  1. Hello, hope you can help with this one... Ive been to several shops recently and ive had different answers to the same question. I have a 200w per channel in to 4 ohm amplifier. I have two sets of speakers both 8 ohm. Put them in parallel you get 4 ohms. I accept this. But if one pair is 100w max and the other 200w max, Will the amp blow the 100w pair of speakers? One shop said... No, cos you've linked them together your ohmage goes down so that means the total power rating of the speaker as a system is 300 so the amp is too small. Second shop said that you halve the power of both speakers put
  2. Hello, out of interest do any of you guys use a computer/laptop to control your lightshow through dmx? I'm toying with the idea, Have had a look round a few programs that allow you to create scenes and sequences etc and then run them from the touch of a button. On the flip side not really used a dedicated controller before, will it be just the same as the programs on the computer? Thus does it make any sense to run it from the computer if a normal controller can do as good a job? Thoughts and ideas gratefully received...
  3. Is there anyway something could have crawled into it? I had an old video pop once that smoked and smelled pretty bad. A spider had crawled in and shorted the main power supply diode. Made a right mess of it, but was able to replace it. The diode that is not the spider.
  4. hi there, the mixer i have only has phono outs, no xlr/trs at all. so will have to stick to my usual cable. Just wanted to ask due to me having a decent set of speakers and amp now (after always having cheap crp) that i should try to do the best by them and buy some decent cables, but as you've all said, it won't make any difference. Ho Hum.
  5. Hi YOURBIGEVENT, the mixer i use is a Behringer VMX 300. Its only a dj mixer as opposed to a mixing desk, so does the trick for me, it only has phono outputs though. Hope that helps!
  6. Hi There, As i've just had a new (albeit second hand) amp for my gigs, c-audio ra3001, it has xlr and jack inputs. At the moment i use jack inputs via a jack - rca cable from the mixer. Would it be worth my while investing in some rca to xlr cables? Will it do anything to my sound quality, there seems lots of explanations as to what balanced and unbalanced are but no real explanations as to which one is better. Maybe they aren't? Any advice would be much appreciated. Bestest regards

    Jbl M350's

Think you are probably right... Just to explain, my reasoning for looking into it was because i had checked the woofer model number on a website which gives the Thiele Small parameters for it i.e. the mechanical properties, and popping the figures into a box calculator from a reputable web page it worked out the box could lose about 20cm in height for the same frequency response curve. Just like to try to think outside the box sometimes hence the name, scrooge, i don't like wasting money. Don't mind spending it when its worth it but just don't like wasting it. I will try to sell them during th

    Jbl M350's

Hi there sorry i should have worded it slightly different im not going to chop up the jbl cab i will build a new one that is slightly deeper and so can be a bit shorter to try to preserve the volume. i will then use the components from the jbls and fit them into the new cab. thus when i want to sell them on i can just put it all back how it was in the old cab. i know the amp is a good one im definately keeping that!

    Jbl M350's

Hi there! i'm a newbie to the forum but not a newbie dj. Here goes with the question... I managed to get myself some JBL M350's on ebay for a very small amount of money. I am more than happy with the sound from them as i run them from a c-audio ra3001, they really lifted the roof on new year. But they re just so big and cumbersome. Now i know that changing the cab will change the sound i get from them, this bit i can play around with, but will this change in cab affect the power capabilities? I know it won't change the woofer maximum power rating but i am worried about changing airflows, vol
