At the end of the day no pc is gonna replace us real 'entertainers' and the punters don't care where its coming from as long as the 'toons' are good!

Exactly. It makes me laugh when some dj's turn their noses up at dj's who use pc's and sometimes even at guys who use cd's. As long as you've got the dancefloor full it doesn't matter what you're using.

Those mugs can carry on being 'proper dj's' and playing their vinyl, which is gonna deteriorate over time and consequently the quality will be poorer and poorer the more it's played, whereas my mp3's will sound exactly the same every time quality wise, and I can use my vinyl for my own personal use at home when I want to and keep it in pristine condition http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Depending on what system you're using mixing on mp3's is no different to mixing on cd's. The system I use has a remote control unit which is exactly the same as a cd remote control unit, and so i'm able to slow the track down, speed it up etc in the same way. So there was no transition to make as far as mixing went.

I was speaking to a couple of DJ's today with regard to PC DJ'ing. I was advised by one of them to get a desktop system. As he finds he has had problems with laptops overheating and/or burning out in the past. Obviously due to no fan in the case as a desktop has. I may go for a desktop sytem and put it in a flight case. You get a lot more for your money with a desktop rather than a laptop.

Steve go for what you feel is best, at the end of the day its 'your' setup. My only comment would be how many businessmen do you hear of who's laptop has overheated or burntout??? They are designed to do what a desktop does in a mobile environment, and I think if you ask around the forum or anywhere you won't find anybody with expereience of the problems you have mentioned. I would say its a bit of 'sour grapes' from other DJ's now you are moving forwards in technology. By all means go for a desktop and flightcases if you think best, but whilst your packing away I'll put my laptop in its aluminium briefcase and be out the door on my way home! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As much RAM as possible minimum 128meg, Any reasonable processor will do, and don't be swayed by Pentium its NOT essential and some of the Athlons are just as good. A decent sized hard drive means you won't need to upgrade it too soon, and screen wise as big as you can afford cos working from it at a gig a small screen is a nightmare! Other than that Bobs your uncle

Have fun
