  1. Very neat Brian! I could do with something like that myself for back up - like you I currently carry CD walkmans & and an old mixer. I have a 3U Rok sak (a similar thing) myself and found it hard wearing, except after a few years the zips started to go. They still work, but are hard to yank past a couple of stubborn bits, plus one of the tabs broke off. Mine also has a shoulder strap. Very useful for slinging it over the shoulder, leaving two hands free to carry other stuff. I can see this new "spare" console opening up a new add on:- The Wedding "Keep The Childre
  2. Does this mean it scans the files and calculates the BPM, ten enters it in to the tag? Even on wav files? If so, this is a great addition!
  3. A belated welcome to the forum from me too. It sounds like you are going to be a great contributor!
  4. I've been too busy to visit the forum recently, but though I would let you alll know about the gig. Getting their wasn't easy due to various train cancellations on the day, so we eventually arrived around 9.15pm, having missed the support, but in time for Ms Brown. I have always found the sound at the Jazz Cafe to be less than perfect. This time the problem was her vocals being to low in the mix much of the time. The sound man seemed to be limited in how high he could get the mic volume, by feedback from her monitor speakers plus she had a habit of singing in to the side of the
  5. For anyone going tomorrow, here are the times: 7pm Doors open 9pm Performance starts 10.30-11pm Performance ends
  6. Excellent! Thank's for your help everyone - particularly Eskie. Much appreciated.
  7. Excellent! Just what I want. Now, does anyone what to buy some good condition (non LED) chrome PAR 56 cans with lamps?
  8. Great. Thanks for your help everyone.
  9. But can you set them to stay on a single colour of your choice (even if it is only Red, Green or Blue) and not cycle?
  10. I normally mix my background music from individual tracks. Starting mellow, but slowly taking things up, to slowly get people more in the mood for when the disco starts proper. Going digital (Denon DN-HD2500 or similar at some point this year) will allow me to program several playlists that do the same.
  11. Hi Pareshj, Does that enable one to set them to a stationary colour/brightness, so that they can be used as remote uplighters without any DMX connection? Can you provide a link to the correct ones on the Thomann site?
  12. A great tune. I must admit that I haven't played it for a year or two, so must dig it out again.
  13. :welcome: and thanks for the great intro!
  14. It's great to have another lady on board! :welcome:
  15. I've played it at every 18th/21st this year, but I've really never stopped playing it since it first came out. It fits well in to any house set for the right crowd and is the kind of track that people will dance to even if the've never heard it before. But I'm still playing my original CD single 2001 - I don't have the new version yet. I hope it will get the success it deserves this time around.
  16. That's exactly my plan for Saturday morning. And your musical help was greatly appreciated. Paula Rocks!!! :thanks:
  17. OK, a change of continent (from the East End): I have a wedding in July which will have a few Mexicans present. Obvious choices are Shakira, Enrique Inglesias, Carlos Santana, Los Lobos, and anything sort of Latin (I have a few Latin albums), but does anyone here actually have experience of playing to Mexican guests? Or can offer any advice? I'll probably only need a few songs as they've already supplied a list of over 120 songs :wall: although it's a great list (as well as all the normal wedding favorites and cheese it contains lots of 80's soul & funk, 70's disco and a fe
  18. Thanks for the replies. We yes, and I have a crappy bargain bin CD called Cockney Favorites which contains covers of some songs, but has some obvious songs missing. (I do also have Chas & Dave, but won't be able to play them.) But I was looking to use the in depth expertise of many of the members here as I only have the same general knowledge of Cockney music that 99% percent of the general public have. It certainly isn't an area that I am an expert on, but others here will be. And that is what this forum is all about. Thanks Silver, this is the kind of suggestion I was
  19. As mentioned, Northern Soul is very specialist, and unless you have a number of Northern Soul fans, it may kill the dance floor, unless programed in correctly. If I'm asked for Northern Soul, I will normally precede it with some well known Motown, then push towards the Northern Soul end of Motown/Soul (Norfolk DJ has given some given some great examples of tracks to precede a Northern Soul set with) before then playing some specifically requested Northern Soul tracks. (Northern Soul fans can be very particular - tracks I choose may not be to their liking, so I'll ask them for specific tra
  20. I have a wedding in July who had just asked if I can have plenty of "Cockney music". I have a few tracks I could use, and have asked for them to provide a song list. But can anyone here come up with some suggestions of a couple of CD's that I could buy, or any specific artists/tracks to keep me out of Barney Rubble?
  21. AA here. As far as I know, no one will. This is one of the reasons to leave plenty of excess time for your journey. Also have a back up plan in place. Do you have a mate of other half you could call to help you still get to the gig - even if it means leaving half the gear in the van (at a pinch you could get by with no subs and half the lights - better than not getting there at all). Or if you don't know anyone, do any of the local taxi companies run a large people carrier that they could fold all the seats down in the back to carry gear (and is it available at short
  22. Me included, but music today (especially R&B) has much more bass than 20 years ago, and needs more power on the bass just to achieve the same volume. Also today's younger audience have much higher expectations about volume and bass that the average customer 20 years ago. As others have mentioned, it is the bass part of Phil's rig that appears underpowered. And due to the Marquee and audience, he will need more bass power than at a normal event. Therefore, given his limited budget, I would suggest only hiring subs + amp to drive (+ crossover if he doesn't already have one). - Not to
  23. I see conflicting advice here. Some say you need more power (which I agree with, for that age group) whilst others say you don't want it to be too loud because of the parents and neighbours. But if you take a sound system capable of producing the sound level and bass that the 18 years often want, you don't have to run it at full volume - that's what the master gain control is for. You would use your experience, judgement, and guest feedback to choose the best volume, as you would at any gig. Personally, I would prefer to have a sound system capable of the volumes they may want runnin
  24. I use 20 year old Bose 802's. They still sound as good as the day I brought them.
  25. Yes, I would also say just hire in some large bass bins (+ amp) just for this event. (And use your existing tops.) As mentioned above, in a marquee you will need much more bass power as there are no solid walls to reflect the bass back into the room. Also 18 year olds are going to expect much more bass that more general events. So you will need much more bass power for this event, but probably not for the majority of your functions - so it doesnt make sense to buy.
