Candi Staton - You've Got The Love

Recommended Posts

I've heard this tune, hundreds of times, i like it, i think its a cracker, but i've only every heard the version associated with The Source & Candi Staton, never the original version by Candi Staton on her own.

Does anyone know what it is like,

The original was more like a disco track with cowbells in it http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif I think it was released around 1986?

The bootleg remix that most people now know actually used the bassline from a wicked Chicago house track by Jamie Principle called Your Love. Your Love was an absolutely classic piece of house and well worth looking for if you've never heard it; a much better record than The Source & Candi Staton IMO.

http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/notworthy.gif Gotta agree with Eskie there, pure raw house. I think it's on a Channel 4 compilation I have called The History of House.

There have been loads of reissues and remixes of Candi Staton/The Source, I think I have seen at least 4 in recent years, well worth a listen.

You'll find this track, along with a number of others from the period, on the Prism album "Young Hearts Run Free".

It's cheap to buy and available from Amazon for as little as 2 quid.

This poor track has been mucked around with time and time again, sometimes with good results, sometimes not.

I use a DMC/Steve Anderson/Brothers in Rhythm) remix of the track which has a great summery feel to it.(like most Steve Anderson tracks)

The other track that seems to get regularly remixed almost as much - was that "I wanna give you devotion".

Eskie knows his stuff! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/notworthy.gif

I've only heard the original a couple of times, but it is very "disco".

I don't remember ever seeing the original on 12". Was it only an album track?

The version with the Source has been in the charts on 3 occasions.

Do a search for 'You got the love' here

I must say, I do like the newer version the most http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

Newer version.... there have been about half a dozen versions over the past 15 years!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

One very recently as well, a bit more tranquil than the past couple of makeovers....

I've always thought it was Frankie Knuckles who did "Your Love", you learn something new everyday.

I'd guess the reason for that is cos the record was originally released as Frankie Knuckles presents Jamie Principle - Your Love; because at the time Knuckles was the main man on the Chicago house scene and anything he released sold by the bucket load and so sometimes he would lend his name to a song which was enough to sell a few thousand more copies! but he had no input whatsoever in to the Jamie Principle track.

One reason for this remake was possibly the release of the excellent lys and gigi remix of 'your love' which came out in 2003.

It pops up as a remix on the latest version, with the vocal over the top, retitled "You Got The Love (lys and gigi remix)"
