  1. Whilst I'm not a fan of megamixes they are good for that little boys room break due to their length. I use, like most I guess the Grease one at almost evetry wedding, I think people expect to hear it along with other chessy stuff at weddings. Abba gets a run out sometime and I've even been asked for the Five megamix a couple of times. I thinks it's on a CD single of theirs as a bouns track. I find with megamixes people start dancing and then the song changes after 1 1/2 minutes and peopleseem disapointed :hurt:.
  2. I do this as a way of valuable advertising. People will ask you for a business card, and it will get disguarded after it gets tatty or they turn out their handbag or wallet, whereas a bride will always keep her wedding cards and when someone says who was the disco at your wedding? they can say "I have a card with their details on". I also have pens with contact details on for requests on tables, because people today will take anything that's not screwed down. I saw a father of the bride at a weding fayre in a large hotel take 2 big hand fulls of pens and stuff them in his pocket
  3. How about the cloths show theme... and any other up beat instrumentals seem to work well for me, the likes of Alantic Ocean - Waterfalls.
  4. Pay for them????? I do at least 6 a year and don't pay for any. I do them for free in the venues that I have contracts with. Another case of not "what you know" but "who you know". Most people that came and see me are clients who have already booked up but justy want to meet the DJ and discuss musical content. I find them very helpful in making the B&G feel that their day is special and a one off, not just another wedding disco with the same old cheesy tunes. Jon
  5. Does anyone has any idea where I can purchase G clamps or some kind of Bose 802 speaker mounting brackets to hang them from the industry standard 50mm trilite trussing. Your help and knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Jon
  6. Ah Gary, with the pircings? the indie specialist? How are you sir. and hello to Marky Marc who must be from near here as he seems to know where Basingstoke is, just up the road from Surrey. Go out for a drink? As long as it's not on a Sunday because it would clash with going to church... But all joking aside, sounds good to me as long as you promise not to laugh at the fat git that turns up as me. It's been a long time and a lot of meals later, (must be at least 8 years) since I last worked for A&K. good to hear from you Jon
  7. I use PCDJ and that gains and BPM's all tracks that you add into the waitlist.
  8. I go along the lines of, do I want to work or not. Is £150 better than sitting at home with my equipment not in use. I quote £275 for 7:30 - mdt locally and adjust for extra time, distance and carry at gig, but might reduce that depending on how I feel. I don't really have a fixed price as I'll always ask how much they've been quoted already and maybe try and do a deal. If the diary is busy their less likely to get a deal. We'd all like to earn as much as possible, but you can't have your equipment sat there doing nothing for the sake of a couple of quid. Jon
  9. I believe that you should tell the customer that the previous contract is cancelled. The details of that contract have changed and as a result a new one needs to be agreed. Jon
  10. A couple missing from other posts on this thread that I'm finding work well are: Kylie - Can't get you outta my head Mark Ronson - Valarie Jon
  11. Nice. I've had couples that have had secret dance lessons for their 1st dance and surprised everyone. But that just worked so well. They've rehearsed it and pulled it of well. and look at how it whipped the guests up. I bet that DJ's never had it so easy. Jon
  12. There are so many takes on this issue. firstly People are booking a disco, not a nice looking van outside. If you're good at what you do will people not book you because your van is tatty? park it round the back when you've unloaded if so. I'm a firm believer in someone might see you and follow you home to steal it at some point in the near future. This happened to someone I know and he found someone using his gear some months latter in a local pub. All worked out ok in the end. On the other side of the coin if your vehicle is to nice people think your to expensive. I've had
  13. Good luck with the new challange. this thread makes interesting reading I use a pc that a friend built for me some 6 years ago and it's still running perfect. It has 512 ram and run xp. with 300 gb. I have had a new mother board in this time but that's it. I run pcdj red. it does the job without the needless extras. It's housed in a server case for that on road protection. Blinding piec of kit Thanks to Rik Jon
  14. Here's an idea. Let him pay for the insurance, then agree a fee for every time he comes with you and uses his van.
