I'm off to a wedding this Saturday - nothing new there then.

Except, I'm going there as a guest, with a speech to do, and all that - rather than the DJ - and I have to say, upon hearing about the venue, and the "Extra's", I'm glad I'm not the DJ.

The venue is nice, however, its one of those venues with several separate rooms, the function room is one room, the buffet is served in another room, the bar is another, and they've got a romantically illuminated garden which (you've guessed it) can be accessed from both the function room, and the bar.

Weather for the weekend in that area is supposed to be warm and dry...

The bride has also booked a mobile casino to run (in the other function room) from 6pm (an hour after the end of the wedding breakfast) until 10pm - buffet in another room 9 til 10.

Now, by this time it'll be dark outside... perfect time for the relaxing-in-the-garden guests to finally come inside, with the only remaining entertainment being:

1) The Disco

2) See whats left over on the buffet that I can sneak off with for the dog tomorrow.

Perfect time to come inside? Well, it would be....except that the field about 400 metres away from the venue, which is usually unused for 50 weeks of the year, is holding a summer fayre type event there this weekend and will be culminating in a 30 minute firework spectacular from 10:15... wouldnt wanna miss that, would they? "free" fireworks for the guests... and have you ever known a firework display start on-time?

So...11ish til 12... Disco time. (eventually).

Glad its not me doing it? Its got the potential of being one of those - "see no-one until "Last orders" then try and cope with 4 hours worth of requests, all being made in the last 45 minutes" type nights... Would any of us welcome that sort of a gig?

Right, what is it I've gotta remember to avoid doing....? oh yeah..."Can I 'ave a go mate, I'm a DJ too?", "Some of your lightscreen bulbs are duff", "we cant hear you at the far end of the garden", "Play xxxx, it always gets everyone dancing, really, trust me".

I am so used to working at weddings that when I attend as a guest I get bored pretty quickly especially if the disco/band is so loud that I can't have a conversation with anyone.

Having said that I would look forward to attending this one as a guest because there's more to do. Casino, Garden, Fireworks would, I'm afraid, all take precedence over the disco for me however I would like to hear some music whilst in the garden and to accompany the fireworks.

Enjoy the night http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

I would appreciate Mr Harris not mentioning the venue -under any circumstances- until after the weekend has passed.

Sounds like an ideal gig to me, good ole rest instead of usual manic. Whilst everyone is watching fireworks would be an ideal time for DJ to rape said buffet.

I can see it being very boring though.... hope the DJ has a laptop with a few films on it!
