They're not Technics

My opinion is that no other deck is worth buying as it's not rider friendly (but i'm more in the rental game so it's more relevant). Stanton and Vestax have got close but I'm still not keen and neither are many DJ's.

Loud clubs are a real test of a deck. I've not seen the turntable to comment but If they're around £400 the pair I'd go for 2nd hand SL1200/1210 EVERY TIME! ;)

Also bear in mind, if you did ever want to hire them out, people would probably refuse to use them.

They will also probably not hold their value very well - Technics, once 2nd hand, tend to retain a 2nd hand value forever

At £260 for a PAIR of direct drive decks...including STANTON carts - well, it doesnt get much cheaper than that.

Feature wise...

High torque direct drive motor

Height adjustable tone arm 0-6mm

Anti-skate control

Quartz lock

Dual start/stop buttons

Built in target light

Include Stanton© cartridges

33, 45 & 78rpm selectable

...Are all quite nice

±10, 20, & 30% pitch shift selectable (shame that there isnt a lower setting too, for accuracy eg: 4% / 8%)

Master Tempo (I've heard that this isnt much cop - distorts sounds even during small pitch adjustments, especially into the minus range)

Phono & Line output selectable

Adjustable brake speed

Pitch bend buttons (handy - you've got the option then to use buttons like on future CD-decks, or the platter)

I've no real views on the features of:

LCD display of BPM/pitch

Digital BPM counter

Digital BNC output

If these are the same as the ones that Stanton themselves were selling under their badge, then watch out too, for feedback problems if you're in feedback prone areas eg: performing on a hollow stage with bass cabs etc.

But remember the Soundlab DLP3's, they were direct drive and flippin terrible and next to useless in a loud environment. Having all of the 'spec' boxes ticked doesn't necessarily mean it's any good.

I may well end up being surprised about them but I very much doubt it.

there are lots of people selling off used mk2 1200s 1210s all over the place.

im sure you could find a set after xmas when sant brings somone new denon 3500s and they dont have room for the 1210s any more.

also you find a lot of people selling up to pay there credit card bills in the new year.

so keep your eyes open and search the small ads in the local papers and ebay.
