Being flexible helps. If I've not been to the venue before, I'll often take the sub + full lighting with me, although I think 9/10 times I don't actually need/use the sub... Cheers, David

I got one wedding gig where every DJ she seemed to speak to was pushing "Lasers" and "awesome light shows" - She wasn't interested in Lasers or anything like that ! A Single wizard imho is a bit too minimal, two (one either side) would be better. Having said that I have done (and do) smaller discos where I just use two datamoons, and a pair of uplighters, and nothing else. Price doesn't change on what kit I use - Unless its beyond the realms of what my deckstand suitably take (about 5 halogen effects is near the overhead limit, 7 would probably fit if I used lighter LED lighting

Should Recommendations Be Paid For?
gadget replied to spinner's topic in Marketing & Business Matters
A recommendation is worth nothing unless you get a booking out of it. Even then it is *only* a recommendation, nothing more. There are no guarantees, etc... Cheers, David -
How Do You 'crack' Wedding Fayres?
gadget replied to Tommo55's topic in Marketing & Business Matters
Which ones were they? I know there was on at the Albert Halls (I've DJ'd for a wedding there, and its a PITA getting in / out!), and there was one I beleive just gone at Brookfield Masonic Hall, Westhoughton (DJ'd there as well! and almost round the corner from where I live)... Cheers, David -
I've had kids younger than 13 request random stuff like "Ace of Spades" ! Well done! Cheers, David

So which version of Danny Boy is recommended? As there's many different versions, and I've had a request via email this evening to have this played tomorrow evening! Cheers, David ps. whether I'll actually play it is another matter entirely.. of course! :msn-wink:

I don't use any boxes on my overhead bar - I've got a 1-IEC male into 3 x IEC female on one end, and a 1-IEC male to 2x IEC females on the other end.. No pre-wiring of overhead bar, as I sometimes change it depending on the gig... It doesn't take too long to wire together either... Cheers, David

I *think* you can get a DN-X500, HD2500 and HC4500 all together on the top panel (at least I calculated it as 4U for the mixer, 3U each HD & HC unit).. - This would be my ideal (well ideal would be the DN-X900 mixer) With BU-4500 or DN-D4500 drawer in the front + 2 u spare for other stuff... (like x-over / digital eq unit etc). Cheers, David

lol, agreed - I blew two osram lamps in a Soundlab Colourscan on successive gigs.. They lasted less than a 10th of their expected lifespan I went mad and bought 2 of each of the bulbs (except osram, still had one left!) at the same time I bought my abs gator mixer flight case.... which is one of the better purchases I've made (and my back agrees!)...

Yes I'd hold out for RCF / QSC !

:welcome: from Bolton (ish) ! Where are you based? Cheers, David

The soundlab bulbs are very hit and miss. I compared soundlab std, Osram Std, Philips Std, Philips Long Life and XenPow in a pair of datamoons... Brightest to dimmest:- XenPow Osram Std Philips Std Philips LL Soundlab I'm currently using XenPow A1/259 bulbs in my datamoons, and they're pretty bright. I also replaced both switches on the datamoons as they had both melted internally(!). All bulbs were brought from a well known nottingham retailer/etailer :) Cheers, David

I think he means which type of the Peavey Pro 15's to go for. The Peavey Pro MKII's come in both 8 Ohm and 4 Ohm variants. Obviously at 8 Ohms you'll stress the amp less (half the load than a 4 Ohm speaker would give). If your amp can supply 300w at 8 Ohms, then go for the pair of 8 Ohms ones... If in emergency you need to double-up the speakers onto one channel (a channel goes down on the amp, and the other one carries on), then you could just piggyback both speakers off the one channel, to present a 4 Ohm load (albeit at a reduced volume). Cheers, David

The strobe is "ok", but I've got a weird one where the spirals are dark blue on one and purple on the other.. Not sure what the colour is supposed to be or if the gobo wheel was made in a different facility (both serial numbers seem indicate they were built around the same time). White is alright I've found, as most floors are some sort of wooden floor, so most light doesn't reflect back off of it.. Also i have settings (override buttons) for all-white, all-blue, etc. etc. for other lights in my "rig"... Otherwise, good post on how to customise your Datamoon a little ! :) Cheer

Just saw this on our (Bolton) council's website... even they're now offering "packages". "For the first time, The Albert Halls team is offering full wedding day packages at The Albert Halls itself, Mere Hall and Carnegie Hall, in Westhoughton. Wedding packages include a wedding breakfast, evening reception, balloons, wedding favours, table accessories and much more. " Doesn't say anywhere if a DJ is included - but wouldn't be surprised. It's a nightmare getting in/out of The Albert Halls though, so wonder how much the DJ is getting for the extra hour loading in, parking the
