  1. Another good (but admittedly expensive) option is the QSC K10, massive output for a 10" speaker and very tidy and easy to transport, depends on your budget not sure how price compares with rcf's but if memory serves me correctly they are more expensive. If you play small gigs mainly you would rarely need a sub with these.
  2. :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:
  3. Yeah it does seem a little odd to pay for 3 software programs when you can only use one at a time, I only switched to laptop in the past year and bought VDJ first and was very happy with it so never saw a need to buy anything else, I am glad also that I have the option of a backup machine, IMO the licence should be issued to the individual rather than the machine, thereby allowing you have a backup, what if your laptop crashes or gets dropped and has to be repaired. I guess they have their reasons however.
  4. Machine locked?? So if you upgrade to a new machine you have to buy a new licence, or can you contact them and get permission to switch to your new machine? I think it is very reasonable to be allowed a backup machine once the purchaser is the sole user.
  5. I thought that you are allowed have virtual DJ on 2 laptops as long as you are the only one using them and they are not in use at the same time? Surely you are not expected to purchase a second copy for a backup machine, I only have one laptop, CD's are my backup but I have been considering buying a backup laptop.
  6. A bit simplistic but not completely wrong in everything he says. He makes it seem like anybody can do it, they probably can but not everybody can do it well. There is a DJ in my town who has been at it for nearly a decade now and he is still utterly rubbish, can't read the crowd and his song selection is appauling coupled with no mic skills whatsoever. No amount of shiny kit will make this guy a good DJ. If I was to start from scratch though I could probably put together a useable PA for under a grand, and download every song I would ever need from one of the torrent sites. This is what guys l
  7. There are 2 NJD Datamoons there as well but they are out of picture, I use these on a stand in another part of the room and normally point them at the roof. The led panels are more than adequate though for any small to medium venue, I will add a lazer to the deckstand later in the year to complete the lighting effect.
  8. Hi All, Just sharing some photos from the weekend, see what ye think, some are from a wedding and the others are from a new residency I started a few weeks ago. http://imagehost.fr/images/95IMG_0163.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/21IMG_0164.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/95IMG_0159.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/57IMG_0153.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/57IMG_0148.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/44IMG_0145.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/51IMG_0141.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/97IMG_0144.jpg http://imagehost.fr/images/13IMG_0156.jpg http://ima
  9. Well done, I like it, not going to tell you it's a potential number one or anything but quite catchy and alot better than some of the drivel we hear on the radio these days. Keep it up, do you sing professionally?
  10. There is also stuff by arcade fire, nirvana, the pale (who??) and other obscure stuff. All of it is good music don't get me wrong, but not dancefloor music. Will let ye know what happens, friend of mine is coming along as I'm hoping to capture some of it for a website promo video so hopefully I'll have a lively crowd.
  11. Agreed, I just can't see some of their selections working, but after all it's their wedding so will have to try, I have a pdf list of about 120 wedding favourite songs on my website that I ask couple to print out and then highlight the ones they like and send on to me. Idea is that this will guide them and stop people requesting daft music, I always remind couples (nicely) also that their wedding disco should not be used to showcase their own personal taste in music, and that a full floor is the overall aim. I took a saturday night residency until the end of August in a busy pub because to be
  12. My weekend started wednesday with a Karaoke residency, wedding tonight & Pub residency on Saturday, wedding tonight gave me a request list which I'm a bit worried about, alot of stuff I wouldn't normally play at a wedding, smashing pumpkins radiohead and other alternative type stuff. There will be over 200 people of all ages so I'm not sure if these will work, have permission to use my own judgement if their selection crashes and burns so will definately be announcing over the mic that I'm doing the B & G's selection.
