  1. Hello, I am now available for NYE. I have left it this late as we have just had a baby. I am a member of NADJ and therefore have PAT and PLI (£10 Million) MERRY CHRISTMAS! :-). Mike Wilson 01359 252012 or 07970 479628
  2. There is lots of good advice above which I am sure will help you. I would agree with the fact that it is your lighting that needs some money spending on it before you look at multiple sets of speakers. I also agree with the fact that weddings are best not undertaken at the start, see if you can get yourself a night or two at a local pub and/or shadow another local dj for a couple of nights. Finally, I notice on your website that you seem to have only listed a mobile number. Giving customers the option of a landline is often advisable. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
  3. Chris, A couple of tips that often help me out are as follows: Make some request slips and staple a few together. Distribute them around the pub along with a cheap pencil with each one (Tesco do very cheap 'value' ones). Include your company/dj name and your mobile number on each slip, I even invite people to text requests. By doing this, you get a feel for the tastes of the crowd and also get your number in peoples head/mobile phone. When you play songs, look around the room and observe the reaction to each one. Even if people are not dancing, you will often catch them tapp

  5. Cheers for that. Found plenty of info. Cheers. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/beer.gif
  6. Have just accepted a gig at the local nightclub to do an under 18's party. I have little experience with this age group (13-17) and would like any suggestions for making the night go with a swing. Cheers. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  7. Happy New Year to you all! My gig was a last minute job, passed on through the forum, which I appreciated. All went pretty well except for a group of pensioners sitting directly in front of the speakers who kept complaining about the noise!? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif I will endeavor in the future to pass on any gigs I can't do to forum members, it's a great way of helping each other out. Have a great New Year! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  8. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif I'm really pleased that my first post has sparked interest. Everything I have read from you all makes sense and I appreciate the input. I really like the sound of a DJ specific PC over MP3 CD players/harddrive CD players and feel that now the only two factors to consider are the spec of the primary machine plus the spec/form of my back up. I like ADS Entertainments idea of using a laptop, which is normally used for other work, in a back up role. Will endeavor to report on anything I discover over the next few weeks. http://www.dj-fo
  9. As I said when I introduced myself, I am doing lots of research at the moment into what gear to invest in. I am particulaly interested in using MP3. Does anyone have any thoughts on the following:- Using a standard twin CD player and mixer but in addition to this having a rack mountable PC running OTS (possibly in the same flight case). Although this would require a separate TFT monitor/keyboard, it would seem that this would still be a very neat, useable, reliable and, unlike a laptop, easily upgradable system. Perhaps someone has done this or would know someone who has? http://ww
  10. Hello All http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif , Just a quick note to introduce myself. My name is MikeW and I am based in North Derbyshire. At the moment I am using the forum to learn as much as possible about mobile dj work and the in's and out's of all the equipment availible. I am probably going to go with some sort of Laptop based system but not sure about which hard/software to go with. Will try to post anything useful I find out. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/hug.gif .
