  1. A few simple words..."Don't shoot the messenger..." I was as surprised and :cense: off as the next DJ with this blatant attempt to lower my DJ 'ing fees. However, this WAS asked by a punter during me trying to provide a quote for an event. And one last thing...which I'm sure the vast majority of you will agree with! Sitting down 'DJ'ing (sic) in front of a laptop during a gig doesn't help... :!:
  2. Asked by a 'wouldbe' punter whether I used CD decks/Turntables or a Laptop? And the reason? The guy expected a discount if I was using a Laptop...I kid you not, although I do not use a laptop. Just good old Technics turntables/Numark CD players. ME thinks even Joe Public has sussed out just how easy a Laptop DJ stint can be? It's all that 'idiot proof' software!
  3. http://www.musicjesus.com/song_42992_Soulj...Soulja_Boy.html Music company hype...I'm afraid?
  4. "Heartbroken" will get most of you guys and girls out of jail, at this point in time, if asked for some 'Speed garage'...
  5. "Pretty Vacant" at Weddings goes down a treat...like a death at a birthday party no less! And my choice? "Anarchy in the UK"...
  6. The DMC club Christmas CD Comp' No 4 has Big Ben and a few versions of Auld Lang... + a version by Slade, which is my choice, but I will search for the Chas and Dave version. Also, have you noticed how C&D use an 'inbuilt' Media player on some of their CD's? The bloody spoil sports, who me? Copying tracks from CD's? Never... :dan+ju:
  7. Thanks for all the replies, the basis of the enquiry is to really get 'user' feedback on decent speakers (set-up's) at the requested budget level. As we're ALL fully aware? We all now can surf the web for the best deals (hence the closure of many Disco equipment shops - RIP, Discoland - Lewisham). What I'm looking for are personal reviews and equipment names, basically, I don't really need a third party to purchase the gear through - does anybody really use this method of buying still? I would deal direct with the company that build the speakers, or one of their approved dealers. So,
  8. Seldom would a school consider buying secondhand goods, unless they are covered by a decent warranty. The question is, why is the original school selling their P.A in the first place? I think 'new' kit is the only viable option for most schools. But thanks for the nod. Re.
  9. Hello Well, I guess the question has been asked on many occasions, however, could your guys/girls give me some advice on budget P.A speakers for school usage? First of all, they need to be sturdy and be able to withstand decent usage. The speakers need to weigh a reasonable amount, but not so much that the would be difficult to mount on speaker stand poles. They would need to have an average power (per speaker) of no lower than 300w, this allows for alternative use, such as school discos etc. Now, it would be nice to know that your local shop sells a great set up, however, it n
  10. Are you joking? You do that lark Sarrrffff of the river in London and you'll be in the Thames...according to my 11 year daughter...bless her little cotton socks (sic).
  11. I worked at a music major for several years doing the a/v work and I can confirm that early music CD's did turn 'gold' around the edges then begin to fail to play... The company bosses though it was a bonus as people would eventually have to repeat their purchases...greedy sods these music companies!
  12. I think you would find that the vast majority of well known dance DJ's would still use the 'good old vinyl' as their main source of music playing material? CD's are easier of course, but nothing matches the art of mixing two 12" records rather than letting a micro-chip help you along the way...cheats!! (Think Black Cab/Taxi compared with a Mini Cab).
  13. The mash-up you'll get via Hard to Find Records. The Masters At Work track was released in various acapella forms, although the one that is featured on this thread is'n't probably the one you need? A mate of Giles Peterson sent me over a 10" record promo with just the vocals on it...no music at all. Oh, it's not for sale, but good luck searching though! Regards.
  14. Why not have a 'Free before you pee' theme? You know, all the drinks are free at the bar until the first person uses the loo... All you need is one extra person to watch the loo doors...first to enter, then it's a pay bar. Although watching 'older' guests struggle Little Britain style :dan+ju: might be a worry...but slightly funny lol. Oh, the venue will be rammed when the party starts as well...wey hey!
  15. After 30+ years, is it really gone for good? I've been going there for years, well...since the very early 80's. If it has gone? That's a real shame.
