4ft Disco Stand Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have been looking at buying one of these stands, can anyone tell me how easy they are to put up and take down for gigs and the approximate sizes of the components once they are broken down.

Looking at item "Giraffe G106 4ft Disco Stand" from

http://www.discoworlduk.com/index.html?lan...&target=d7.html

Curious as my car isn't particularly big.

Thanks in anticipation of replies.

Eddie

Hi Eddie

I use on of these 4ft stands like this Here I bought mine of a friend and fits nicely in my car. These are great stands and look more proffesional instead of using a standard table. I would advice in getting some sort of bag made for the 10 poles and structures you get with it. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

I use a similar one to this one Giraffe stand via ebay

They are not difficult to put up as my 10 year old daughter puts it up for me. I have the legs, top and side pole tied together with bungee straps. I tried a bag but the ends soon made there way out the bottom. They work on the market stall principle of slotting together.

The fella that sold me mine did say it could hold the weight of 2 elephants but how does he know http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

I hope this is of help

I would definatley recomend spending that little bit extra on the ultimax version.. they're far better quality and modular so you can get replacement parts, add a longer lighting gantry etc. etc.

I have used both Giraffe and Ultimax, and as far as I can see the Ultimax is the more sturdy and simpler to use, less parts too as the cross members are in frames. Incidentally, my Giraffe stand is really wobbly - I did buy it second hand so can anyone tell me if there should be any tensioners or something to secure the crosspoles in the side pieces?

Hi All,

Just advising on the deck stands. For a Dj it really is the best money you'll ever spend: -

1, If you are working at a venue with no tables you need a deck stand.

2, Look more professional than a table

3, Easy to Set-Up and Take Down

I would personally recommend the ultimax version having used the giraffe stand and the ultimax one, (the giraffe one is very wobbly once set up)

Ultimax comes in different lengths 1.2m (4 foot) 1.6m & 1.7m the top bar is the same i think regardless of the worktable length.

Only one word of advise if you are going down the route of the ultimax coniser the dual braced cross bar especially if you are hanging relitevely heavy lighting effects on there. (Also to make life easy for yourself pre wire the overhead bar). I tied IEC leads with tie wraps onto the bar, took the all back to a connector box and then i have one lead going up the vertical section of the stand and hey presto once plugged in power to whole bar. Makes setting up easier.

Hope this helps slightly and Goodluck. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yep the giraffe is wobbly http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif . I suppose it depends on how many lights you are planning to put on it and the weight of them. I would recommend you purchase a bag for your stand. I bought mine from Ian Stewart (he comes on here).

  • 2 weeks later...

Giraffe's have long wobbly necks so what do you expect!! (sorry http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif )

I have Ultimax as well a bit dearer but far superior. The Giraffe is ok . I have screwed the shelves (I made a second one for the bottom rack) to the cross bars and this has made it much more stable. I also use the small 'ratchet' type tie downs to hold it all together when transporting it.

I've used both too, Ultimax is more sturdy, but because of the one piece crossmembers it doesn't break down as small as the giraffe.

There is a bag available for the whole giraffe stand but it is very bulky, you can fit all the poles & crossmembers in a skytec speaker stand bag, the legs would have to travel seperately.
