  1. Hi This list is based on requests alone... Mcfly, All about you Tony Cristy, Amerillo Pussycat Dolls, don'tchya Gwenn Stefani, Holla back girl Will Smith, Switch Sugababes, Push the button Milo, Dr Pressure And, for kids parties only... Crazy Frog, Axel F Darren
  2. Hi Take a look at these. Definitely not a fly by night and they give you much more than hosting. Also, many of their customers support their forum so you can ask first hand anythigna bout the system. I wouldn't go back to regular webspace. Darren
  3. Hi Had a pair of 450's for about 4 years now and have only cut out once during that record breaking hot summer we had, was in a room where aircon had packed up so I wasn't at all surprised. If I'm going to be in a room where I know there's bad air circulation or it gets hot, I take a couple of office fans just in case. Darren
  4. Hi It's actually more straightforward than you think if you happy to shell out around £65 a year for the service. Check out my own site to see how it works. Just go through the process of getting a quote and making a booking. When you fill in your details, make sure it's clear to me that your just testing, example in the name field put DJ forum Test, etc. If you like how it works, let me know and I can help you set it up. Darren
  5. Hi again Pete, regarding your site... If you have a contact form on the site, you don't need to provide your email address. Providing an e-mail adress you're leaving yourself open to tons of junk mail from robots that take your address and send it back to their mother ship for later use. Darren
  6. Hi Pete Darren H here from Big Mix Entertainment. If you're son wants to contact me at any time regard website building and the like, feel free to pass on my details, they can be found on my company website. I am similar to your son, in that I have poor site, however I'm 100% blind. I built my own site myself too but wouldn't want to do it as a business. Darren
  7. Hi I think most DJs like lots of little toys to play with, however, at the end of the day, what does your basic, nost regular Wedding DJ need to put on a good show, and I'm talking in terms of reproducing the sound, no the music and performance itself. 1. speakers 2. Amplification 3. CD/Laptop/Minidisc/whatever he/she fancies. 4. Mixer 5. Mic 6. headphone We'll forget lights. Now I'm willing to guess that most DJs will only use the following functions on his/her CD player... Play, stop, pause, skip, queue, tempo/pitch, loop. Youdon't need anything else for a performance t
  8. Hi Regarding the Digital DJ Software companies keeping very quiet, why wouldn't they, I'd hazard a guess that most of them are non-UK based so what hapens here means nothing to them. I'm not up on the latest regulations in the US, Australia etc, but I bet DJs don't have these kind of crippling restrictions foisted upon them. I still find it odd that a pub landlord of general manager of a hotel will be expected to know the difference between a DJ using a laptop with music on it, and a DJ who simply uses the laptop to store an Excel or Access database of music. And will those DJs who
  9. Hi The problem with cancellations at short ntoice is you stand a very small chance of filling that date. Trying cancelling a holiday at the last minute and see if you get your money back, you won't unless you've taken out insurance against cancellation. I would refund the money if the cancellation was due to berievement or something like that, but just because they decided not to go ahead, sorry but that isn't my problem. Darren
  10. Hi Ok here's my ideal working week were I doing the DJ thing full time, and I'm working on it... Fridays and Saturdays set aside for private parties, Weddings etc. Mondays and Wednesdays pub quizzes Thursdays - A nice little residency anywhere! Knowing that I have my days to myself would be bliss. Darren
  11. Chris... Got your e-mail, don't give it another thought, enough said. All the best mate. Darren
  12. Hi Bt yahoo, £30 per month, 2.2mb. Worth every penny, been using them for a couple of years now and only been disconnected due to a fault once in that time. I know a ton of people that use the likes of AOL and Wannado and all have complained about conection speeds, disconnection probs etc. Might take another look at the end of the 12 months contract period. Darren
  13. Hi Here's a concept... Why not become that super mega starship enterprise disco, and get so good at targeting the market that can afford your services that you can work as often as you like. Gary, you read too much Douglas Adams, "impress the folks that put up stonehenge" So Long and Thanks for all the Fish. Darren
  14. Hi Or less dramatic, but still a pain... What if the booking was made in the Bride's name with her address, and after the Wedding she moved in with her hubby, or simpler still, they just moved addresses? Darren
