  1. Could potentially be for a long signal cable run? or to go into a DI Box and then onto another mixer elsewhere? Or could be designed for bigger power amps that have a higher input requirement (sensitivity - e.g. 1.25v input rather than 0.775v) for full power output? Perhaps the bigger power amps need a bigger input so less electronics required to go from input to the output of several kW ? I too want a DNX-500 or a DNX-900... as my current mixer is too big (and too easy to knock the channel faders, causing embarassment on a couple of occassions).. Cheers, David
  2. After sufferning a power failure a week or so ago rendering my CD players useless (when I needed them!), I guess anything can crash regardless - there aint a lot you can do - CDs can potentially skip, HDD's can crash, power supplies can fail leaving you with 160volts and nothing working... ! Anything can go wrong - it happens. Power amplifiers can go bang (one has on me), so you'll lose sound whatever - but the main thing is you do have some form of backup for the essential items... I don't get this "if you've got cd players for backup you might as well play them" line... Equipment
  3. Thursday - Kids Xmas Party in the afternoon - approx 90 kids. Friday - Kids Xmas Party (same school/venue!) in the afternoon - approx 120+ kids. Saturday - Dinner/Dance/Christmas Party for an NHS Medical Centre/Doctor Surgery... Sunday - Sleep, maybe.. :) +1 on the photo shots - got some good ones last week (despite lack of lighting!) :)
  4. There's also the Denon MC6000 available as well - one of the few all-in-one midi controllers to have tone controls on the Mic input. It will work with Virtual DJ as well. I believe the VMS4 has some major issues at present, and personally I'd avoid that one until they're resolved (if they can be resolved). Cheers, David

    New Rig

I've got a pair of INT112's and they sounded quite harsh and not that good (12inch version of the ones you've got above, slightly older design though). They have a piezo horn in them, so won't sound as good as a speaker with a Compression Driver in them. I picked up a comment from someone on the dancefloor (lip reading), and they said to a friend something along the lines of "I can't hear/make out what its saying" or something to that effect). This was on Cha-Cha Slide, in a school hall... Part of it could have been down to the acoustics, but it was enough to make me go out and buy someth
  6. I did have a few dates which never came off annoyingly! There was a message left at the office for a NYE booking - but as I didnt go into the office for a week and didn't get the message - it was too late when I called them back *sigh* When you think that most hotels are charging a fair whack per person for these xmas dinners, people don't always want to pay that price for them (I think around here it was something like 30 or so quid in November, rising to 35 and 40 quid per person at one big hotel around here!). Cheers, David
  7. I have to say it feels "better" using a midi controller than the keyboard to play a track... I've got the Denon-HD2500 although it seems to be being used more of a midi-controller rather than the purpose it was designed for (playing directly off of it!), but its there as a backup in case laptop crashes though I guess :) Cheers, David
  8. 1) Fount it a bit unstable on previous versions, but 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 have been pretty stable. Mostly gets upset when sleeping and then removing the USB device while asleep. But thats not just traktor that gets upset I've found :) 2) Haven't lost preferences - you can usually save the track collection (right click track collection and "save") to stop playlists disappearing :) 3) Search database - i've had issues in the past (and still do) where tracks sometimes have 00:00 length and sometimes the kbps column or BPM goes a bit awry too.. but a re-analyze seems to sort that - again it could b
  9. It's quite possibly due to dry solder joints, rather than blown LED's. They're usually wired in series together (usually in groups of 3), so you'll always see more than one LED off if one did pack up, or was caused by a dry solder joint somewhere. Below is how they may be typically wired: - first 3 LEDs and a resistor:- ------[===]-------O----O----O------ Sometimes you may see them wired in two sets of 3 with one resistor for both groups (reduces component count and therefore reduces cost to manufacture):- |---O----O----O---| ----+ +------[==
  10. Yes they were! Despite the issues with sound and lack of lighting - They sang along most of the time anyway! All you can do in these situations is apologise and if anyone asks (which only one did directly), I just referred them to the venue manager ! I'd really love to do a night like that again (without the power issue!). tested the mixer yesterday (was doing background/announcements for a Christmas Fair - last minute thing), and all seemed ok with that, and the most of lights seemed to be working when I tried them in standalone mode - will see if they're still working prope
  11. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! :tree: :norfolk: I think I'll go get my coat... :blameless: David
  12. +1 Although not planning on spending any of it, most will go to Mr Taxman most likely !
