  1. I use Pro DJ to keep up to date combined with i-tunes which are good enough quality for me and far better than not having the track tongue out icon . Then I buy the now albums when they come out - simple as that
  2. Oh wow, some brill choices there and very hard to choose, I have played most of these at the end of a function and they all work well, but I am going for summer nights. I usually play this during the evening but what a wicked track to finish on so well done Swingcats (Chris ?) over to you mate :good:
  3. Another diary gripe, why is it you always get free diary's or is it diaries ? at Christmas or new year, months after you have bought one, I got three superb ones last year at christmas, mine was already half full by then - :damn:
  4. Right, OK, End of the evening and slow dances out of the way, I like to leave them singing and happy, just played The Monkees - Daydream believer as the last track then the client politely asks for just one more before we go - So what's it to be ...
  5. I am not sure about this, I used to do weddings and to be truthful the last thing the couple are worried about is track transitions. They are more worried about you turning up and playing music for everyone. And in the scheme of things it would be pretty sad if a couple embarking on a future life together put such things anywhere near the top of priorities. Maybe it's different down south Brian. I always used to meet up with the couple as Brian does and I can honestly say I have never been asked about my mixing skills. I wonder how many other DJ's are booked purely on their ability on the b
  6. I bought a pair of Alto PS4HA's a couple of years ago and I am very pleased with their performance and they have never given any bother. More or less identical to the Makies except the price. However Makies have come down in price since then but I still would not swop you for the Makies as the Alto's work fine for me.
  7. :bouncy: Love it, same with me (apart from the Red Coat bit). Back to the original thread, I have had a go, but my gear is only really up to simple mixing, (bit like me - lol), I have sneaked the odd well practised mix of two tunes with same bpm in the past but I dont think anybody other than me noticed :ads: . I don't think not mixing makes you a poor DJ as choice of tunes and knowing that old classic that everyone had forgotten about gets a lot bigger reaction, from personal experience. But as CS points out it must be good getting people to dance to a tune that would normally see them
  8. Cupid - Amy Winehouse vesion since younger age group are up on floor.
  9. One thing this thread prooves is that we are all as DJ's very different in the way we deal with clients and the playlist issue. Some DJ's will do exactly as the client asks almost to the extent of being like a jukebox and others are prepared only to do the gig if they can use their artistic flare to steer the function and offer only a limited playlist of say 20 tracks. I don't think that either method is wrong so long as the client is aware from the start in your T & C. It also seems that weddings are the big playlist type function, and as I do not do weddings maybe that is why I have ne
  10. As I said I would play the lot under these circumstances and No the client would never come before my reputation as I have worked too hard for that. Sometimes you have to say no to a booking, money isn't everything, if I was not happy doing the gig I would not take it on in the first place. Don't get me wrong there is nothing with playlists, I take requests all the time and small playlists but I would choose to pass on a very restrictive list for the reasons above. Maybe I'm wrong but too old to change now lol.
  11. I have gone for B although I only usually get small play lists due to the nature of work I do and would play the lot during the evening in this case. This is so true and as said before can harm the reputation of the DJ should 90% of the party goers not like the choice of tracks. I listened to a band the other night who were very good, playing all rock stuff, now I liked them as I have a wide love of music however they went down like a lead baloon with most of the people there who simply wanted to dance and most of the tracks would be hard to dance to. I would never be so presump
  12. If a measure of success is a gig where most people enjoy the music then I think yes I am successful, part of the skills of being a good DJ is to balance the genre of music so as to keep the party going. I am always happy to play the more unusual track even if it is only for a very small minority, it is knowing when to play it that is the hard bit. Some of the comments I have heard on this and other forums that put down DJ's who play the more expected songs are often from DJ's who work in a pub/club environment where there is less of an age variation and booze helps push the night along, and s
  13. I put it down to a lack of honesty and a bit of snobbery, any DJ worth his title will play Cheese (or for a better name well known popular music) if requested or needed to suit the crowd. My music collection is like my tool box. You can't always use the new shiny tools and your favourite spanners if they don't fit the nuts. As much as I love this forum I do get a bit sick of this do you don't you play cheese thing. I do play it, I am not ashamed of playing it, I will continue to play it mainly because I don't know how to do the job properly without playing it. To be honest if you don't want

Only one we play, and do get asked for quite a lot (not by it's correct title I might add) is Soul Banana.
  15. Sorry to hear about your bad news and my thoughts are with you all. As you may or may not know I travel amusements during the summer and just over a year ago my father was very ill in hospital and I was finding it difficult to be with him and honour the booking that we had with the fair. I was going to cancel one away in wales but dad insisted that I had to do it, the show must go on was what he said, and so I went and did the job. His condition worsened whilst I was gone however he did hang on till I got back, within 24 hours he died and I was with him at the end. The point I am making is tha
  16. Keep smiling - Hope you are feeling better soon - mick
  17. My dog (border Collie) hates this record so much that she wrecks anything in her way to get out of the room when it is on the radio. We only found out why she had started wrecking things by accident when the track came on when I was in with her. I kid you not, my normally placid dog goes mental every time she hears it :omg:
  18. I still have my big box of 7" singles and decks but due to the lack of room at many venues I just take cd's with me now. I do like playing on vinyl, it's like being a real DJ again Nik lol
  19. Just cd's for me, I have two of everything else decks, amps etc for backup, only use laptop for database so don't bother with spare one.
  20. It would be a lot worse if I moved next door to you Brian, as I have a fun fair as well as a disco :fright:
