ian . 0
Most of the karaoke discs I've seen are recordings by "sound alikes". Made to sound like the original, but not. Question is - are there any karaoke discs that feature original music and backing by the original artists? <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
paula 0
I've never come across any, but why worry about the vocals, let the singers do da do! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
Jimbo55 0
Most if not all karaoke discs are performed by 'session' or 'in house' Musicans. I personally know of non that have been produced by the original Musicans. There does however, seem to be a lot of Karaoke tracks laid down on some of the CD singles released over the last few years. You get what you pay for, stick to the versions made by.. Sunfly. Zoom. Sing To The World. Sound Choice. Easy Karaoke. Jimbo Digital Fusion Entertainments Bose L1 system user. RobbieD 0
As Jimbo says, some CD singles (and evenmore 12" singles) contain instrumental versions which could be used for Karaoke. (It just happens that I have the Cd single of Mary J Blige's "Be Without You" in front of me right now and that contains an instrumental version.) But: 1) You won't have lyrics 2) This is a very expensive way to build a collection
transeurope 0
This used to REALLY annoy me back in the 80s. While some karaoke companies produce all klonkers, even the "good" companies do some absolutely fiendish things to the songs, cut out whole verses, etc etc. Well, unfortunately the answer is that the music industry is in the thrall of the "Big 5" record companies. The Big 5 have some extremely strange attitudes to their business, although they would say that it works, so they must be right. Part of this is that they market via singers. They do not at all welcome karaoke. They barely tolerate the whole idea of a DJ, who they basically view as someone making money out of their promotion. DJs often say that they make a song popular, but that is rarely true, let's face it. If they barely tolerate DJs they positively detest karaoke companies. Karaoke companies operate on the fringes of the law themselves, it is a bit ironic to see some UK ones kicking and screaming about licences for ripping CDGs etc. In the US action has already been taken by the record companies against karaoke companies. In the UK the law is more favorable to karaoke disc companies, but the whole thrust of the globalization of copyright enforcement we are seeing means that they are in ifffy water also. Record companies, even British ones, hate karaoke companies. Check out what is happening in the US if you don't believe me. There is no way they would ever allow their source material to a karaoke company.
spudcooper 0
It All Comes Down To Money... To Get The Orignal Artist Or The Rights To The Music Would Cost Much More Than Making There Own Version. Theres Nothing We Can Do.
D.X 0
Record companies are scum, I cant express what I think of them without violating the guidelines so I'll leave it at that. As far as I can see, Karaoke does their business no harm. A few drunk girls in some back street pub blasting out Simply The Best or I Will Survive isn't going to damage Sony/EMI/BMG's profits much is it. Infact, with the popularity of Karaoke around various parts of the world if they sold official Karaoke discs they could make a fortune. Then the vocals might actually be correct. Even the Sunfly discs have some shocking errors on them.
Paul Smith 0
I don't think it matters too much - karaoke is just a bit of fun http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif and if the person is a good singer nobody notices the slightly dodgy background vocals or missing instrument. If they're a bad singer then no amount of professionally produced backing music is gonna help.
