  1. Thanks for the info , I'll try a few of these ideas and then get a new power supply if they fail :-) Hayd
  2. Thanks guys, now you mention it I seem to remember only noticing it with the power supply in. I 'll get a new one, is there a recommended one ? It#s for a Compaq Evo N1015v Cheers Hayd
  3. I have one of these double mushroom lights, had it for about 4 years , been through 4 pairs of bulbs in that time. The effect is fine as long as you don't want it on all night, just uses up expensive lamp hours. It does however give out a load of light, but in my opinion if you want a budget effect with these types of lamp go for the soundlab Valera, a much better effect; similar problems with lamp life but is a real room filler. If you can afford it though, go for a pair of ELC 250w effects, they will make your setup look quality rather than quantity. Hayd
  4. When I power -up my laptop I get noise on the outputs from my mixers ( even with the faders on zero. I also get it while moving the mouse about and opening and closing software. Sort of a quiet morse code like sound, I get if when using either soundcards on the laptop and any input to the mixer. When there's music playing you don't notice it, just when it's quiet. Any idea how to stop this and if it's the laptop , mixer( KAM GMX5 ) or cables ? Hayd
  5. Back on topic LOL Nice site overall, easy to navigate. Gallery really needs attention the pictures as said before are too small and while I like to see people having a good time at your parties I have no idea what your disco looks like or what equipment you have. Also in you FAQ's section you mention your technical requierments as ` Two sockets and a table for your cd's ` Dosn't really build up a very professional image if a booking condition is that they need to provide a table ? Surely you could take something around with you. Other than that looks good My two pennies worth LOL
  6. Transit , not a problem m8. The two outter screen connect together front to front and the center splits apart into 3 pieces :-) Thanks for the positive feedback Hayd Starmix Disco Website
  7. Also been using AVG for a couple of years, no problems at all , but remember all antivirus should be kept up to date, this is where most problems arrise ! update those virus definitions as often as possible.
  8. I have a KAM GMX 5 Mk2 , can't complain abount it really, nothing has ever gone wrong on it has enough inputs outputs and mic dipping. Nothing fancy but works ok for me can't really say that it's well built though, faders etc feel cheap and I'm not sure what sort of lifespan it's going to have. Having said that it's been going for a year done over 100 gigs so what more can you ask of £120 ! Hayd Starmix Disco Website
  9. I have the Mackie SWA 1501 (500w continuous output / 700w peak output ), it's the b*llocks when paired with the SRM 450 tops. You can lift it on your own and it even fits on the back seat of my car. Does come at a price though, expect to pay £700 - £800 for one but in my opinion was well worth it. Hayd Starmix Disco Website
  10. In mixmeister 4 ( which I use ) you don/t need the asterisks you would just type fish to get all songs with fish in. Really easy LOL http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif Hayd
  11. LOL , time to do some carpentry :-) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif Hayd
  12. My old light boxes will shortly be headed High Fidelity's way as he was first to e-mail me for them and prosound dosn't want to contact me. Spin will be pleased to know that lightboxes still have a great following judging by the number of people who wanted my old boxes. Can't resist a bargain us DJ types LOL http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif Hayd Starmix disco Webby
  13. Think you'll find the main UK distributor for ACME is prolight concepts ( could be wrong ) . I have 4 ACME winner scanners and they are great :-) Much better than the soundlab ones ( had a very bad experience of these which I won't bore you with ) Hayd
  14. Overall , nice site Vinnie as said before the Equipmentpage could do with a spruce up. Also I think the Kids party seems a little 'cold' Do you do party games, teach kids the party dances ' do prize give aways , foam / bubble machines etc etc ?? If you do know one will know and it's well worth mentioning ( if you want lots of kids parties that is ). Nice site though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif Hayd Starmix Disco Webby
  15. Hi Gazza , content wise it's really up to you. You want to promote all the types of service you do , areas you cover , some photos are usually good and some good blurb about yourself and experience. Try to avoid prices too much as it can put some off or your may get others thinking you'rs too cheap. Always include a 'call to arms' something like 'Call to book now on 794385485' something along those lines. Keep information clear and easy to access. Software wise , I use Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash for my site you could also use microsoft Frontpage , very straight forward to use and d

In my experience limiters are usually installed to passify the local residents, if you bypass them and don't play excessivly loud I can't see a problem. I've never had my sound set one off , it's always the crowd. All you need is a few kids shouting and you lights and sound are off in a second, how annoying is that. So in my opinion bypass if you can. Hayd Starmix Disco Website

  19. This week I have had to turn down 5 discos as I'm already booked those days, as always I get asked "could you recommend anyone ? " but really I don't know who to recommend. Are any of you guys in Norfolk ( South Norwich , Wymondham ) area ? If so can you e-mail me details of your disco so I can send some people your way ? Hayd Starmix Disco Website
  20. Thanks for your comments, my e-mail addy seems to be working fine though ( got one from you LOL ) cheers Hayd
  21. As Chris has stated and perhaps I should have said, do not use fairy liquid unless you want to void your warrenty and perhaps risk damaging your machine. The reason I tried it was that my local stockist ran out of snow fluid during my busy christmas period and told me that some people were turning to their bubble fluids and found they also worked. I ran out during a gig and thought to myself , why not try fairy, it worked fine , got me out of a fix ( room of 120 demanding children ) and no problems. So to recap, not recommended but it worked for me ! Hayd http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/
  22. Thanks Ninelives, New front consists of a podium style light unit ( 3 pieces ) with a console on the top containing, laptop , mixer , radio mic , twin cd etc and two matching light boxes. All are made of thin lightweight ply ( 6mm ) and lit with low power flurescent tubes. Fronts are a sandwich of perspex , a white nylon material ( to make them opaque ) , blue coloured gel and the stars are made of felt. I just have to make a new console to match base and podium next. My idea was to make the front a static colour so that the focus was the dmx lighting rather than the lightboxes. An
  23. I've been using a snow stream machine at childrens and adult parties for 7 months or so, never had a complaint although as with everything else , if you use too much the floor can get slippery. Also with foam most of it ends up on the people rather than the floor :-) As a sub topic, which foam do you guys recommend ? I've tried 3 so far , the source one ( official for snowstream ) seems too creamy and does in my experience cause the slickest floors; the Antari snow fluid which is fluffier and evaporates quickest and I've also tried making my own with good old fairy liquid which I find is
  24. If you want something to get you started, I have 5 lightboxes + bulgin cables and 3 channel controller. They need a coat of paint and a bit of cleaning up. Boxes are 3`x2`, 4`x3` and 2`x2`.If you want them you can have them for nothing. I live in Norfolk so really depends if you live fairly close by. Pic below: http://www.starmixdisco.co.uk/bbroom2.jpg If you want them pm or e-mail me :-) Hayd Starmix disco website http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  25. As said by Tonsk , it really depends what kind of gigs you are planning on doing. But if you want to keep things on a low budget then stick to sound - to -light fixtures as soon as you go for DMX units it's gonna cost you ££££ . My recommendation for a good budget effect is the Soundlab Valera , I have a couple of these and they really can fill a room with light on their own. 600 Watt cost £80 - £100 . Good luck Hayd Starmixdisco Website
