  1. Did end of summer ball last night, black tie job it was a brill night, floor full all night. Zoe played the first few tracks whilst people were still having coffee etc then we were away. Handed out loads of requests sheets and got most back. We played a wide variation of music from D12 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif to Dave Clark 5. Also played loads of 80's stuff. Home at 2AM http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sleep1.gif . Really good crowd. Now guitar practice then get some work done in the yard. Maybe one more coffee first.
  2. Friday have a end of summer ball http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/bigstar.gif at local restaurant, my first gig since end of june as I have been away on the fairgrounds most of the summer. Usually very mixed age group 18 - 80. Hand out the requests and go for it. I am letting my daughter Zoe do the first hour as she is learning the job so to speak. Saturday - Work on the fair generator. Sunday - day out at fair organ festival.
  3. I use a data base that I got as a web download called music database 2000 (MDB2000). It was a try before you buy and I bought it for about £30 at the time. I am more than happy with it, I have all my music logged and find it invaluable. It will also allow you to pull titles of albums from the net using gracenote.
  4. I would take 500 of these sticks. I have not used them before so it is a trial thing with me. I am sure that I can get rid of them on the fair next year if any are left. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/cool.gif
  5. Yes as Chris states Fairground Turbo Lights are very good I have fitted them in all my light screens and have not replaced a bulb in three years. The lamp, holder and coloured cap will cost about £1 and the bulbs are about 50p ish. If you use the 60 volt bulbs they will last a lot longer than the 240v lamps but you do need 4 in series so with a 4 channnel system you can only use in sets of 16 (4x4). I find that they also give a super crytal clear colour through the perspex and they never fade like paint. The best supplier is as per Chris,s link. I have some on one of our fun fair rides a
  6. Well said kazzachi & paula, Lee asked for advice and got slagged off. I started out knowing a lot about lighting and sound systems but learnt the job by listening to other DJ's and the reaction of the crowd. I started doing free gigs and parties until I got the knowledge to take on professional bookings. I was never lucky enough to be able to work with a DJ otherwise I would have done so. I now have regular work from kids parties to Rotary club functions and I am still prepared to learn and improve my service. I have three business intrests and still believe any paying customer is worth l

    Wedding Fayre

I did a wedding fair once just to provide the music as they had been let down. Go dressed to impress, take plenty of cards. make a note of any inquiry and offer to go and see the couple when you have more time to decide on what they want. make them feel extra special because they are ! I always go and see a couple who are booking me for a wedding because it is a special day for them and it is a lot better to meet them and know a bit about them. They are usually prepared to pay a good rate as it has to be done right. Have a good fair
  8. I Played Nutbush City limits, then after the chimes a Scotish party mix followed by Beatles Saw her Standing There. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
  9. I use fun fair lighting around the front of my stand and name board I have 64 x 60 watt small 60volt bulbs on a four channel chaser. I have put the same lamps in my light boxes to replace the pigmys. They are called Turbo or capped lights. I use four colours Red Orange Blue and Green and can take out any colours to suit the mood. The lamps are tough and cheap but you need to be able to solder and understand the circuits in order to use them. I have Abstact gladiators and NJD lamps up top. Also use sunray and terminators as and when needed. I try and turn a dreary village hall into somthing
  10. Yes I have two of everything, once had an amp go dead five minutes before start time. We had an old cambridge amp in the van which got me out of the http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif It was really cooking at the end but learnt me to be prepared. I have spares of all my sound equip even though only cheap stuff it's better than nothing. Also have spare leads and bulbs. Look on it as insurance.
  11. One that works well when you want to get out of Heavy rock and back into party stuff is status quo down down into mud's tiger feet slides together perfectly even I can do it http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/newyear.gif
  12. Just to introduce myself to your excellent forum. I have been DJ'ing since 1998 and am one of the older (no ancient) members. I have always loved playing music on our fun fair rides and wanted something to keep me earning a bit in the winter. My weakness in Motown and 70's but feel equally turned on by most Trance and Old Skool. I am getting to like the new R&B stuff probably due to the vast amount we play to the 12 - 18 year olds who simply love it. We still sneak in the odd oldie and that works well too. I do quite a lot of gigs for this age group but have a regular set in a local rest
