  1. I concur with all the comments so far, but I'd recommend for some of the more recent dance/house music, you take a look at the 4CD box sets that go under the branding of: "The Number 1..." (eg The Number 1 Funky House Album or The Number 1 Old Skool Album). These albums can be bought for as little as £7.99 - not bad for 4CDs. I've got a few of these albums, some of which are due to be delivered by HMV any day now. These albums are unmixed, but they do have some extended versions which sometimes means the song lasts longer than the attention span of the people you are playing it for http:
  2. The service from the Musicians Union representatives is excellent. I joined in October, mainly for the PLI, but having had a quick read through the advice leaflets on tax, I've saved myself some extra money. When I joined, I got sent a membership card, then I heard nothing for about four weeks. So, I dropped the regional rep an e-mail, asking if I would be sent a membership pack with the generic PLI certificate (mine does not have my name on???). The rep got onto the case and I had a membership pack within a couple of days. All correspondence with my regional rep was quick and she was v
  3. I'd normally say get a van and get something like a Citroen Berlingo (Peugeot Partner) or an Escort Van... ...but I've just found out that my Citroen Berlingo has been called in for modifications to the front suspension. They are putting a makeshift cup on the bottom of the springs. Which is a damn shame really, as my near side suspension failed while it was parked on the driveway back in May. I paid for the repairs at a local garage I've used for years. However, I'm putting a claim in to Citroen UK as there is obviously a faulty batch of springs, at least according to the dealer I
  4. I've also PMd Ian, so if he can get a bulk buy discount, please make your interest known as soon as possible. Cheers, DJJ
  5. QUOTE (DJF @ Sep 13 2005, 12:34 PM) i filled up on saturday bcoz i'm on a course for three days travelling to darlington for two and leeds for the other with day job and paid 99.9p for diesel. Just as well you filled up before you got to Darlington. A few places ran dry last night and there were big queues at some of the petrol stations that did have fuel... mainly old buggers who rarely do more than driving to the old folks centre, bowls club or to get some long life milk from the shops http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin
  6. I remember that clip from 'Drop the Dead Donkey' DJJ
  7. QUOTE (stevemitchell @ Jul 5 2005, 12:16 PM) James Blunt--You`re Beautiful.. Play it at the end they`ll love it. Good song, but make sure you play the clean version... mind you it all depends on the audience you are playing to. DJJ EDIT: Oooops, this has already been covered, see: THIS THREAD
  8. QUOTE (superstardeejay @ May 16 2005, 10:30 PM) From memory, Pulsar use the Texas Instruments (TIC) series, NJD use Philips (BT) and Ryger use SGS-Thomson (ST) parts. So it's not that simple. Get it wrong and it can either half-wave (ie flicker or blow motor windings) or simply not power up. At worst, it can introduce a short from mains to chassis. One letter out can mean all the difference!! Take care. K. Edwards Hi superstardeejay, I did look up some of the information about the different letters and numbers in the part name - but most of it went over my head http://www.dj-for
  9. QUOTE (Kingy @ May 16 2005, 02:44 PM) Do you mean that even though you have replaced the duff one, the channel is still on? If so, there is a chip that drives the triac and that is playing up. If the triac is still off, its possible that the source to switch it is faulty. Also look for any missing solder, as when the old triac popped it may have blown some off the board if it went big style. The B or TW is not important in this type of application. Hi Kingy, Thanks for the speedy response. The old triac was locked on (also checked with a multimeter and there was a permanent on
  10. On a similar note... about triacs... Does anyone know where I can get some BTA 08-600TW triacs? These are the triacs used in the NJD Euro 4e controllers. I tried the triacs available at Maplins and they do not switch (BTA08-600B). I've put a meter on the triac pins and there is no switching. The fuse has been replaced on the problem channel and I've even tried two different triacs that I got from Maplins. I've been to a local disco shop and he won't sell me a triac, but he will repair the unit at what I believe is an unreasonable price... especially when, if I had the part, I could

    Van Morrison

I know there are probably a number of different recordings of Van Morrisons's "Brown Eyed Girl", but the one I use has the: "Sha-la-la-la, la-la, la, la." bit at the end... guess which current song begins with those words??? I know there is a tempo change, but you can exit Brown Eyed Girl and go into Tony Christie - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo. Otherwise, the suggestions above would all work well and many of which I have used after the Van Morrison track. DJJ

    Which song...

Off the top of my head, I did notice that I seem to have loads of copies of: Ben E King - Stand By Me Other than that though, many of the so-called 'Party' albums have very similar material on them. DJJ
  13. QUOTE (Kingy @ Apr 26 2005, 04:18 PM) Most of them I have met over the years have been ok. Agree about the mega lights! I had one bad night where every time the dancers got up, the idiot video man turned on his TWO 500 watt security type lights and started filming. This put the dancers off completely! By 10.30 I had put up with enough and had a word with him, explaining the problem. He couldn't care less, he was "being paid to do a job!". Talk about jobs worth! Oh, yes... I've had this before. There were two people doing the videography at one wedding. There was the main video guy w
  14. Well all you can do is what you said by alerting the B&G and on a personal note a live band playing all night may prove to be quite tendius. I think I've done everything I can to make sure all parties are aware of what I've experienced previously about bands doing the music for the whole night. I'm pretty sure that the bride and groom are not going to get a decent disco in between the bands sets. The bride and groom may or not see this althougha factor to take into account is that if the band want to provide the disco aswell will they expect a further payment? The thing is, my fe
  15. Without hijacking the topic... I've just encountered a problem with a band and the bride and groom for a function I was booked in for at my residency. Basically, I was told that I'd be working on Saturday 30th April by my residency because there was a wedding. However, I have just been informed that the band have offered to do all the music on the night. I have warned my residency to double check that that band are not just going to throw on a Now CD in between their sets as this is simply not a disco!!! I have asked for these concerns to be passed onto the bride and groom. In my ex
