  3. Welcome and hope you become the next Fat Boy Slim. And if you do, all donations gladly received!!! Bob
  4. When i say extrovert, i didn't mean a gob on a stick, and yes i agree that would be an annoyance to the audience. What i was trying to say was that you have to be the kind of person who isn't totally phased by being in front of an audience. (i guess you have to be a certain kind of person to make the decision to be a dj in the first place) It is very important to know when to talk over the mic and when to shut up and let the music do the talking. Bob
  5. Thanks for that Wizard! Can i ask where the lettering is most prominent? Back or sides, thinking about that myself. Bob

  9. 17p. Fantastic or what. Now my other half has probably got £500. But thats another story. Bob
  10. Now that is totally out of order! Good man! I totally agree with you. Bob
  11. Can anyone be a DJ? I think you have got to be extrovert by nature in order to be a reasonably good DJ. I think you have to be a quick thinker and a smattering of having a good instinct for what people want to hear played helps. And yes, you must have fun doing it. If you don't enjoy it, pack it in. Your performance will suffer. Then you will be forced to pack it in. Bob
  12. Some very interesting comments there. I have actually got a custom built stand complete with goalpost, trussing etc all made from stainless steel tubing (which i paid my boss for the raw materials and made myself) working at a stainless steel exhaust manufacturing company has its perks you know! I also use a moving message board as well as my advertising board but use the message board for congratulations messages etc and not for putting my name on. i think that gives a good mix between advertising and providing a service for the audience. Am afraid we are now in a very very commercial cut thr
  13. Oh dear i am going to upset everybody now. I have a sign on the front of my rig. Its black, 8ft wide and 4ft tall. I have the name of my disco business on it using white vinyl lettering in a font called Mistral. I then have my mobile number and my land line number. At the top of the panels (two panels hinged together so it folds up for transportation purposes) there are two uv tubes behind soild panels so that the white lettering glows against the black background. I do not consider it over the top or forcing my name down anyones throat and people still come up and ask for a card. Personally i
  14. Hi everyone. Just bought a pair of Funky passion barrel scanners second hand from Ebay. I was looking for some affordable dmx linkable scanners that looked impressive. Brand new they are about £115.00 each (now thats cheap, trust me!) I bought the pair second hand for £130.00 and they were like new. many thanks to the seller who was very honest in his description of them! I beleive, that Funky is EU lightings brand of budget dj equipment. The lights have a barrel scanner which has pan tilt and rotation. There are 16 gobo shapes (i think) and i can't remember how many colours. They are very bri
  15. Oh eck! I have started something here haven't i? Sorry didn't reply to anyone last night, started to feel sleepy and jumped in me pit for some kip. Anyway, my mixer is an oldie but a goodie. Its a Mcgregor SD12 and used to be in one of those old console things with an amp as well. Amp got dropped a while ago, Mcgregor kindly decided to make the mixer a 19" rack fitting one when they designed the console, so it fitted nicely into my case. The mixer has 4 channels (which have all been converted to accept the voltage from a cd or tape player by Mcgregor instead of 2 for cd and 2 for turntable).
  16. Crikey fellas! Been DJing for 6 years now and thank god nothing has ever gone wrong with my gear! I wouldn't have a bloody clue! Guess i better concentrate on learning on how everything works for a bit now! Anybody suggest any informative websites to look at, or books to read? Or are you all happy for me to carry on asking dumb ass questions? No, seriously, i have a fair understanding of most stuff, but have never even thought about using two amps before so didn't have the need to think about it. I am not that thick, honest! But all suggestions extremely welcome and maybe other people will lea
  17. Eh?!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fright.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/stupid.gif
  18. That easy eh? Thank you for your reply! Would i expect a massive increase in overall volume (assuming i bought another 600 watt amp) and would this mean my total power output was 1200 watts (or 1.2k as they say in technical land!) Right! Thats confused me now cos i have just been looking at a photo of the connections on the rear of my amp and all it has are jack and phono inputs, and jack and speakon speaker outputs. What do i do now? Sorry for being dumb. Thanks again! Bob
  19. Hi to all! Bob the technphobe dj here. By wednesday i will have 8 loudspeakers. My 4 old ones will be in the garage as spares and i will be using my new ones. Then a thought struck me. If i was ever asked to do a bigger venue than usual, could i buy another amp and run all 8 speakers and if this is possible how do you do that then? My current amp is a warrior is600 (300watt per channel). I apologise if this question makes me sound like i shouldn't be a professional dj, but you gotta learn somewhere! Thanks in advance for your comments
