  1. I have been out since last Thursday with a night off last Monday, must be honest and say it is catching up on me a bit now, done 1.9k miles now since Thursday 30 July, been to Ellsemere Port, Blackpool, London, Chester, Garstang, Durham and Birmingham so far and local this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Last night I did a Wedding in the local Ramada...what a dump that is...a good mop on the stage wouldn't go a miss, I had to get one of the old quilts that I use for packing in the van to kneel on when wiring up or I would have stuck to the floor The job itself went very well.
  2. As for WDJA supporting Pro Dub...Well it looks like Pro Dub is a fact of DJ life and here for now and as a responsable organisation with professional members we trust that our members are honest enough to ensure they are up to date with any licences/certificates that they should have. At the en of the day its up to the DJ and we would hope each DJ is acting responsably, however, it would be time consuming and a bit of an insult to check each DJ. I guess this is a whole different topic, but you did ask Personally I have mixed views and I don't actively support it although I do have a licence
  3. But Kev is Chinese that bad? I mean my Pioneer mixer is about 3-4 years old and for all I know it could be built in China. I know my Bose are built in China and my JBLs were built in China but I believe they went back to America for the DSP to be fitted, aren't A+H built in China now too? I would have thought it would depend on how much control the company has over the factory, i.e. do they have a person living out in China keeping a constant eye on production or do they just visit once a year or whatever...Dunno if its true or not but a Bose rep told me that they had an American quali
  4. Well colour was very important as the Note is really my Wife's its just there if ever I need to use it. And Guess what...my van is white, same old story when I bought it, if I wanted one straight away it was a case of I could have any colour as long as it was white...they couldn't even give me a delivery date for a different coloured one.
  5. Back in November we were looking for a new car and I wanted something a bit practical because although I have a nearly new Maxus van I wanted to have a car that would be able to carry a bit of kit to get me out of trouble if I ever needed it. Previously having owned a Fusion 1.4TDCI I wanted something a bit more well built and more refined. I looked at various little MPV type things from Skoda, Siat, VW, Nissan, Renault etc. the Roomster was in the running and we actually had one for a full day trial but at the en of the day they couldn't get the spec. and colour we wanted for a couple o
  6. I think your question 'how to sell yourself' says it all really. clients buy into you long before they buy into your service. The first few seconds of the call is the most important as most people have partly made their mind up very quickly. You need to break the ice, sometimes a funny is appropriate and sometimes not, you need to be able to know the right circumstances. If someone says they have already got a quote for £80 then they prob aren't your client but you can try to convert them anyway. Never ever put down the competition, far better to sell your posatives rather than rant on
  7. I voted up to £25, but on reflection its prob more. As a WDJA member I have a discounted subscription to CD Pool of £22.50 each month for Hits and Radio and I still buy the Nows just so as not to spoil the collection, this month I also bought the new MoS mash up 09 mix and then there is the odd 27p download. I do specialise mostly in Weddings and Corp that truely aren't usually as up front as some jobs, but I also do a regular pub and some student work which does demand that I am bang up to date...although the CD Pool discs do have it pretty well covered I do need to top up sometimes fro
  8. I would have thought that where your enquiries come from would depend on your particular marketting. I only get 2 or 3 phone enquiries per week but then again I just have a basic free advert in YP and TL. My web site is pretty rubbish and I get maybe 1 per week via that. The majority of my work comes from previous clients either via email or phone and I also have some venues that I do work for. If I am sweating on a specific date there are a couple of events companies and agencies that I can ring and I can usually get something for a specific date at short notice. By far the majority
  9. Very busy...Wedding in Elsmere Port on Fri, all day Wedding in Blackpool on Sat, Irish party in a local pub on Sun...I know the crowd and they're brilliant, corp in Stafford on Mon and Wedding in a local hotel on Tues. The week-end of 12 Sept is going to be my busiest so far this year...4 Weddings and a funerel sorry only joking, its 4 Weddings, a 21st, a afternoon kids and a big daytime outdoor event for Screw Fix.
  10. That's a shame, just thought you had a job coming up there and wanted to know what the place was like.
  11. I have a pair of Wizard extremes which are basically like your 1CEs but brighter so rather than buy a moonflower which would not stand up to the wizards unless it was a very expensive gas discharge one I went for a LED flood by way of a contrast and it does work very well...It only cost about £100 too. Another idea might be a cluster laser as you can point the bulk of it to the dancers, I have some Equinox Nebulars which I rate and I'm pretty sure I have seen them for under £200 recently.
  12. Barry White / My first my last... Killers / Mr Brightside Kings of Leon / Sex on fire B52s / Love shack Detroit Emeralds / Feel the need in me Van Morrison / Brown eyed girl Most Michael Jackson tracks at the moment. Most of the ones listed above are good for me too. Given the right crowd I do use a lot of up to date stuff, mostly Lady Ga Ga, Akon, Beyonce, Dizzy Rascal, Pussy cat dolls, Black IPs etc. With a good party crowd its got to be stuff like...Arrow / Hot hot hot...I have a big blow up limbo pole for that one, Sham Rocks / Tell me ma, Maver
  13. Never done it but when are you there Dan?...just wondered if by chance its this coming Sat 1 August as I am at the Hilton on the sea front and I am in Blackpool most of the afternoon and evening as I am doing music and PA in the church and then back-ground and MCing in the afternoon and party in the evening so if by chance you are there this Saturday I will have a bit of spare time at some point so it would be nice to meet up and say hello.