  15. Hi So looking at the terms of the DD Licence from PPL, you can keep a database and a back-up but you can't perform with it, lol how pointless is that. I still think it's virtually uninforcable, especially if PPL are expecting venue managers to help them police it. Conversation goes something like this... Venue manager - Hi Mr DJ, is that a laptop? DJ - yeah. Venue manager - Ah, you need a licence to DJ with that laptop. DJ - Oh I'm not using the laptop to DJ, I just keep a record of the tracks I've got so I can find them quicker. Venue manger - Ah, that's ok then, hope
  16. Hi Fast forward 15 or 20 years, can you see David Beckham coming up with great lines like that? is it just me, or do most of today's footballers appear to be totally brain dead and fill up their conversations with "errrr" and "ya know" etc It must be like interviewing inmates at the local borstal. Darren
  17. Hi make sure you find a host that guarantees the success of your site. Ask them for written referrals from actual customers that are successful with their online endeavours. If you want me to put a quote together for you, feel free to drop me an e-mail from the contact page of www.bigmix.co.uk I don't want to put you off, but don't think just because you've got a web host, an html editor etc that you end result will be visited by anyone. If your site isn't on the first couple of pages of search engine results, it might as well not be there at all. It's not exactly a science, bu
  18. Hi Don't get too worked up with the numbers... Putting up a page listing the music youplay is all very well and good, but that page will be found by people looking for those songs, not a mobile DJ, untargetted traffic in other words. I'd sooner have 100 a months on my site all loking for a DJ rather than 500 but mostly looking for other unrelated stuff. To get an indication, it's the keywords and the referrals you should be studying to find out where your visits are coming from. Darren
  19. Hi ADS, you don't adapt your show according to your crowd? If I just stuck to what I know worked at my last gig, I'd have some real howlers. I can play something like Love Shack one night and the crowd bring the house down and the next night it could clear the floor. Apologies if I misinterpreted your comments. Darren Ps I'd thank them very much and make small talk with reference to the crowd, reaction etc, focussing on the night rather than my performance.
  20. Hi Whoever is doing the disco, they should always aim to give their best, whether there's a DJ there as a guest or not. I wouldn't necessarily agree that if a DJ makes a booboo or does a crappy job that no one will notice, otherwise why do we bother doing our best? However, yes I agree, you're a guest, not a Wedding coordinator. If you were asked to sort out a good DJ and arrange it all for them fair enough, but it's none of your concern really. Enjoy yourself Darren
  21. Hi DD Many thanks for the feedback, will prove most useful. Thanks for pointing out the Newsletter Subscribe issue, I'll look into that. Regarding the Music Library search, it doesn't cause anyproblems as the interactive tools are hosted on a third party server, I'm not even aware when people search, and they have to actually be a customer to build a playlist. If people take the time and trouble to do a few searches in the Library, then submit a quote, they already know I've got the type of music they're looking for, just one less element to sell. Regarding the photos, I'm looki
  22. Hi I just wanted to give you a quick heads-up... I use a small business site hosting, building and marketing system called SBI. I won't go into a long description about what they do, I could never do it justice with my own words. So why this post? Well, SBI customers have convinced the people that run and develop the system to make their online user manual available for all to see. This manual does more than just show you how to use the SBI system, it shows you how to best build a thriving online business, one step at a time. They make it very clear that it takes hard work
  23. Hi 3 for us, 2 for February, however the World Record attempt will be looming large so am not taking on too much if I can help it. will use this time to update marketting materials and find better ways of running the business. Also going to look at branching out into quiz nights for Sunday to Thursday to keep the bank manager happy. Darren
  24. Hi I don't think there's a tried and tested way to track those who wish to call back later, you just have to follow you gut feeling as objectively as possible. I've certainly got an inbuilt radar regarding whether someone's going to book. Darren
