My name is Jerry AND I AM A DJ!........ there, I have admitted it. I feel much better now. Hello guys and gals, I just thought that I would introduce myself. I have been Djing since 1982 and I am one of the few DJ's who still uses 7" singles!

So that means that I carry LOADS and LOADS of heavy boxes, so who needs the Gym! I would love to just carry a laptop but I'm afraid that I don't trust that there new fangled technology (which doesn't exactly help me in my day time job as a telephone engineer!)

If any of you kind people could point me in the right direction as to how to update my singles (which date back to the mid 50s), I would love you long time! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Hi and welcome along to our little corner of the internet.

I would hold off moving anything to a laptop at the moment, since within the UK it's been confirmed illegal under copyright laws to back up original material onto MP3 formats, even where you own the original. There is hope in the form of a Digital Dj Licence which has just been introduced, but it's far from being straightforward and doesn't cover all of the DJ's obligations entirely, so I would advise waiting a bit until it all gets clarified before making a decision and spending ££ on software and laptops http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif .

If you want to find out more, then just do a search for Digital Dj Licence using the search facility above.

Welcome http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/042.gif

I tend to download tracks from .....*

You can choose the quality (I usually go for 192kbs) and the price is very reasonable. The other advantage is that they get dropped into relevent folders sorted by artist and then album which makes it easy to manage.

*Mod note: Not sure this site is a legal MP3 one (based in Russia) even though you do pay for them.

Nope its not legal , infact I dont know of any sight in Russia that is legal even if they do charge money, as there are no digital copyright laws.

as soon as the file leaves Russia you are breaking the law.....

Sadly they dont make this very clear on there web sites and millions of people are playing priated music thinking that there money has been well spent and the artist is getting his or her bit.

Hi Foureyes!

Nice to hear you still use vinyl!

My DJ-ing 'career' coughed and spluttered into something akin to life in 1982 also, so I understand the amount of black stuff you must have acquired over the years.

I don't DJ at the moment, but up until I ceased I was taking some vinyl along with me, but was trying hard to replace the more commonly used classics with CD versions simply because of the feedback problem I started to experience. A preference for high sound levels didn't help........

Anyhow, welcome to the fray. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
