  2.

At the end of the Day, you can buy a £200 product from Thomann in Germany, and get a full 3 year warranty on it!. Buy a £2000 Bose System and just get the minimum required to be given under consumer law. Well, if Bose doesn't have the confidence in their product to be able to match the warranties offered on some cheaper products, then why exactly would I have the confidence in their product to invest in the purchase of it.

At least if you buy a pair of active speakers from Thomann, you'll get 3 years total peace of mind under their warranty, roughly the same period as my Bose has lasted without failing :ads:

Im pretty sure the drivers in the speakers have a five year guarantee. Have been known to be wrong though :msn-wink:

I've had the L1 model 2 for about 3 years now and it gets used weekly, sometimes twice a week at weddings, birthdays, pubs, you name it and I've done it. I can't speak highly enough of it, best piece of kit I've ever invested in.

I've had the L1 Compact (the one Nick is talking about in this thread) for a year and again it's simply awesome. I use it for children's parties, quizzes, barbeques, christenings, 90 year old birthday parties etc.

As always, we speak as we find, years ago I had an Alfa Romeo, it was the biggest heap of expensive junk I have ever had this misfortune to own. Now, I'm quite sure somebody on here will say "Hang about I've had Alfas for 20 years and they are fantastic".

We can only make considered opinions based on experience, mine with the Bose, to date as been a pleasure and something I have not regretted. (he says touching the desk!)

  3. Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson

Blanket on the ground - Billie Jo Spears

What I got in mind - Billie Jo Spears

Ruby don't take you love to town - Kenny Rogers

I love a rainy night - Eddie Rabbit

Country roads - John Denver ... Finished many a great night with this one

Always on my mind - Willie Nelson ... End of the night track

I walk the line - Johnny Cash

Ring of fire - Johnny Cash

    Crystal chandeliers - Charlie Pride

Jackson - Johnny cash & June Carter

    There's a few I play when the time is right (I hope :D )

  4. Well best £899 I have spent on kit. Got it Thursday and have done two school disco's an Adult party and a Radio outside broadcast.

It is fantastic any one thinking about a small speaker this is for you it is so light I can carry the bass unit the pole and my laptop into the venue all in one go. You could potentially plug your laptop into the inbuilt mixer and your mic and away you go.

For the OB it was fantastic because of the system we use (Matrix Comrex) we have a slight delay and are sometimes plagued by howl round so we have to have the PA quite low when on air. With this one L1 Compact we had loads of level very clear sound and zero howl round.

The L1 is for my wife to use as it is light and compact lol but I now want one of my own lol.

Any way if you can possibly stretch the budget do not hesitate if you want hifi sound in a small unit that is very portable then this baby is for you.

    Nik

Nik, your comments do not surprise me in the least, really glad you are happy with your investment. :D

I would suggest anybody thinking about Bose simply do a search on you tube for 'Bose Compact', especially by Cap capello there are loads of great scenes on there, such as ... Bose Compact. You can also trawl the Bose forum for feedback and great stories.

  5. I know it is quite hard to express this as the technology is different but what would you say the approximate RMS output of this unit would be matched to a conventional speaker.

    !!!UPDATE!!!

    Just brought one from here.

    Nik

Cool, I'm sure you'll never be disappointed with the outlay. I'll be looking for some gig reports from you Nik! :D

Ref the RMS output, no idea I'm afraid.

  6. Interesting - did you demo the bose compact against a single or a pair of the 310's? What swayed you towards the bose over the 310's? I may be on the lookout for some new speakers soon and I'm very open to auditioning something new.

I would say, in no particular order ...

1 Ease of set up, no stands simply take off the cover, put the extensions in (if needed), connect mic and/or say laptop, all done in 60 to 90 seconds.

2 Quality of sound, absolutely stunning, so clear.

3 The carry of the sound, check out you tube for Bose Compact clips especially those by a chap called Cap Capello and you'll be amazed at how far the sound carries. As I said in an earlier post I used it at a school sports day and you could hear everything beautifully from 300 yards plus away AND at 180 degrees either side of it. The volume was only at about 70% of max too.

I appreciate Bose seem to be a 'Marmite' product and some people have heard them many years ago and base their views on old Bose systems. The new ones are just great, I've got the L1's too that I use for discos and I can honestly say I have never had so many compliments on sound quality ... NEVER!

As I said just give them a sound check, if they are not for you then fine but you could be missing out on someting really good. :D

    Here's just one ...

  7. RCF 310a's

    These are fantastic speakers

They are good but sorry no way are they fantastic. They don't hold a candle against the Bose Compact and yes I have listened to them. I tried them speaker V speaker against the Bose Compact in a large room. It was in http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/st Poole. Okay so the Bose is £500 dearer but talk about money well spent. Within 2 minutes from walking a room I am set up!

  8. Cheers for the feedback so far guys.

I starting to think its probably a good idea. When I say small, im talking venues of 60/70 persons max. I may look at getting a little 12" sub to attenuate the low end.

As for Bose, I can't say i'm a massive fan, ive used it, and its been ok, but I find it relies heavily upon processing. I do prefer the natural sound of a solid birch ply cabinet. Just personal preference really.

    [/quot

Okay but have you heard the Compact live? If you have a supplier near you it would be well worth an hour or so having a listen.. If you don't like it then fine but you could be pleasantly surprised. As I always say ... You don't know till you know! :D

The Bose Compact is a completely different animal to the older Bose systems.