  14. The gladiators will go all over the room so I would say something concentrated on the dance floor area. A Twister4hp would go well with the gladiators and then you have a balance of light focused on the dancers and for the rest of the room. Or, a LED flood for the dance floor, its a nice contrast with colour washing over the dancers and gobos from the gladiators projecting elsewhere in the room. You could get some 1CE scanners but then all the lighting is random all round the room with nothing on the dance floor which is the important bit IMO. Personally I hate LED effects but think the fl
  15. I’m wondering what your most unusual job has ever been with regard to an awkward atmosphere…Mine was definitely this Monday just gone. Previously I have had a redundancy party when the local WH Smiths warehouse closed and made 90 redundant, a mixed wedding where one side of the room was definitely black and the other white, a Wedding where the groom wanted a table set for the dead relatives and a lesbian partnership where there was most noticeable disapproval from the older relations and the atmosphere could be cut with a knife - But… On Monday I did a graduation for 18 Army Nurses,
  16. Had to do a mix recently starting off with It Must be Love and then going into all sorts of daft things like You ready for this, Umpa Lumpa song, Twist again, You're the one that I want and so on and then back to It must be love to finish. The couple had been practicing a routine for ages un-be-known to everyone else and it did go down well.
  17. You're going back a bit there Kev, I have a D-mix1000 but haven't used it for years, mainly because its 8u and plugs in from underneath which makes it awkward to fit in consoles with modern equipment as you need clearence. I have all stereo lines for mine and also like the way the master module can fit anywhere unlike the PM90...I also have a couple of old Citronic mixers with seperate PSUs, a Hawaii Mk4 console in its original purple cardboard flight case with yellow lettering and an old NJD barn box style mixer amp..dunno why I keep them, guess its nostalgia and don't suppose they're ever g
  18. You could also try www.flightcasewarehouse.com or can't remember could be co.uk They too will do one offs and the quality is good. There is also Buster and various other ones you'll find if you google for custom flight cases.
  19. I have been asked for chasing cars a few times but don't particularly like playing it as when my Sister died suddenly a couple of years ago it was played at her funerel as it was her favourite song. Got Lionel Richie Stuck on you coming up soon too.
  20. I must admit in many years I have only ever had 2 mixer problems, one was a TUAC Voyager and TBH I can't remember what happened to it and the other was a cheapo thing called ETP and that was because I plugged a faulty BNC light into it and it took the PSU down. Generally mixers appear to be the thing we overlook when carrying back-up, when my ETP went down about 10 years ago I never had a spare and was at the Moat House in Hanley and my mate Denis came from Cheedle which is about 10 miles away with his spare for me to use...I reckon he broke a few speed limits on that night Needless to say
  21. Its certainly very popular but I'm not sure if I would say its my most requested first dance song. The week-end just gone I had 3 Weddings and they were...So in love with you / Al Green, Close / Westlife & Unbreakable / Westlife. Next week-end they are to be...Iris / Goo Goo Dolls, Madness / Must be Love & a Cold Play track that its name escapes me at the moment. Just had an email in for 31 October and that's Rule the World. TBH I honestly don't think I have ever had that as first dance but I have been aske to finish with it before now. Aerosmith was without a doubt th
  22. Jim, ring me if you are stuck, I have some active Yamaha 15s, American DJ mixer with some Stageline CD players, various bits of metal work and a pair of impossableds and other bits of lighting...no prob with bits and bobs like mics and headphones etc. If it gets you out of the **** you're welcome. Hope you get everything back in one piece and you then get to know their address so you can make sure they never are able to do it again
  23. I have been subscribing to CD Pool Hits & Radio now since mid December so have 15 discs = 300 tracks. I know exactly on what disc to find the majority of them but the odd track that doesn't get played much can cause a problem, especially when its busy. I want to rip these discs to a pen drive in order that it can live on my keys, I can top it up each time a new disc arrives and when I am out I can plug it into the powered USB hub on the Denon and find tracks quickly via the keyboard. I would like a pen drive that will hold about 3,000+ tracks in order that one will last at least 4 o
  24. I have never listened to the Tapco S8s, I have however, listened to the 12s, 18s and the Thump 15s and don't like them but admit they are good value. I don't use any speakers for monitoring but do have some various ones that I use for fill-in, speeches etc...guess its the same sort of cab really. I use RCF ART310s, DAS 8A and JBL wireless Control 1s...Think HTFR are still doing the wireless set for about £149...excellent for speeches for a small gathering, round the home and the odd house party.
  25. I have a DAP Soundmate 15 inch powered sub which also has 2 stereo outputs for a pair of full range speakers. It originally was the bass bin for a 3 box system but I do not have any full range speakers with this so it can be used as just a sub or you can match it up with some full range cabs of your own...I used to use some Celestion 10s with this to good effect. So...what you get is the bass bin which has a 15 inch dedicated bass driver with built in 300w amplifier, it also has 2 x 150w built in amplifiers for a pair of full range speakers. It has XLR ins and links and speakon outs for
