  1. IMHO probably one of the most over-rated effects on the market....and I used to sell them. To be honest I got them on the strength of that video. I wish I'd studied it more closely. There are 2 important factors to bear in mind when watching this type of video: Firstly, video cameras are more sensitive than the human eye and leds and lamps look much brighter on recordings than they actually are. Try it with your phone. Secondly, they are made by the supplier in order to sell the product so they will take steps to ensure it looks as good as possible, often with no sense of pers
  2. I'll be honest, I've got into DJing relatively late in life, having spent many, many years behind a shop counter selling DJ and PA gear and playing in pub bands and every gig I do teaches me a little bit more. This was my first New Year's gig. A nice local pub with around 100 or so customers, aged 30 -70, and ticket only to ensure everyone got a seat. I know the licensee, having played there a couple of times with the band, and soul and Motown was the order of the day. Not a problem......or so I thought. From the reaction of the customers, or rather the lack of it, I soon realised that I
  3. You're dead right. I've been in retail electronics for 27 years and I've never seen anything as bad as this. I am all but dropping the retail side of the business, just keeping the consumables like lamps, cables, fluids etc, but as I have a lease on my premises I can't just walk away. I am going back into repairs and servicing. It's come to something when I can earn more money from fixing an amp than from selling a new one but you have to cut your cloth accordingly. Re. the account, after I registered WS&L Ltd I realised that I'd registered WS&L a couple of years earlier. It was
  4. Hi, not really a newbie post but as I don't have enough posts to PM a mod and can't find it in the search or help sections...... I am getting out of retailing (not made a penny in 5 years), and concentrating on my DJing and a couple more projects which are more lucrative, so can I change my display name and profile or should I re-register? Col
  5. Oh don't get me started. Why not publish directions and a map as well. Tell you what I can start a shuttle bus service for everyone. At least I will still have a job when my shop goes bust. I'll probably make more money doing that than I do now trying to compete with my own suppliers. Calm blue oceans, calm blue oceans..........Right, I am OK now. Like I said, don't get me started. However, in true democratic style, please allow me to put forward another viewpoint. The blame here lies at Electrovision's door. I can't blame anyone for trying to get the best deal
  6. Firstly I have to commend you on wishing to use a local retailer. We need people like you. However that's a good price. You'd expect to pay a tenner or so more from a shop because of the overheads but in the absence of a local dealer I'd get them. Col
  7. Best to cut your losses with this one. I used to sell the DA range and always found them under-powered. I once measured a DA1000 (2 x 500W) flat out. It was giving about 850W and clipping. Made me wonder what the clip limiter was actually doing. You can't get schematics to repair them either. The Chinese factories won't release them for fear of the designs being copied. Apparently they don't approve of counterfeit goods over there! But I digress. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. If you get 2 years from a budget amp you've had your money's worth. If you can't stretch
  8. Interesting. I buy NJD gear direct and I've never heard of, seen or been offered a Chaos 3. I've just logged on to their website and they only show the standard Chaos, the Chaos 2 and the 2002. Did it have the NJD logo?
  9. It is still worth considering a cluster type laser though as they work very well without smoke. Graphics lasers also give good effects on walls as they are basically projectors. Standard beam types are pretty boring without smoke though.......oh look a red line.....oh now it's green........now it's red....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Col
  10. Ok. Wrists slapped! Glad to be here and glad to get myself noticed.......................probably for the wrong reasons though. Col
  11. What's point are you making though? Are you suggesting that they should be much cheaper? It really doesn't matter how much they come in to the country for. Everyone has to make a buck, from the manufacturer to the retailer (me, selling at £5.99!) and everyone else in the supply chain. We all have overheads and we all need to scrape a living. Digging deeper, if you take off the freight costs from China and the manufacturer's profit you'll find that the actual factory floor build price is pennies. That also applies to the majority of DJ gear from the Far East. I don't have problem with that thou
