I wonder if anyone else has had a similar, infuriating experience?

A few years ago I came across a website for an operator in roughly the same region as me who had lifted large chunks of original copy from my website and used it on his own.

On another occasion I found 2 other websites containing original pictures of my equipment taken at my gigs but passed off as theirs.

In each case I had to threaten legal action to remedy the situation.

Before that I chanced to come across some promotional material, in the form of a letter, from a local operator. Virtually all of the copy was a straight lift from the brochure I was using at the time!

Because of that I occasionally check this operator's website. When I looked at it today you can imagine my surprise when I read his biography page - it is identical to that of an associate of mine who is twice the age of the person in question and is a straight lift from my associate's website!!

One transgression may be forgiven but two? I don't think so.

Needless to say a cease and desist request has been made.

I suppose it could be construed as flattering to have someone copy one's own ideas. However copying a life history suggests, perhaps, a Walter Mitty character.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yep, had a guy take my website word for word, then change Andy's Disco Soundz to his disco name, then uploaded it !

Called him and asked for his webman's telephone number after telling him how good his website was before being told he did it, I then said I was going to send him a bill for 50% of the total webist bill because he had copied all of it, he became very quiet and removed it within a couple of days.

.....but what do I know ?

It's amazing he didn't realise he could get caught at it.

We all nick ideas from each other but taking whole websites is just silly. I mean i work for a big mobile company and the amount of times you read that one of the other networks is promoting somthing that the network i work for has been doing for months.

The bit about nicking other peoples pictures amuses me. What do they say when they arrive and there setup looks different "sorry its the light in them pictures"

If people are nicking you site then you must be doing something right http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif

A couple of years ago I was checking out other DJ sites and came across my own where only the names had been changed http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif It was a copy of my 1st site but as I had completely revamped mine since then and the guy was a few hundred miles away I just left it.

just checking but if you have a flash website people arent able to nick it or even right click on your page....

stops most people staeling images unless they do a print screen...

is there a legal way of disabling that button like through a java script?

Disabling right-click through JavaScript is pretty pointless. All you have to do is disable active scripting, and you can rightclick all you like! Try it.

I'm in the SteveMitchell class here - there's nothing on my website yet worth nicking!

Have a look!

Hot Fusion

I do sympathise with those of you who have suffered this form of theft though. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to the site to make the content un-copyable. If it's viewable, there is always a way to copy the code and images.

I suppose legal recourse is the only option to stop these asses.
