  1. Had a wedding booked for April. Was told today that it is now "postponed" as the prospective Groom has been critically injured in Iraq and has undergone intensive neuro-surgery. - In view of the circumstances I have refunded their deposit. I hope the poor guy survives. -
  2. I don`t like playing extra time unless given plenty of notice. I tend to get out my last 30 to 40 minutes-worth of well tried & tested end-of-night tracks, and don`t like to deviate. This way I know I can leave them on a high. Trying to do another half-hour`s worth after my finale is a bit of a let-down. Also, during the last half hour I can begin sneakily packing away some gear http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/wink.gif
  3. When I take a booking I raise a Booking Form. This has to be signed and returned with a £20 deposit before I consider the booking confirmed. On the form is playing time (as required between xxpm and xxpm), and the rider "Extra time is chargeable pro rata" -- I am not strict on my finish time, if it`s been a good night and want "one more" then that`s what they get. Then I say "goodnight". I play no more unless the organiser comes across with the "readies".
  4. Yes, bands think DJs are pillocks and DJs think that bands are a damn nuisance. Trouble is, they`re both right and they`re both wrong. Depends on the individuals. I am a musician and singer who became involved in disco/karaoke about 3 years ago, purely by accident. As a gigging muso I always tried to work WITH any DJ I came across. It`s much easier to work something out between you than to fight over a bit of floor space. Regarding bands packing up while the disco is on, one reason could be travelling distance. I remember that as a band member it was not unusual to travel forty or fifty
  5. Good thread - plenty of good advice. Just a quickie here on Insurance. No matter how much you are insured for, if you are proved negligent your Insurance Company may not pay out. (So never say "sorry"). That`s why it is imperative to have your gear PAT once a year (as has already been pointed out). Depending on how far into the field of Entertainment you want to go, you could join Equity, as they include £2,000,000 of PLI as a standard benefit of membership. Also £150 "Back Stage Loss" - in case summat gets nicked! ------- When you start playing venues look to your own safety as well a
  6. Hiya Chris - good to see you`re still around and going strong. Long time no speak. -- Oh yes, introduce myself.. I`m OK. Nice to meet you all. TTFN http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