  13. The dh-hc4500 and cd drawer have also come down, 640 pounds on thomanns uk store with free delivery to your door
  14. Yes I always have a CD cued, it takes roughly 3-5 seconds to change over depending on how nimble your fingers are, you hit source > select CD > OK...... done. You can even cue a cd in deck I when you are using deck I on VDJ. I have to say it is the best purchase I have made in a long time, it hasn't skipped, frozen or given any trouble whatsoever and is a real pleasure to use, and also it seems to like VDJ which is what you use as well. There is an excellent 10 minute tutorial of the unit working here on pcdj.co.uk. Paul Moss walks you through how the unit works, changes to CD etc, worth
  15. Spotted on youtube. I have three gigs between here and Sunday I think I need some of what he's on. Enjoy
  16. Hi all, just wanted to make a quick point about having spare equipment with you at gigs. I would guess the vast majority of DJ's that use this forum already do this but for those who don't, last saturday night one of my speakers cut out mid gig, then strangely came back in when I mixed over to the next song. I always keep a box with all sorts of spare leads next to me just in case, and it was a faulty phono cable that was the problem as it turns out. I frantically replaced it and problem solved. I can't figure out how this happened as the cables are permanently wired into a flight case with my

    Stuck In A Rut

I have recently taken on a saturday night residency until the end of august because I hadn't too much else formally booked, problem is the playlists are very repetitive, because they work, bar has been rammed the last couple of weeks and the manager is delighted with how things are going. However I often get the same song requested up to 5-6 times per night :wall: It cracks me up but I just think of the fee and keep telling myself it's only until the end of August. My job is to keep as many punters in the bar as possible, and while it is tempting to experiment with the music, I think it woul
  18. Starting tonight too, Karaoke residency, this has been absolutely insane the last few weeks have had to stop taking requests with an hour to go so will probably be more of the same toninght. To be honest this gig is wearing me down a little bit, some of the customer are incredibly rude and demanding and 3 hours straight of this type of nonsense leaves me totally shattered, will persevere for now considering it's a summer residency and the summer is halfway through, using the proceeds of this to purchase a new pa so worth it. Thursday is set up and a 2 hour rehearsal for an x-factor karao
  19. Good Idea for a thread, some of my favourites have already been mentioned but would like to add the Jackson 5, I want you back & ABC, always get a good reaction for me anyway. Also ain't no mountain high enough, great tune
  20. Yep it's a big mixer, that citronic case I linked is built like a brick :crap: house and still looks brand new after months of gigging, money well spent.
  21. +1 terrific service and quality tracks. Tried the WAV downloads once but the files were up to 50mb , 320 bit mP3's do the job fine IMO
  22. I have the DN-X500 and it's terrific, has every function you could possibly need, I use it with the DN-Hc4500 midi controller & virtual DJ and it's an absolute pleasure to DJ with, I have the denon cd drawer too just in case my laptop goes mid gig. Rob is right about the depth, fits perfectly into this however
  23. Cheers Ian, can get the K12's for about 1200 euro because I can get the VAT removed, I can't do this if I import from the UK so considering I only have a car I will probably go with the QSC speakers purely for space reasons, would love the RCF's and it's a great deal but the K12's would be more practical for my situation, good to know they have plenty of bass because that is something that would worry me, I have put my JBL eons up for sale on the net and to my surprise I have had alot of interest, looks like I will be able to get 700-800 euro for them so it won't be too costly to upgrade. Will
  24. Thanks guys, got this offer by email yesterday (I'm on htfr's mailing list), looks like a clearance sale or something so i would guess they are in stock, they'd hardly be sending the offer out by email otherwise, and yes they are 23kg but the way I'm looking at it is that I won't need a sub for 99% of my gigs with a set of these. However I have requested a best price on QSC K12's from a few suppliers in ireland and am waiting for them to come back to me, I had my heart set on the K12's but not sure what to do now
  25. Anybody looking for some good quality powered cabs clicky I know it may be unusual to call 999 pounds a bargain but they are some quality speakers, been mulling over investing in new speakers myself and this has really caught my attention.
