  1. TOPIC MOVED Despite all the warnings on here...... I have a relly good relationship with a particular pub.As they like to go on after I have finished I was happy to leave a few tunes on and leave it behind for them. On Saturday morning I collected it and it was clear something was amiss. It wasnt superficially damaged but I coudnt get it to take a charge. The PC world diagnosis is that the power input has come from the mother board.£250. No lectures please. Before I dosh that sort of cash out do any of the computer boffins on here have a better soultion please?? Distressed
  2. One of the places I work has just had a Jukebox instlled.I accidentally unplugged it when I was setting up.When I plugged it again it was obvious it was a computer as it went through the same start routine as my laptop. Don't panic....I'm known for being behind the times.Isthat how most of them are now??I realise they don't go and grab a record like in the 60's.....but I thought they were still CDS.
  3. I hate that word Bassline. Youngsters use it when they are not sure what they want. "Hey Mister.....Have you get any Bassline" "40,000 songs on my computer....give me some artists and i'll search for some" "You know ummm errrr thingyyyyy" Now I know....thanks!!
  4. The senior members will know that we are due for a bit of willy waving now. I have 3 LED lights.....i've no idea what they are(bought them cheap)...I have a laser that I bought of EBAY. I do not hide behind fancy lights.... Got a diary full of bookings as well!!
  5. Have to admit.....my first question is always......WHERE???? Thats the most exciting bit. When I go to new places its very rare I don't get repeat business. In five years you could count on one hand the places I have only worked once. Alright.....maybe two hands and a few toes....but you know what I mean ??
  6. Some good points McArdle. As an addendum.....I am rather prone to marginal speeding tickets and other smaller traffic offences (lights, one way streets etc)....most of which occur when I am in unfamiliar territory. I couldn't imagine my life without my car.....
  7. Following on from Kevvyb's post.....Croydon/Manchester. My Sunday night residency lets me store my gear in the venue on the stage etc. I nick bits and that of it to go with my mobile set up.Because of that I like to work in a ten mile radius of my primary gear in case I have forgotten anything or a piece of equipment lets me down. Anyone else in the same situation??
  8. One gig I wouldn't take business cards too??
  9. Excellent!! We're all behind people with the right attitude. Not selling your gear and buying a moped then??
  10. OK Ray So the waters are a bit muddy with you. Most of us are not in a position to offer marquuees etc. Of your quote how much did you factor in for the DJ Services??
  11. Think it has potential....God only knows we need a new one!! My hairs going a similair colour to the fellers in the clip....must be the smoking ban??
  12. Its Ok chaps.....i've got a reactionary 15 year old too. So far he's wanted to be a professional Footballer,Golfer,Angler,Tennis Player, Moto Crosser and DJ. Was I really that age once??
  13. For your General Knowledge questions try...... wwwfreequiz4u....... He's got some really off the wall questions.... Been doing a Sunday Night Quiz Night for five years if you want any advice??
  14. I agree Bouncy. Instead of moaning about the lack of current Party Dances ....maybe we should try and embrace some of the older ones.Couldn't see us Party Dancing to Flo-Rida??
  15. So the Glowsticks worked then Ben??I use them a lot. I don't think its an issue that people can't see you loading CD's....Been converted for a year now and people are more impressed that I have upgraded than the other way.Sometimes at Karaoke nights I leave my Plasma TV that exhibiting the BPM programme that I have....and it creates an interest. We should all be aware tho.ENJOY NOW.Computerisation is the single biggest nail in the coffin that we face.As we speak there are hundreds of our customers switching thousands of songs from hard drive to hard drive to do our job in the fu
  16. Apologies.... Didnt realise there was already a thread on this.Should have known better. My trendsetting days are over.
  17. Kickback from my Butlins days. Been wanting to resurrect it for a while now.Last night.....Bingo.Some senior Ladies turned up and knew the steps.Got my partner to pick up the steps and will perfect by searching on U-Tube. It might work on some occasions for you too....we constantly moan about the lack of party dances other than the popular six. Although on U-Tube its all Daniel Boone....Beautiful Sunday it does work with other tunes. Trying to help......not really for the Club DJ's....but who knows LOL
  18. I'm sure a lot of us started similairly....some of us enjoyed it more whwn we fisrt started out like this. One thing I try never to do is answer or call on my mobile when I'm working. When you get up to 40 quid an hour there maybe someone viscious in the audience who drops you in it!!Thats assuming youre not charging 40 quid an hour already!! 15 and the futures bright... .I'd be a very rich man if I started at that age!!
  19. Got it now Dukesy. You need it to continue with the business that you have....Despite helping out the schools at a reduced rate I have never been asked for it! So I don't need it. Don't think I was goading....thought I was having a bit of fun...which seemed to be how McCardle took it.Leaving this thread now.....didn't mean to offend.
  20. OH NO.....Here we go!! Vibration White Ankle.....your Honour. He played The Cha Cha Slide so loud I had to do it....and now my ankles collapsing under the strain.
  21. McCardle.....No I didnt....its a long story. You know you and Dukesy are nice people but I think you are struggling with my challenge. As Dukesy is the Insurance Agent I suspect he'll be rushing to the Insurers asking for examples.
  22. I'm talking about possibilities...... McCardle....you are a big promoter of business insurance for our vehicles. So much so that I purchased a policy including it for mine. You see there is a chance I will run into someone with my gear in the car....I don't want the person I have run into or more importantly me to be inconvenienced by an oversight.Knowing how the insurance companies work I want to eliminate any opportunity the insurance people may have to wriggle out of a settlement. The nature of my act(??) involves getting children and adults up on stage with me......I watch them
  23. Googled it and nothing came up my friend. Lets assume no-one comes up with anything?? I make that 30 trillion hours without a claim. Now I'm a percentage player.I have a lean mean and hungry HOBBY(It must be a hobby as i've got a day job....see previous posts??) with no unnecessary overheads.....(see Netto). You are a nice guy and the agent for the insurance....sell me some!! When you've admitted defeat we'll move onto PAT Testing?
  24. One of the questions in the DJ FORUM interview is.....Has anybody ever tried to claim of you? How many of us have answered yes?? Also please post any links to articles where persons have been injured or killed as a direct result of faulty DJ equipment.....and the DJ has been held responsible. Lets broaden the scope .....in the last 50 YEARS in THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!
