Most don't care, but I've picked up 2 gigs in the past months when the client did query the make of speakers. One client was a sound engineer who was getting married and the other was a roadie. The trouble with a poor sounding system is that the client will not know until the gig is well under way. In effect you need to make the client aware that the equipment/speakers which you use are superior to other discos, giving a clear sound. An advantage, but about 75% of the people I speake to, don't care :damn:

I Went To An Ipod Wedding (as A Guest)
Norfolk DJ replied to milhouse's topic in D.J and Karaoke Chat
An interesting read. Really it would be interesting to know why the B&G went for this set up. It might be that they didn't like the resident DJ or they and their friends just fancied a DIY attempt which they saw as a bit of fun as they had total control of the music. It looks as if they were 'lucky' with the response as the function could have died by 9.30 otherwise. The actual lighting set-up is impressive for a DIY function, and would be reasoanbly expensive to hire. It sounds as if they forget to ask for a mic I can't see this catching on, as most peole don't want -
a surprise 30th for me on Saturday

A very busy type of light, which looks good in large venues

Personally I too would have negotiated a deal for gig if I had been the B&G. Lots of different options here, but it comes down to whether you are prepared to

Yep, it did seem odd, and there were other exclusions.

Buy a sub for the ocasional gig where you need it whether it's the SRM or RCF's.

Good advice

The reason why I ask is that some policies do exclude the entertainment industry.

My vehicle is now 3 years old and my breadown cover is about to end. Are we guys covered by the standard RAC/Grrenflag cover or do we require specialist cover?

I was a resident DJ in a hotel where they offered £1,000 wedding packages. The venue had rather poor in-house equipment, but they offered £160 per night and this was 3 years ago. Easy peasy for the dj although the punters were on occasions rough and ready.

I have owned both Mackie SRM 450's and RCF speakers. Mackies are good all round DJ active speakers and are built well. They must not be pushed too hard as they can be prone to overheating. They also hold their value well as long as they are in good condition. RCF are much better quality and I agree that the 312's would be a great buy.
-
I suspect the punter wouldn't notice but it is a selling point to a client who wants a high quality disco with the best sound system. Personally if I was not buying RCF's again I would settle for the 712's and save the extra cash as the improvement in the 722 is not worth the extra £500.

The FBT and RCF use better components. FBT use B&C drivers, which are the best in the world. RCF 422,722,725A 522 & 525A use a top 2 inch long range throw driver which delivers a fantastic sound.

I bought a pair of Philips 150w discharge lamps from ebay last year for £10 each and they are excellent

I did a wedding in a posh 5 star hotel on Friday evening. Nice people, but no requests beforehand or on the evening which was strange apart from the B&G's first dance. The remainder of the evening was spent trying the prise up people from the their seats and onto the dance floor which was hard work. :damn:

I asked for a £50 booking fees as opposed to a deposit as I understand there is a difference legally

Which Cd Mix Should I Buy? Urgent Advice Needed Please!
Norfolk DJ replied to markyb's topic in Buying Equipment
I would consider something else. A lot of issues with these CD Mix series for my liking. -
If you can still (and a big if) get hold of a pair of RCF 325a's for less than £1k they will blow away the JBL's. RCF are top quality high-end performers.
-
Indeed, but should be considered as they do fir the price range and are reasonably high performing 12 inch speakers compared to some. A true great buy. Difficult to buy real quality under £1k

Cheers Nik, just the job.
