bdeyes 0
when a amp puts out say 500W per side @ 4 ohms, and you daisy chain 2 8 ohm speakers to get the resistance down to 4 ohms. Does each speaker receive 500W or do they get 250W each?
spinner 0
The load is shared between them.
High Fidelity 0
Yep! They get 250W each. A point worth remembering too, is that 2 x 8ohm 12" speakers will often sound louder than one 15" 4ohm speaker because they're moving more air. Quitting Smoking & Drinking doesn't make you live longer It just feels like it.
ChrisPointon 0
Remember that your choice of speaker will also determine how much volume you get for your watts http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif . When choosing speakers, it is important to get the highest SPL rating that you can afford, these are often displayed as db/m or db figures in the specification. This figure basically shows how efficient the speaker is at turning voltage into volume. So in principle, a speaker with a 101db/m rating will sound louder from a 250W Amplifier, than a speaker with a 93db/m rating run from the same amplifier!. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

Or in another way, the lower sensitivity driver will 117db with 250w input. The higher sensitivity driver will do it with only ~45w input power and go on to a peak of 125db with 250w!!
