It was un-earthed a few months ago that the CDJ-100 was only shipped from Pioneer with a domestic (home use only) warranty. The Warranty situation on the CDJ-200 hasnt been clarifying yet here on DJU, although Pioneers website does describe the CDJ-200 as "the CDJ-200 will appeal to the serious home DJ" http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif

The CDJ-200 does have rudimentary MP3 playback and basic DJ manipulation of MP3s that are burnt to a CD, however, theres no "plug in your laptop and just search n play from there" - Pioneer's only player that did anything with a PC was their rather unsuccessful DMP-555 - which recently suffered/benefited from a 50% price cut in the states a few months back.

If you're looking at plugging a professional controller into a domestic laptop, then theres either the rather pricey Hercules and/or DAC style controllers which are usually dedicated to very specific "DJ" software packages - eg: Controller "A" witll only work with Software "A".

Alternatively, in September you'll be able to ditch the laptop and use something like the Numark Director D2 - for about £425 - a professional device that plugs into memory sticks/pen drives and external PC harddrives and doesnt rely on dodgy Windows, hot lappys, DLL files, conflicting drivers, virus's, software incompatibilities and is really designed for (cliche warning) The rigors of the road..

woah...long read there but very useful...thanks alot man!

if thats the case, then the only way to play mp3s on the 200s are through cdrs then, right? and i just asked my friend again...had a misunderstanding...he was saying to plug the laptop to the mixer, not the 200s...to ANY mixer, so i can even the 100s to play mp3s?? true? not sure about this though...

the Numark Director D2 is a bit expensive for me though since im only starting...i just want the cdj100 since i have played around with it before and really liked it...but the reason i might go for the 200 is because of the mp3 function...which is really important to me...

what you guys think about this one then?

yes

but depends on what you want to do....

if your planning on going moble disco then get a dual deck and rack it in the same case as your mixer...

http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif The 100's wont play MP3's. The Pioneer bods were still in their "MP3 = Piracy" train of thought up until about a year ago - at least thats the impression I got when viewing their forum back then - consequently other CD-decks offer more MP3 features than Pioneer - who are a little behind the game now.

For example: How would you like to be able to slip a CD into a DJ CD-deck, and NOT have to refer to a paper list of tracks to find that "Castles in the sky" is track one hundred and seventy seven on the CD... and how would you like to be playing one MP3 track on the CD-deck, choose the next track by Track name, or artist name and seamlessly have the that track crossfade over a few seconds into the original track? The Pioneers wont do this, but newly designed machines will.

Both the MP3 library feature which allows you to search through the disc by artist name or song title even while the disc is playing, and also the Next Track feature are found on the Denon DN-S1000 CD-deck. Its suggested retail price is £379, but I've seen prices of £299 over the last few months.

in my opinion its more worth your time and money to save up and get the 200's... i was in a similar situation and ended up buying 3 (dont ask why) 100's and as soon as i had a go on the 200's i bought a pair....it doesnt only hve mp3 playback which is differnt...there is a better jog wheel..effects..loop points....none of which you found/ or were any good on the 100's

Hi Otobot

The Denon DN-S1000 is about the same price as the Pioneer CDJ100, and even ignoring its mp3 capability, it still has many features that the CDJ100 doesn't. (I'm beginning to sound like Gary! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif )

In fact I'm thinking of upgrading my Pioneer CDJ500S's to Denon DN-S1000's, even though the Denons cost less than my Pioneers did.

Thinking about it again, you might be better off with a pair of second hand Pioneer CDJ500S's, and I know where you can get some well looked after ones. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

No, I may sell my pair if I get some Denon DN-S1000's.

They would get you going for a low outlay, but realistically you're better off with the Denons if you can afford them.

well...im savin up for a pair of cdj200s and an average mixer...and since the price of the DN-S1000's is between the 100s n 200s...i might consider it when im gonna buy the set

No, they really are OK, and very useable Marc. However, I have serious doubts about the ION kit you refer to OBOT, that is really low quality budget stuff, better off finding a pair of better quality second hand dex
