I quoted was final, seeing I quoted cheaper too seeing it was a friend! Anyway, not wantitng to go away empty handed I said I would drop to £150 just so I had something to do tonight but no lower, next thing I
  12. Hey Is it me or is this song becomming more and more popular? the last 6 xmas gigs alone have had loads of people requestng it! Even more so at some than the xmas songs themselfs http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif It wont be long and Ill be singing this in my head, argh! Anyone else seeing this or is it just me down this end of the country? Also what do you lot think about the song, personally I like it, really fast, catchy and well a nice lively dancey tune, keeps the peeps bobbing! Cyas Mike
  13. Hey Pretty much similar story this end too, lol top 3 songs for me have been 1. Fairytale of New York 2. Merry Christmas (Mr Shakin Stevens) 3. Bandaid (Original) Last gig is tomorrow (Firday 24th) and should go down a storm, wish me luck, haha Cyas Mike
  14. Hmm Reading through that was one of the funniest things Ive done, after lugging countless items of gear into a van after a long nights gig I would NEVER be able to stand on one leg without swaying! Also, doesnt smoke make your eyes a bit 'red' after a night out? The questions are tbh just too general and pointless, all I can see this doing is being the biggest pain in the 'butt' out! Come on police, do something USEFUL for once in your life (eg tracking stolen dj gear!) Cyas Mike
  15. Ah damn Iam still a long way off, Ill go sit in the corner and cry http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/014.gif Well done man Cyas Mike
