Saturday ..yippeee off!! going to get a takeaway and a blu-ray and crisps and choc and some appleton rum and coke and chill
  3. still awaiting email response will keep you informed of the reply
  4. LOOK HERE I have seen this and it looks from the web page to fit my needs if its any good its small its light its cheap. The spec is not detailed enough and i have emailed them and am awaiting a reply is it 800watts total ie 400watts x 2 at 8 Ohms and is that RMS and is that both channels driven with THD low etc etc a wattage figure with no criteria doesnt mean much Any one had any experience of these or use one , heard one etc Thanks Rob
  5. Welcome to DJU Glad another karaoke host is here!
  6. I thought the light show was quite good . I think the problem of silences is an easy fix with even just hiring windows media player installed on a basic laptop. I can see this as a good way of setting a base price , hire of gear is x hire of gear with a experienced DJ is x most people will take the DJ option in my opinion. Dukesy your on about Silent discos where you hand out wireless headphones to the guests ?
  7. I think your out of order djshyboy. superstardeejay did give you a link to the information you require ..how was he to know you couldn't get the Chauvet web site? Norfolk replied after the correct information was given praising the light I do not own that light so wouldnt have know , the percentage of DJ's with that light that come on DJU is bound to be small. Your reaction In My personal Opinion is rude (and probably comes out of frustration )and the answer was found easily with google.. but i will help you http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/9915/helpdj.jpg
  8. Thanks for the reply Jas to be honest its not going to be a mega show just a small bunch of local guys in a basic function room and i wouldn't expect anyone to travel as far as you would have to. I was thinking a Tuesday night will probably suit more people even though its mid week and many will have work the next day but you don't have to stay late , Sunday is more likely to be a DJ work day (and I will be normally DJing on Sunday) but if there is more call for a Sunday i might consider that.
  9. Ok i am in the VERY early planning stages of organising a KJ/DJ meet up in Denton Manchester It will be on a week night in Feb 2011 it will have a bring and buy section , so some of us can clear out garages of stuff we will never use but will go to a good home I will try to get a retailer or manufacturer or two on board so hopefully the chance to be shown new gear on the market or to find out about new suppliers. There will be a bar ! and a buffet It will be a venue with easy parking and near the m60 for easy access There will be a small admission of say £3.00
  10. This is very true and Spinner i would never consider you , from your posts to be one that feels pub work is beneath them just as you say a different skill set . Its a easy cop out to dismiss something like pub work , karaoke etc but rather than saying its a different skill set and passing it on to a provider who does specialise in that area they (those specific type of function DJs) often put it down. I have found these are also the same type DJ's who refuse venues that don't suit there image. To customers that enquire about Karaoke they say oh no i never do "Crappyoke" and other derogato
  11. now when i get an enquiry i do ask both where they live or can be contacted and the venue but that is a situation i haven't come across to be honest anyway gotta go or i'll be late for tonights gig cya later guys
  12. If a customer emailed me back saying" i have budgeted 88.5% of your base fee" I would think they were very precise and analytical and slightly strange to be honest . That's not what happened. Thought that sounded funny if the emailed me our budget is £X and your base price is £x that would suggest they are interested but after a deal . That is what happened. guessed that was the case :dukesy: I would have gone to see them face to face and thrashed out a deal that worked for all of us, I really don't like doing deals without seeing the people involved, I can
  13. I have been refused entry into clubs because my face didn't fit or not got into restaurants etc and social snobbery is everywhere. I would refuse a venue if it had justifiable reasons to me for example unsafe plug sockets too aggressive sound-limiters with un workable levels , management that will not allow sufficient breakdown time etc. But i wouldn't just because of the image of a place that is snobbery in my opinion. but i get it the other way most of the venues i do work in most of the DJ's on forums and in person say they wont. Some Function DJ's with no work don't seem t
  14. Same as you politely decline and point them in the right direction I have no problem in saying thats not my area of expertise or market and passing them elsewhere to someone who can do a specialised job. some customers though have unrealistic expectations of service for a price and I don't wish to dump these type of customers onto other DJ's . I seriously have had enquiries for wedding DJ playing karaoke and indie music from 3 pm to 1 am for £50 as a mate would bring in singstar on his ps3 and connect it up to a "banging" stereo they had at home if i was more than £50.. yet the ven
  15. And almost as alarming who thought green walls would go with those carpet floor tiles? :funjokeandlaugh:

I would have gone to see them face to face and thrashed out a deal that worked for all of us, I really don't like doing deals without seeing the people involved, I can gauge if it is worth my while or if they are the type that strike a price but then want more for nothing and push it to the point of b
  17. worked Thursday, last night ,got pub gigs tonight and Sunday so 4 this week all low paid BUT got a confirmed booking for the highest paid job i will have ever done this week from my web site so pretty pleased
  18. Me too ...it was only when i was playing at a venue with two plasmas and a 100" projector that when i played a Classic karaoke music factory disc and i though oh that looks old and nasty but it was the best version of lovely bunch of coconuts i have! i have a few dark knight karaoke discs and the clip art graphics look so dated its unreal I tend to go towards zoom myself mastermix were interested in input and this was the first point that sprung to mind obviously the quality of the backing is more important but that is something i will also be looking at at a later date.
  19. says Jeremy Clarkson lol but yes it can work too
  20. I actually think a suit is a good idea. you are demonstrating and are the physical representation of a professional business tool. you are not demoing lights or sound kit so you shouldnt look like a roadie. I worked in sales and some times i was casual but mostly shirt and tie , this gave me more confidence and reinforced the quality of what i was selling. jewelers dont wear flip flops and shorts when selling million pound diamonds and i dont expect mc donalds front of house crew to wear white tuxedos either . I think a suit is the right attire for business plannin
  21. I have found more venues want you to pipe the karaoke graphics through the plasmas , projectors etc . So i feel that not so long ago this wasn't such a issue but now that your karaoke show can be on display so to speak it is something manufacturers should consider. Jason Your right about the graphics this is a actual cdg mock up shot i made a quick image in paint and imported it to a CDG making program i have , that actually allows you to make your own CDG versions and discs obviously manufacturers will have better gear than my software and computer i then played the file a
  22. http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/3659/cdgtitlescreens.jpg If you look at these title screens you can see that there is still room for design despite the format limitations , i feel the old red and blue music factory looks the most dated ..what do you guys think? I mocked up a mastermix one it is a 16 bit image so could be used , i have made my own karaoke tracks in the past using dart http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/4656/cdg2titlescreens.jpg
  23. hi guys and girls your opinion is wanted last night i met a really passionate guy from mastermix was there as some of you guys are aware they also make Karaoke discs with the music factory label. he said have you any comments about there discs as he is the sort of guy to take on board ideas I said that one point i find is the look style of the graphics is very basic and old , the blue background with red lyrics and that thin basic font is old looking compared to other brands. This got me thinking out of all the cdg brands which is your favourite looking grap
