  1. Let's all just increase the peace!!!
  2. I bought the 3000 brand new when it first came out and was pretty expensive and I'm disgusted at how it has failed to perform and also at the lack of support given by Cortex who really don't seem to care about their customers at all. Avoid.
  3. Well I went my residency last night a bit early so I could watch the match. I was wearing a fetching Stars & Stripes polo shirt, loudly cheered America, and started my set straight after the match with Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen and Real American - Rick Derringer (perhaps better known as Hulk Hogan's entrance music). It was a t this point that the bar staff finally pointed out the large group of burly English gentlemen who are staying in the hotel and had been been glaring at me all night. :scared: In fairness, they were a good bunch of lads and we had a laugh. I got a few
  4. Double stinit at my residency again, sounds like the friday night DJ has quite a bad injury so I may be covering his Friday as well as doing my Saturday for a few weeks. Not great money (his slot pays less than mine, which isn't huge to start with) but I hadn't much in the diary this month anyway, and it's a fairly easy gig.
  5. Rob, did you used to be the drummer in Dodgy? There's an uncanny resemblance in that hat and shades!!! Great song though, suits your voice.
  6. DON'T Leave Me This Way - Communards Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh BAY-BEE!!!
  7. Or as we know it "Regulate". I laugh when I get a playlist from the customer of "must play" songs that are so important they don't even know the names or the artists. I genuinely had a wedding where they B&G requested a first dance that didn't exist. Well, it did, but not by the artist they thought it was. Apparently they had got a copy from an illegal file-sharing application (think "cure for scurvy") where, I'm told, amongst all the viruses are 1000s of erroneously tagged tracks. After much detective work on my part I found the correct artist and purchased the proper track. I even bought
  8. Agreed. I'll play it if requested, but I would never choose to. And I've had it clear a few dancefloors. Sounds like a 70 year-old woman to me. Or Jimmy/Jeanette Krankie. Seriously, listen to Candy. That is an horrific voice!!!
  9. Having worked in some lousy venues where you are made to feel like an inconvenience by the staff and are basically bundled into a corner, I always appreciate a dedicated performance area. Stages rock!!!
  10. PROUD Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  11. Wouldn't play it to start with. Terrible song by possibly the worst male voice in pop.
  12. I played Country House last night in what turned into a glorified 90s night. Someone randomly came up to me and asked if I could play anything from 1997, which turned into an hour of tracks from 1997 (mainly Now 34) and various other random 90s tracks. I have to say I loved it. And yes Dave, fresh out of the (microwave) oven
  13. Called down to a local Social Club last night to discuss a new residency, ended up rolling out the door in the early hours of this morning after being plied with drink and sausage rolls all night. Goodness knows what I've agreed to. Doing a double stint in the venue I have my Saturday night residency this weekend. The Friday resident is injured so I'm covering his night tonight and then I'm back there tomorrow. No moving gear around this weekend!!! I think we have our must play song for the weekend then, Blur - Country House!!!
  14. Keane and Given play for the Republic of Ireland and so wouldn't be eligible for a GB or UK team (GB is England, Scotland and Wales; UK is GB and Northern Ireland). I can see the logic behind a combined team though. It's a tragedy that the greatest player of all time, George Best, never graced the World Cup stage. And even more of a tragedy is the fact that Emile Heskey has.
  15. Comments like that are a sure-fire way of getting a punch-up started. Nice use of racial stereo-typing there :nono:
  16. It's amazing how often I find this happening. I do some work for a local hotel and often turn up not knowing what sort of function it is (wedding, birthday etc) and they almost NEVER have the name of the bride and groom/birthday boy or girl etc. It's incredible.
  17. I suppose this throws up a few points for consideration. Residency v Private Party - You can always earn more at private functions, but the residency is a guaranteed booking every week. Private bookings could dry up very quickly, without warning. Frustration - Is this something that will pass, or is it permanent? Is there anything you can do to try and make this venue more bearable? Loyalty - This is one where I have a huge problem. I have a ridiculous sense of loyalty to a particular venue even though they continually let me down, and on one occasion sacked me without cause. Ye
  18. Jealous? Not at all. I still remember the last competitive game between Northern Ireland and England. To refresh your memory: Based on the English example, I've got at least another 40 years to gloat about this endlessly. (And our goal definitely WAS over the line)
  19. Time to start planning my playlist for the night. Star-Spangled Banner, Born In The USA, America The Beautiful...
  20. Well folks, what's on the cards for this weekend? Tomorrow night I'm providing my services at the final of the local darts league's individuals tournament. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will all be played on the night. I'll be playing each player's entrance mucis, certain songs at certain times for presentations, and then a bit of a disco after. During the matches, I'll also be logging the scores on a bit of Darts scoring software I've loaded onto my laptop, which will be projected onto a big screen, which is kind of cool. The on Saturday, it's the residency as usual.
  21. AMEN!!! I wish more KJs thought like this Rob. I do it, and I despair when I see hosts that son't.
  22. [quote name='vokf' date='May 27 2010, 12:45 PM' post='253696' Obviously, there are Scottish, Irish and Welsh members here, so the page able allows you to highlight when your country is playing. I'm sure my celtic cousins will be supporting the same team as me - Anyone But England :funjokeandlaugh: I don't see the World Cup adversely affecting me too much. There might be the occasional big game that causes me to start a little later than usual, but that's no different to a big Premier League or Champions League game.
  23. I guess the simple guideline is that if you start with poor sound quality, the best you can hope for after going through the mixer and amp is the same bad quality, so it makes sense to go for the best quality possible. I'm no expert, but I guess that would be FLAC or WAV, but the sheer size of those files makes them impractical. So that takes us to either VBR (Variable Bit Rate) or a CBR (Constant Bit Rate) of 320kb/p/s. I was always a big fan of VBR, but a lot of hardware has trouble reading that, so I'm noe a convert to CBR, and it has to be 320, or an absolute minimum of 256. The difference