  13. After experiencing issues with a generator the other night (power cut, see the other thread on 3-5th december!), I was left with only two LED par cans working and all halogen fixtures were out of action! :/ Cheers David
  14. Had first Christmas party also on Wednesday evening (1st). Was for a Fitness instructor and her instructees... 80 women and about 4 men...! Started off really well with background music, left the datamoons on slow rotate (with irritating 100ms stop - damned you freestyler!), and aimed the dmx scanners at the celing to give a bit of light so people could see a bit what they were eating :) The buffet I have to say was just, well brilliant - it puts some wedding buffets to shame - I've never seen so many prawns, gammon ham, turkey breast type platters, etc (not your usual buffet).
  15. I'm all for raising prices, but at 100% is quite a significant hype. at 4£ (sic), a click, thats a pretty high price imho just to get a clickthrough ! Cheers, David
  16. We've got some snow up here - but really not that much at all - the worst bit is the odd bit of ice on the roads... but its covered with snow at the minute so not as bad.. Started heavy snowing briefly whilst on the way to a gig last night - was quite weird felt like i was driving through a starfield or something whilst on the motorway... ! My next gig should be a bit more interesting as its on a tiny village road twisty turny in the middle of nowhere..! Cheers, David
  17. Same here - love the brightness of the datamoons - they're used at every gig these days (on their own with datacon1 and a pair of par cans on smaller setups). They're easy enough to service - I've given them a fairly good clean (could have done a better job of the gobo wheel in one of them). Have got another pair of datamoons, but one has a faulty dish motor.. Will most likely invest in newer lighting after sound system upgrades, which are next (mixer and active speakers).
  18. 99 quid from DJ superstore... Have to say the casing looks a bit on the ugly side. Also a whopping great heatsink on display on the left hand side as well..... Having reviewed the video for that vs the Cougar - I have to say the Cougar wins - the gobos seem to stop half way on the ADJ Xpress.. the inbuilt programme(s) don't appear to be as good. Quite like the Cougar - they must have used a half decent 10w White LED in that to get a good brightness - just like bulbs, there are good & not so good LED's David
  19. Ello MintyDave ! Interesting, 10w LEDs being almost as good as the datamoons. What bulbs you have in the datamoons? (I've found this makes quite a difference in brightness to me). Had a look at the phase1 video of them.. Looks interesting and fast gobo switching too.. The outer patterns don't seem to be 100% there on the video (ie slighty dimmer on the outside of the moving circle).. Not that much more expensive than datamoons I guess either.. Cheers, Dave
  20. Had an explanation by email not that long ago:- "We have doubled the charges on the category 100-250 because we have a negative return of investment when we attract customers from Google. In average we pay google 4£ for these enquiries, and in average we only receive 3£. By doubling the prices we hope to get 6 £ and thereby have a small positive profit" Cheers, David
  21. That was supposed to be Summer 2009 :) Cheers, David I think if you don't login for a while the notifications stop. Just login again and you'll start getting them again? Cheers, David
  22. Yeah had one like that as well - is it really that hard to select the right option?! :wall: Also what if you just cannot contact the person in question, surely you should get a refund for that as well... Cheers, David
  23. Ok, so I use it now and again to pick up the odd potential gig to fill in a gap in the diary when I'm a bit quiet. Had an enquiry (from elsewhere) fall through, and had a look on goodparty to see if there was anything to fill up the space... Now, logged on today, and their enquiry prices seemed to have jumped from £1.00 to £2.00 for the basic 100-250 enquiry price, and 250-500 has now gone from £2.00 to £3.00. - so 100% increase and a 50% increase respectively. £1.00 aint too much to gamble on for a potential date to fill in the diary (in fact, two £1.00 investments have res
  24. I was thinking more of the static dots that don't move. Most, if not all gobo based lights move in some way or another! Cheers, david
  25. Good set of responses so far! Norfolk: The rest of the client contact is that also done via email too (booking forms / contract / etc)? Interesting thanking them for their hospitality etc. what's the response rate to that email? Cheers, David
