  1. Hi everyone. Its been quite a while since I made a post. Some of you might remember me, I wrote what was described as a novel on the introduce yourself page. I have just got back from djing a summer season in Kavos (which I would just like to add is a experience I will never forget) Since getting back I have moved from Anglesey to Warrington to start a four year course in Radio Production. Now Im here Im looking for dj work. Unfortunately I do not have my own equipment. I do have cd's, headphones, trusty SM58 and ten years experience. If its a big gig you are stuck for I do have access
  2. I always try and finish on a big one as well, this some times calms the "One More Cheers" or it can have the opposite effect. The big problem is if they got up and had a bop a little bit earlier then they would be happy to finish at the relevant time! One of my favourite one more tunes is Free-All Right Now. You finish your slowies give it goodnight godbless take care on the way home then drop in that guitar rift. On a good night this will work a treat. Then you have a nice gutiar solo bit three quaters of the way through the tune. I use this to re inforce they ain't getting any more and a
  3. When I worked for a sound and lighting company in Wales, we used to work on the principle of a fifty mile radious then 25p a mile extra. The milage was worked out nice and easily on route planner on the internet. I used to travel twice a week to Bar Med in Deansgate Manchester from Anglesey and drive back the same night and do a normal day job. Do be carefull if you suddenly find yourself travelling to a lot of gigs though. As it can take its toll on your body. About three years ago I had a epeleptic fit as I was gigging all the time and doing a day job. They stopped me driving for a year a
  4. If possible would like to do a vote on whats being used out there. Could be interesting. Please take the time to add what format your using as I would like to get a idea of what people are doing.
  5. As a part jock currently working in Greece, I am making my way through every game mentioned above and some I never think I would get away with in the uk. My favourite one at the moment is nice and simple and you can possibly get away with it in the uk. What I do is I brief everyone in the bar that as the next people walk in I stop the music everyone in the pub stands up in complete silence and points at the new customers. Then one second later everyone cheers and you re start the music. It can be a difficult game to pull off but when it works you get what I fondly call a Kodak Moment.
  6. Wow http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/drama2.gif What to do. I mean I guess your all saying a lap top is a no go area then as if you get caught, go to court and get a judge who didn't get his cornflakes that morning (or isn't getting enough horizontal tango action) then you can kiss your savings and lap top goodbye. Its not really very fair though is it. Its not like you haven't paid for the music, its just that you are playing it through a different format. This situation has never happened before I guess as tapes were never really a dj tool and record copying was never a great
  7. Glad you all liked my intro. Being in Kavos and only working four hours a day I have a fair bit of time on my hands so I thought what the hell!. Im working in a small bar in Kavos called "Pleasures" It used to be called the Black Duck. Its situated a little bit down from Showbar for those of you who have been to Kavos. I work between 9.30 and 1.30 EVERY night, and have done for the last eight weeks. Ive met a lot of great dj's out here and we tend to knock about together during the day, or afternoon anyway. I also do the lighting displays in the local night club called Futures between 2 an
  8. In Sepember Im considering buying a lap top and using it as a way of selecting tunes but not mixing them. I have seen a few dj's use PC DJ. Made by Lamba who make all the Kam and Stanton equipment. I like this as it comes with a control unit that looks the same as a normal dual cd player and you access the tracks through the jog wheel on the controller and then cue speed and sample like a normal cd player. I am familiar with mp3 formats and the sound quality range from 56k to 320k, I know I will need a seperate sound card to control this device. I don't want to look into too much more deta
  9. Simon D Introduction. As requested Im posting a little bit about myself and my job. Ive been invovled in the industry for ten years. Origionally started doing hospital radio but at the tender age of 15 was not really enthused by taking requests off old ladies for their favourite hym to be played on a Sunday. Started collecting glasses in a local pub with a function room which held open door disco's every Friday and Saturday night. Once I had seen what was possible to do with music and drunk people I was hooked. As I knew the dj and I turned out not to be the best glass collector in the
