  1. Ben - maybe you do worry a bit too much. Relax. As long as you have backup gear, full details for the gig, allow plenty of time for travel/setting-up etc and have requests asked for in advance, then you have yourself pretty much covered. Yes - the actual event itself can be a challenge, but put in effort and relax and all should be OK.
  2. Excellent. Just goes to show that the Internet and PCs still have a long way to go as not many could handle this footage. Bandwidth limits too. Pah.
  3. Beer sales down? Oh well....an excuse for me to drink more. I agree.
  4. No change to normal discos except: * Cheaper rate (maybe!) * If I am not driving I will have a drink or 2 * May leave a CD on (one that segues though) during the food so I can talk with others or whatever (I have done that before)
  5. Not that bad. I do a lot of children's discos...although not so much recently. Only big problem I've had with gear was a CD player tray being broken. Search for the tech post from around last year and you will see the details.
  6. And I indeed have one similar to the above in my top room: HMV Radiogram made in 1970 http://www.otronics.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gram.jpg
  7. Prince - 1999 in 1999 for a 1999 disco! Although I didn't pay for it. First (compilation) album was Totally Wicked! First one I got was probably a Now Album or George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (2001 re-release) although would need to check.
  8. Equipment hire in Yeovil - set-up was Thursday night after day job Friday - out myself Saturday - collect hired gear after what looked like a good party + Burns night gig about 15 mins from here in the evening. Was good. Sunday - radio work in morning, spent the afternoon onwards sleeping (a bit), eating and wtahcing TV. Got my gear in from the vehicle (parked in garage overnight) though so my hall is now filled with stuff waiting to go up two flights of stairs.
  9. Gone down to #7 this week as suspected
  10. I must say that this is one of the best ideas I have heard for a very long time and keeps the Roadie active too. 10/10. Excellent. Depends. Generally, yes, but like anything, can break at any time. Crikey yes - of EVERYTHING. Yes, it takes longer to load/unload but to hell with it. People are paying money for entertainment and expect it. Easy, switch to one of my 3 backup sources. My main backup (CD player) is racked in and connected so would take 15 secs to load a CD and play it. My main CD player is very relaible but I may consider loading a CD in
  11. Basically: XP - easy to set up, generally OK. Linux - more stable but a bit of sod to get up and running if you don't know what you're doing.
  12. Got this sorted by buying a fair few CDs in the end, inc. going on eBay and getting Dirrty on CD single and a couple of Now Albums I didn't have (bargain). Also got some others on eBay + some brand new ones from Amazon and Asda.
  13. 'Issues' is #4 this week. Don't think it will get any higher now though..

    Depeche Mode

Excellent - 'Personal Jesus' is a cool, cool tune.
  15. Same as my lights - sports-style bag with wheels and pull-out handle.
  16. True..we'll see if either get to Number 1 ;-)
  17. Yeah, got 101 80s Hits a while back as it had some great tracks on but not these! Downloads...pah. Original CD quality for me but nice idea. Vinyl - if I converted them to CD I'd need the ProDub licence. Not getting that for a few tracks if ever! Nice idea again though and that did cross my mind. Getting there. Thanks.
  18. Fair enough that the other topic was locked. I would still welcome ideas on the below (if people have anymore). Please note that my original post did not say that I don't have these - have some on vinyl so want them on CD, and I had a CD with some of the newer ones on which I can't play as it's scratched too much (and out of print). Check facts - my music library is far from weak! Original post below: Need these, don't want to spend too much. Will probably have to get 2 or 3 CDs...Mastermix could be an option...some come close but not quite there...ideas on what CDs yo
