DJ Geco 0
I started off about 12 months ago using 2x Deltec 12" 300w cabs, 2x Deltec 600w Bins and a C Audio 900w Amp. I now use the same 2 Deltec Bins, 2x Deltec GX15's 15" 600w full range cabs powered by a QSC PLX3402 amp. On larger shows i still use the same 12x cabs i started with in addition to the 4 other cabs. Although i have now had the 12s upgraded to 500w a cab! And they are still powered by the C Audio Amp! Aren't you supposed to replace your speakers every 5 years or something? As they gradually begin to sound worse than new speakers? Bubbles
mick 0
Just renewed my speakers last year with Alto PS4HA's active ones so my old McGreggor amp and speakers are only used as backup. However at 20 years old they work perfectly and I am sure they will last many years yet - mick
Gary 0
My Ramsa (Panasonic/Technics) speakers and amps are somewhere between 12 & 15 years old (I only kept the receipts 8 years). Still performing perfectly, and still very punchy, despite being "teenagers" and dispite being knocked over a few times both while innert and whilst running. I attribute the fact that the speakers have lasted so well is that I've always treated the RMS figures, as listed in plain, straightforward, black'n'white English on the rear of each and every speaker as the absolute "not to be exceeded" figure - rather than picking and choosing bits and pieces of info from various sources, which may, or may not apply to my particular speakers. I'm sure speakers do have an absolute, definitive life expectancy but not as brief as 5 years (although its about 20 minutes when hired out to Max Power readers). Some friends of mine have recently had to ditch 2 pairs of 25 year old speakers where the polypropalyne (sp?) suspension around the drivers had simply become so brittle that it started to flake and then eventually disintegrate, in the last few months. DJ Marky Marc 0
So it seems that spending some money on quality speakers and looking after them means you can keep them for 10 years easy... I wonder how many of the people with systems less than 3 years old are planning on keeping theres as long as Gary or saved money thinking they wanted to upgrade at a later date... <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>

RobbieD 0
I've had my Bose 802's around 20 years and they still sound as good as the day I brought them.
Kingy 0
Over the past 26 years I have had sooooo many pairs of speakers, only moving on when something @nice@ catches my eye (or ears rather!!). I currently swear by my HK rigs, I love em. Granted they are not cheap, but Quality shines through.

RichardP 0
I love my JBL M330's - bought in 1991 - it'd be tough to part with them. My memory might be, er, playing tricks on me, but I think it was this speaker range that kickstarted the compact trapezoidal design trend. I'd quite like to audition the JBL MPro 412 / 415, as I guess they'd be good successors, especially as I have a 418 sub, though I can't seem to find a retailer who has any! And the current & previous national distributors are clueless as to where I can check them out either. I think I quite like the Martin Blackline series - on holiday I visited an apres-ski place which had lots of either F12's or F15's fitted all over and the output was lively and punchy, with nice articulate HF, I funk to meself. I'll have to make a point of checking out the HK stuff. Shame that PLASA hardly has any speaker demo'ing any more - don't know whether that's due to restrictions or what. Got to hear some real beauts in the 'old days' (not so many years ago). Anyone have anything good bad or ugly to say about Nexo PS systems? or for that matter any of the aforementioned models? - Richard <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>

Im led to believe the cone's are made by fane or h+h they have massive magnets on the cones and weigh a ton <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Andy Westcott 0
Since 1982 I have only used two speaker systems, both home built. (Sorry, no photos of the first set available yet.) The first set were based around 4 X HH 100 watt 15 inch units, two in each bass unit with tweeters and these served me well and survived one heck of a caning until in 1999, when I built my 'Millennium' system, which is what I use now. Bit heavy and bulky, but they sound superb to me, and were designed for that regardless of the resulting size or weight. I've posted about this system ad nauseam elsewhere here, so here's the only picture of them I've got on the computer at the moment for those interested: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/andyspatch/hosting/soundsystem.jpg For smaller gigs, I'm planning to rehouse my old HH units into compact 90 litre cabinets for better portability, so they still live on! 24 years for the same drivers - is that a forum record of some kind? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
Digital discos 0
Just upgraded my Mackie/Gemini setup to some Martin Audio Blacklines...

Digital discos 0
Just got a pair of F15 tops at the moment....Will be running then off a C Audio SR 606 hopefully. Then at a later stage I will probably add some adlib or martin audio bins and a m3 martin controller. Must say these F15 tops have to be the most fantastic sounding cabs I have ever heard. Musical perfection imho. Haven't tried them at a gig yet so will hold back too much judgement. They have been used about 3 times and I bought them at not much more than a pair of KAM IMS speakers - now that is a bargain!
RichardP 0
That really does sound like a bargain. I was quite impressed with F15s (or were they F12s, I never found out) which were fitted out in a bar on holiday, superb. My god the SR606 that is one beast of an Amp... have you got a credit account with a chiropractor??? With your forum moniker I thought you'd have a nice slim 1U, 10kg amp chucking out 500 a side http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
yogibear 0
Ive still got my origional pair Peavey HiSYS 2 which I think ive had 8 years. Ive got 4 pairs of them now 4 peavey 215xt bass bins. I never blown a single driver in any of them and I do push them pretty hard. I swear by the Peavey 15" drivers. Amps wise im using a PV2600, and an PV1500 which are both 4 years old. Also a Peavey 800S which is 8 years old. Also using an Aolong M10 power amp which I blew last week, only 6months old :-(. I find the peavey amps last well if flight cased. The cabs are great in my opinion. The only thing with them is that the carpeting comes off after a bit and can make them look a bit scruffy, other than that solid as a rock.
orbitdisco 0
Still using my Hisys 2's have had them 10yrs and they were used when I got them. Never blown a driver, got a pair of Hisys 1's as well of the same vintage. Like Yogi I also use the PV1500 amps and can recommend them.
