  2. Hi andy - not working for me - just relaunches same page. Now you're gonna ask me what I'm using - doh Windows XP - Internet Explorer - where do I find out what version? Vinnie http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif
  3. Hope it all works out Chris - especially the health side. Take care Vinnie
  4. I price each event on individual requirements. I do charge more for weddings than general events as the price would include personal conxultation meeting(s). Vinnie
  5. Hi guys - not been around as much as I'd hoped for a bit - but here is my view on it, MCPS - have a licence that Chris described that is not designed for dj's but is a way (kind of) to work within the law as far as you can. This licence allows you to transfer music from one format to another. MCPS look after composers and lyricists and their copyright. PPL launched a "Digital" dj licence in sept 05 -This licence has been met with a lot of opposition, for its restriction as much as its cost - it only concerns itself with moving music to hardrive based players and does not include cdr. PPL
  6. Good luck Paul - glad you're getting it sorted. Vinnie http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif
  7. Hi Ian - I've only used a small one in the past but increased the bubble distance by using a small fan underneath to throw the bubbles further - just another idea. Vinnie
  8. This requirement usually comes up with weddings I always price for the evening and try to maximise on the booking by offering an early set up (if the function room is to be used for the wedding breakfast before the reception). I try to sell the benefits of this as a) - Being able to provide background music through the wedding breakfast, also offering them a choice of style and the possibility to fit some of their non-party songs into this part of the day. b) - Having the PA and radio mic(s) available for speeches c) - Should the day over-run (no, never I hear you say) The disco is in
  9. This track has been championed by Radio one DJ Colin Murray who is largely responsible for the "gay disco" tag being attached to this track. Played this on saturday at a disco with a number of gay people in attendance (one requested it as the gay disco song) followed by instant replay - Dan Hartman. Went down a storm. Vinnie
  10. Iguess you have most of it covered - but working here too http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif Vinnie
  11. QUOTE (ADS Entertainments @ Apr 25 2006, 06:02 PM) Number 9 isn't it ? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif Be afraid, be very afraid http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/hiding.gif
  12. Agree with Dan on this one Marc. Although I am still in conversation with PPL and MCPS through the Licence Working Party, this is far from a done deal. This / these licence cannot be something that DJ's are forced to buy regardless of them working for DJ's. Another point that is becoming more and more heightened is the establihments monopoly on the music business is slipping, with the growing popularity and accessability of my space etc. I am sure that PPL's and MCPS/PRS percentage representation is shrinking. Let's not roll over yet. Fact - the current licence from PPL does not w

  19. How many "Best party hits" type compilations are issued each year. The popularity of these tunes is in no small way down to mobile jocks, would tracks like YMCA have the popularity they have if we didn't play them? The above may sound like the the mad rantings of another wedding dj, but are actually the thoughts of a gentleman from Clintons (a city law firm (specialising in music law) and ex employee of BMG (now sony BMG) Vinnie
  20. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/042.gif Hi and welcome - great intro - look forward to hearing more. Cheers Vinnie
  21. Fortunately I am not a digital dj, but i do realise a dj tax when I see it - this will be rolled out to affect cd and vinyl djs somehow. In it's current state the digital dj lisense is not fit for market and the legallity of the lisense is questionable. I would not purchase it. What is needed here is a fair use agreement. Let's start re - thinking this isue from our perspective. Vinnie.
  22. These threads are great perrenials, and I think most of us fall into the catagory that would ask the bride and groom for their input track wise somewhere between 10 - 20 tracks and then get a feel for how they would like the rest to go and give our input. This mix (their requirements +dj experience / expertise) should make for a great result. However you do occasionally get people who want to draw up a complete playlist and some that take it further by requesting a strict play order. I as most would advise against this, and point out that; a) they will not be getting full value for their m

Like it http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif - very interesting performance. Vinnie
  24. This fayre is really a case of them getting too big and thinking they can get away with anything - exhibitor prices are driving exhibitor numbers down. Worse than this ..........they charge potential customers to come and spen their money with you http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif Just look at the number of fayres out there - If I were a bride ( and I hope one day I might be http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif ) I certainly would not visit this fayre. Vinnie
  25. Have been vat registered in a previous business, which was business to business, was a bit of a task as you have to do a vat return every three months (but it does mean you do your books at least once every three months http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) and basically you're an unpaid tax collector. The plus is that you can reclaim any vat spent (nice if you're buying a new van http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif . All that said, as a lot of my customers are now members of the public, I would not want to be vat registered (not quite near the thresho
