Saturday 6yr old party - a hoot. Not many kids but loads of Mums. I did the party games and then the kids started to play with the new toys so the mums started to dance the afternoon away it was great fun we did all the cheesy dances. I also got another booking for a mums party with games. Do you think this could be a new trend - Kids parties for adults. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif

Tuesday - short karaoke (2 hour)

Wednesday - Afternoon Karaoke

Thursday - Afternoon Karaoke

Friday - Knew that it was going to be busy at the residency, so for a change I dusted down the larger sound set-up and went active for the first time since 1999.

The audience verdict was pretty good. Comments on the crystal sound quality an understatement!

I'll be dusting down the keyboards next! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fright.gif Must stop taking this seriously!

Saturday - Cancelled. Family night in - excellent! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Sunday - http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif off the neighbours with the hammer for a couple of hours. Not intentional, but they will be http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif off by the time I'm finished.

Saturday double birthday at the usual venue. Slightly different as a rock band was playing from 8-30 to 10 then we started.

Band are fairly new to the scene and were mostly punk/ metal/ chart rock. Didn't go down to well with the regulars who kept asking when we were on. I think it was the wrong sound for the venue. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif

Started up at 10 and played virtually pure cheese to a packed floor until 1-30. Even managed to keep the band's followers dancing and, having taken their gear home (local) they came back too. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Away at 2-15 leaving a very happy landlady and a number of the visiting crowd vowing to be back in 3 weeks for our next show. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

Apparently we were "fantastic" ............................ I call it knowing your cheese. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif

Room only available after 6pm, so was cutting it close to start at 7pm, then I had the running prder faxed through

Guests arriving at 6.30pm http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif

Anyway long story short, got to the venue, and knew the new manager so moaned a little, and he did back !

Woohoo! just got in from a wicked wedding, another of those 'play cheese for first hour, then break out the house' gigs, again a few DJs in the wedding party.

Request with best reaction: Layo & Wushwacka! - Love story (Tim Deluxe 'finally' club mix) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/notworthy.gif

And someone asked for Teamsters - Feels Like Love (Morjac Club mix) from the Azuli Miami 2006 cd http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Don't get House requests either, but have just taken a booking for a wedding where they want a mixture of cheesey party and Indie.

I have asked for a favourites list for the Indie, but also got a verbal agreement that if it drops like a lead balloon, I will use my judgement on how much to play. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Had fun last night, 40th Birthday @ a local Golf Club.

Birthday boy loves his Rod Stewart and his wife booked a really good soundalike:

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/672/dscf0014rod2uh.jpg

We only played for an hour and a half but it was the first time in ages that we have worked at a venue where they turned all the lights off!

Created a much better atmosphere and I love a party with a happy atmosphere... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

His. He had one either side.

They looked good as a colour wash and they also "flashed" in sound 2 light mode.

What you can't see is the sweat pouring off him from the heat they give out!

As I have a passion for house like a few other DJs here on DJU, I get booked for it. It's one of the niche markets I exploit with pleasure alongside all the normal work we all do. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

Totally exhausted after this weekend - mainly due to lack of sleep.

Saturday was straight forward, but as Brian and Steve have given away, Sunday in a big blue box in Croydon was rather more involved.

With the help of Pete (aka Musicbox), we spent over two hours setting up my normal system, plus additional lighting above the dancefloor (making a total of 11 DMX effects), remote delay fill in speakers to cover a potential 700-800 strong crowd, additional speakers and basic lighting for a small stage off to one side, plus also supplied two mirror balls with colour changer spots, and several par cans for mood lighting around the venue.

A great night with a busy dance floor and some nice eye candy. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

It then took us over 2 hours to de-rig, and I eventually got to sleep at 5am on Monday morning. But with children around, sleeping late the next day was not an option!

I can't thank Pete enough for his assistance. He is a great guy, and very hard working. And thanks also to Steve Jam for passing the work my way.

Saturday - 2 birthdays and 4 hen nights and 1 stag night. Reasonably good crowd down at the G.P. until last half hour.

Dancing on tables is activley encouraged by manager. Unfortunatley some young lads were doing said activity on a table which had recently been vacated leaving lots of bottles, glasses and jugs on. the table started jiggling about (large round piece of wood laid ontop of smaller table) a few glasses fell off and smashed. I tried to attract the attention of some of the staff - no luck - left DJ booth to try and track someone - no luck. Song finished boys got off. I still put a call out asking for manager to come to the DJ booth to get the stuff cleared - no luck. Someone asked for Predict a Riot and I foolishly put it on (hindsight is a wonderful thing) and the aformentioned boys got back on table and were jumping away - needless to say nearly everything on the table was now smashed on the floor. In the end I felt I had no option but to turn the music right down and ask for someone to come and clear the mess (this was right by the dance floor) before someone hurt themselves. The staff came and cleared it all away with great efficiency. I put something slightly less hyper on and tried to keep it up beat but not quite so riotous for the last half hour. There were cheers of one more at the end so I played Insomnia and made sure I packed up sharpish at the end of that or I would never have got away. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I might not have taken the right action but I don't think I am in a position to go and tell two blokes to get off the table when I can see damage and destuction waiting to happen. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif
