Due to my impending holiday (tomorrow) and the fact that I usually refresh my wardrobe before going on holiday I went into the City Centre today to purchase some new clothes.

Whilst in there I spotted this rather fetching (or so I thought) black shirt with a flame effect around the sleeves and the collar as well as around the lower section of the shirt. I thought it would be just the business for those slightly less than formal nights where a shirt without a tie can be worn.

On getting these shirts home (I bought two) my wife was horrified at my lack of taste, as were both my daughters when they finally saw them. They know that I wear glasses as a matter of course and suspected I had left them at home. In fact my youngest (20.75 years) couldn't stop laughing for about half an hour.

The only person who thought the shirt was alright was Gary Cee, which begs the question is it a man thing?

Do we really know what we are doing when selecting clothes?

Picture below, what do the rest of you think? and, after you stop laughing, throwing up or crying in pity at my obvious lack of taste your reasons for the emotions felt.

I need help, desperately.

Understated is always best in my opinion.

Plain black would be fine - with long sleeves.

Oh! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/014.gif

Live and learn then.

Just looking to bring some colour into the more relaxed type parties 18s and 21s.

if it was being worn by a team of Ice Hockey players about to do battle.

I can't think of anywhere else it would have a shred of credibility.

About the only real point you can make about clothing is that if you do not have a "warm" face then you shouldn't wear "warm" colours and vice versa.

After that it's all cultural, both national cultures and subcultures, like hippyism. Wearing feathers to an OPEC meeting is not a good idea, wearing a Saville Row suit to a peacecamp is probably just as bad.

Therefore, if you are starting to go grey, or have blonde hair, then the shirt will look ridiculous.

The reason women wear such a variety of colour compared to men is that they wear makeup.

Politicians throughout the world are now paying a lot more attention to appearance and most try to be "upbeat and jivey" in their clothing occasionally, they also have to adopt clothing that doesn't suit them for political reasons. Promote multiculturalism by wearing Sikh headgear, promote Intel by wearing the purple suit that is the trademark of the company's workers.

Nowadays there is regularly some minor scandal in each country about some male politician spending EUR50m on makeup or something fanciful like that.

When the tabloid headlines are broken down to reality, it turns out that the politician will have a makeup artist on tour with them for certain occasions. A for instance: they go visit an Intel factory, they put on the purple suit that Intel workers wear for a photo op. they look strangely perfect, while everyone around them looks a bit washed out.

That's makeup.

So like I say, a lot of peoples' reactions to male clothing are down to a colour clash.

I think that that shirt would be at a disco.

As a raffle prize.

The only discos that I dont wear a dinner jacket to are the occasional (5 or 6 per annum) kids do's that I do, in which cases, its on with the Hackett top (and neck strap'd whistle for crowd control).

But shirt wise, that shirt might be ok for pub gigs, especially BBQ's and indeed any crowded (outdoor) event where several people may need to be able to find the roving DJ in a hurry, in a crowd - and that shirt should do that admirably. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Its a shirt of real opportunity.

For example, I can assure you, if you were to walk down a street in Hollywood wearing that shirt, you'd be signed up in no time as a stunt-man.

Because, lets face it, you'd have to be feckin' brave to walk down a street in that. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif
