  1. My kind of DJ welcome aboard and thanks for joining :good:
  2. I had a client move the date of the event so we could do the Disco for them. Also at one of my regular venues, client who is emigrating says they are going to come back for the functions as he loves the variety of music we play. I know if I have done a good job without any compliments from customer, I think you just know. Trouble is when you feel that you could have done better it nags at you till the next gig.
  3. I have always asked for requests as it gives you contact with your audience, and as has been said, it gives you a clue as to what they like. Requests may not all be dancy, but there is usually a time during the evening when they can be played. If you work the mike properly you can get away with most stuff apart from some tracks that may offend in which case I would have forgotten to bring that particular track :damn: . If you are the type of DJ who just stands behind the deck's playing tunes (and I am not critisicing here) then requests may not work for you. Myself I like to gel with the cr

    Crazy Horses

Rubettes, How did he get those high notes What a great 70's tune, hot weather, new motorbike, I remember this tune been played to death on the fairgrounds along with Waterloo, Shang a Lang, Devil Gate Drive etc. Yeh' I know I must be sad, it's an age thing :aa
  5. I used to do loads of kids party's and must agree with exbutlinred82 the lights are not the thing that matter. The thing that gets you repeat bookings when the parents come to collect their kids is if all the kids are up on the floor and having fun. I used to put very little equipment in to kids party's but the kids went home worn out and happy. Loads of games, party dances and fun are the thing. I once saw a DJ doing a kids party with loads of gear and all he did was play music while the kids ran around scrapping and messing about. I decided that I had a choice, don't do kids parties or do
  6. I suppose that would be regarded as cheese in northern soul circles then :bouncy:
  7. No good to me I would not get this into any of my current venues. My rig all pulls down, packs in small van and ready to play music in half an hour without breaking sweat. The rig is also limited as it looks very big and would not suit a smaller venue as many of mine are. Also many doorways are narrow and what about steps or stairs :omg:
  8. Yes, when I did kids parties always did limbo, great fun, easy to make a couple of posts and a bamboo cane was all I used. Games are a must, stop the little :cense: from getting bored. Hope it goes well for you - Mick
  9. My van is sign painted and I always have my business vehicles done, However - I have recently found a slight problem with this regarding suprise parties, bit of a give away parked outside. I may not bother next time as I now have enough work without the advertising. Love the artwork on Elite disco van, very classy and not quite as much in your face as mine :aa
  10. Must DJ on a different planet to the rest of us lol.

    Duffy

Yes, heard it on the radio the other day, well I think she's brill, bit like Dusty Springfield, very soulfull.
  12. Very unprofessional way to discuss the DJ business on an online forum by making such a wide sweeping comment about fellow DJ's. I suspect that you are not a mobile DJ and if you want help in a field you obviously know little about you should maybe re-think about your comments.

    Liverpool 8

Do we take it that you don't like this track and won't be buying it then :hide:
  14. How very dare you :ads: Sorry, yes I know what you are on about really. I have just started using these cases and they are very good, I am thinking of putting all my cd's in these now. Well made and well thought out storage and lots of different styles.
  15. Yes, congratulations from me as well  My little girl is now 18 (see avatar) and it only seems yesterday that she was that size. Charlotte looks like she is going to be the centre of attention from now on - Well done both of you - Mick
  16. Really good move joining this forum, things can only get better now for you both, best of luck - Mick BTW I am another even older old F--T at 55 :omg:
  17. Used to butt don't like coloured print :ads:
  18. Yes, I reckon it would work with younger crowd/set. BTW which version do you use as there are about ten on i-tunes ?
  19. Spot on reply :amen: Newspapers are tommorows fish and chip paper (Well they were when I was a lad)

    Mastermix Cd's

I have the Grandmaster Classic Cuts Most Wanted 2 (Not Mixed) mostly really good old and unusual dance tracks and not predictable. A lot of inocent confusion and a tad of DJ snobbery about Mastermix. I agree good tools if used correctly - mick

    Mastermix Cd's

I don't think Swingcats is talking about mixed tracks, more the Pro Disc series which are not mixed. I use Pro Disc. If you are busy and can't wait for the Now albums they are OK topped up with the odd download or three that are usually missing from the album as was the Sugarbabes track refered to - Mick

    Cascada

I have used this track with a fair bit of success over Christmas.
  23. At one time I would have said no to the beatmatching/mixing thing however having read the article that Brian prepared for the BPM seminar I now try to choose tracks that blend together better. I have done a few quite decent mixes which do help to keep the dance floor moving. Having said this when playing 60's tracks it ads to the nostalgia with a bit of a break or dip between tracks. I think as has been said many times we are all different as DJ's. I would love sometime to go out to a gig with another DJ and watch his/her techiques from behind the decks as I am sure I am in a bit of a rut as f