  9. Don't know what your budget is but I've got one of these ... Bose Compact It's a fantastic piece of kit, awesome sound, ideal for wedding speeches, children's parties, Bbq's, smaller parties, quizzes, back up speaker etc.

I recently used it at our 6 year old daughter's school sports day and summer fete. It blew people away with the quality of sound outside for such a small unit, compliments galore and a couple of bookings!

I use mine a lot. You simply plug it in, one input for a mic and different inputs for music. Plug an ipod in and you are up and running in literally two minutes! Outlay ........... I got mine for £850.

  10. I did start doing trying to do this for new entries that I purchased every week.

Also some of them are from the Now CD's...

And to this date I still need to retag the tracks!

However, my music collection is very organised, and i prefer searching for tracks through my computer as my folders are extremely organised. So whilst the tag may have numbers on and that the file name is ok :)

Hi Gary, I put all my downloads through this as soon as I download them, brilliant piece of software. http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

  11. Oh I see so for example "21:22 : 10-Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling(1).mp3" would be track 10 from the Album the END.

And "1:18 : 06-cheryl_cole-fight_for_this_love.mp3" Would be track 6 from the album 3 Words.

And "21:28 : 05-pixie_lott-boys_and_girls.mp3" would be track 5 from the album Turn it up.

    Is this what your saying?

    Nik

    Yes,

On the assumption the tracks came from those albums.

  12. Interesting play list. Can I ask why some of them have numbers at the side of them and underscore between each word when others do not? Is it how you catalogue your tunes?

    Nik

    Nik,

Nothing to do with cataloguing, it's how they are downloaded from some sites. The number indicates the track number on the album. http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-10097.gif

  13. I always use two tracks when 'sound testing' to give me clarity and thump! Paul Simon Diamonds on the soles of her shoes and Billy Idol White Wedding. On the Bose Paul Simon sounds sublime just so crystal clear and then Billy Idol gives it a right old banging! http://planetsmilies.net/music-smiley-1306.gif

  14. I do one quiz in a New Forest pub and get £85 and another nearer home for £80. I set all my own questions, normal music 'bits & pieces' round, a full colour laminated picture round, where there are faces, landmarks, album sleeves, anything really. The main quiz is 30 questions of general knowledge, sport, entertainment, history, geography etc.

I take a laptop plus a Bose compact and that is all, set up in less than 5 minutes!

  15. Nice tunes there ... I was a bit before that, more disco stuff. One track that I love but just doesn't cut the mustard on the floor is Crown Heights Affair's You gave me love. Belting track for me and probably ONLY me! http://planetsmilies.net/music-smiley-7528.gif

  16. Update now the gigs over. The bride was right the main family left at 5 o clock :( . I did a kiddies disco for 2 hours, and then she requested the harder stuff. There was only about 20 people left and 7 "little 'uns". I had a few dance/trance tracks on me (left some of my Prodigy at home due to her previous contact where she said "I could play to the crowd). So armed with a few mash ups, and some pendulum etc , they were very happy with the end result. The advantage of knowing very little about the genre, meant I (apparently) knew the greatest tunes. Although it wasn't "hard enough" for them, they appreciated what I done and enjoyed the evening. By the end I was out of music they really really liked (Which consisted of German Drum and Bass), and played a ibiza mix and went and talked to them (7 people left at this point) Learnt alot about raves and got some great recomendations musically (though forgotten most since they were German names I couldn't pronounce). . . .

Strangely they went downstairs (it was a hired room in a social club) and danced to the "cheese" on the jukebox at the very end.

Fascinating night and I really enjoyed it. Though I was shocked to find the Prodigy Vs Enya wasn't cool.

    Taxi for dj silver! http://planetsmilies.net/machine-smiley-5071.gif

Well done indeed, another lesson in the never ending learning curve in mobile disco land!

  17. Anyway back to the original post.

My daughter aged 26 went to a wedding two weeks ago and the dj was playing dance (90's) and trancey stuff. She said a few of the older, of which there was quite a lot there, were moaning about what he was playing and were definitely not enjoying themselves.

The strange thing is and what your bride needs to realise, is that people over the age of 40 want to have a good party and dance too!

  18. With that budget I would, without a doubt go for Bose. One L1 model 2 with 2 B2's (base units). If you can afford an extra £350 now or in the future then get a Tonematch (T1). This gives you a fantastic sound. That is the set up I use and it's easy to carry, simple and very quick to set up and beautiful to listen to.

My set up is what you see in my avatar, as I've suggested above.

I play right across the board everything from Vera Lynn to Prodigy, yes and sometimes at the same gig!

Now the problem with Bose is there is no sitting on the fence, no grey area, they're just like Marmite, love them or hate them. You HAVE to listen to them to decide. Be prepared for the Bose bashers to appear. http://planetsmilies.net/happy-smiley-614.gif

I've had mine about 18 months and can hand on heart say it was the best investment ever (disco wise). I get loads of compliments about the sound, loads!

Have a look here Bose you'll see loads of good advice.

I got my equipment from Absolute and for all of the above it cost about £2100.

I live in Wimborne and have a gig at a our local footy club this weekend, so if you fancy a listen then let me know. http://planetsmilies.net/music-smiley-1306.gif

PM me if you'd like a chat about them, I'm in all day from midday.
