Mobile DJ CD's?!?

i am looking on ebay to start my cd collection

 

can any1 recomend any good cds that are a must have for any mobile dj??

A good place to start is the Now album. They have most of the popular songs from mid-late 80's up to present day. I would recomend a set for any DJ.

You can pick up second hand Now albums from ebay or amazon.

Be warned, the older the now album is, the more expensive they get.

 

Also now only goes back to a certain number on CD, around 10 I think (but not too sure).

 

Take a look on some specialised DJ website, and have a look at there 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's collections.

 

Other than that just keep an eye out for 'greatest hits' and good CD compliations from supermarkets and HMV etc.

He offers Ex-Jukebox CD's for very competitive prices, and currently has a lot of Now Thats What I call Music CD's and older music Compilations which may be of help building up a collection.

 

I'm not a fan of the Specialist DJ Only Music CD Routes. Companies like Mastermix and DMC may offer compilations with popular tracks and an easy method of building a collection for those who haven't the time or inclination to shop around but DJ Only CD's come at a premium price. I took some time doing the price comparisons between DJ Only Product and Music CD's on the High Street, and based on my requirements, I saved £106 by avoiding the DJ only Hype. After all "I will survive" is the same track, whether it is played from a £15.00 DJ Only CD or a £8.99 Sounds of the 70's CD from the high street, the only difference is the price! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

A good couple to have are 'Pop Party 1, 2, and 3' these have all the party cheese you would want if you are going into that sort of market. Also Now Dance is a three CD goody. I would also go along with the Now CD's

When I was building up my collection before starting I bought Now albums off Ebay. I also found Woolworths were good for cheap box sets for different Genre's and buy one get one free (or half price). Look around for sales to build up some older stuff cheaply.

I picked up a huge amount of CD singles and albums from car boot sales when re-starting......... The prices were remarkably cheap and I ended up buying some CD singles for 10p and selling them on e-bay for £10 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

 

The rest of my back catalogue came from e-bay. and the local record shop. Have to agree with Chris the DJ only record route seemed a very expensive option when I was shopping around.

Go to your local supermarket, actually forget local any supermarket and get rummaging in there bargain bins, free CD's in newspapers, i have got some of my best albums in this way..

Just echo-ing what other people have said. Get the NOW albums (a DJ's goldmine!), and some 70's, 80's, and 90's compilation albums. that money you have that we talked about..spend some of it on music! A DJ can't talk for the whole gig!!!! Also, i recommend the R&B yearbook which is out in HMV now. has some very good tunes on it! Will go down a treat. If you want to specialise in a particular area of music, then obviously concentrate on buying that! And when looking for singles, try to find the ones with only 2 songs on there, cos you can guarantee to pay less than £2 for those.

 

It's worth steering clear of artist albums as most often there are only one or two good songs on there, and then thats a waste of £12/£13.

Ebay is often my first choice. You can get some real bargains on there.But watch out for copies.

 

Also supermarket bargain bins are good too.

I concur with all the comments so far, but I'd recommend for some of the more recent dance/house music, you take a look at the 4CD box sets that go under the branding of: "The Number 1..." (eg The Number 1 Funky House Album or The Number 1 Old Skool Album). These albums can be bought for as little as £7.99 - not bad for 4CDs.

 

I've got a few of these albums, some of which are due to be delivered by HMV any day now. As for cheap CDs from the supermarkets, watch out for this term on the back of the CD: "...re-recorded by one or more members of the original band."

 

I usually find that these CDs are of a poorer quality to the original versions.

 

Other than that, have a good look through the ex-jukebox CDs that CP made reference to. Mention this forum and you will get free delivery!

without a doubt a lot of mine came from car boot sales youll find double albums for £1.50but i would make a decent offer for all the cds theyve got ive picked up 20 to 30 cds for £15 that will soon get your back collection upespecially old now and hits cds.youll get them even cheaper that way but make sure they have the cds in the case and they are not copies got caught like that so talking from experience you wont get new cds like that so go round all the shops for newer ones in the sales .
