dont think i would leave anyone to look after my gear, especialy just to make them look stupid,i thought we were meant to entertain the crowd,to be rude and obnoxious isnt clever IMO.we all get the i used tobe a dj bloke and i think its not too much to humor him.as for the can i have a look at your cd's bloke i carry a folder with a list they are welcome to look at.but would never let anyone behind the decks without knowing them

you know, I may be out of place here, and letting people get away with it but

Dont all shout at once, if they have asked nicely and the gig is going well then I will, and if they are sober enough.

My cataloguing system is so complex I can barely work it (note to self, sort it out) so they dont stand a chance of translating a song they find into an actual CD

Normally, polite no, rising to forceful.

I never pen myself in..... just maintain an air of "dont go near them"

Have lent CD's to a girl for a DJ in another room doing another wedding (he didnt have Rock DJ when it was the biggest song going)... got a very nice ring as a deposit....... got that cd back.

Equally, lost a load of CD's few years back

Turned up when i cleaned the car before selling it.....

ho hum

next time they ask to look through your CD's or use your gear, ask them if they also go down to the local morgue and ask to look at the bodies

Oh yes absolutely! It's very prominant in our contract.

I have a 200 page book with all my CD's listed in it. I leave it on a table/chair near the edge of where I am working. The front cover is clearly marked "CD'S" etc.

I also have a clipboard next to it for requests/announcements.

Works very well for me.

So now we know Ronans' chat up line ............. 'Wanna see my CDs' :dan+ju:

I used to use the 'Do you wanna see my 12" special edition" but then it went down to 7" single and now with a CD being just over 4 1/2" I gave up ............ how about 'Do you wanna see my hard drive?'

and before Paula spots this I'll beat her to it

Never have the problem of leaving the desk alone myself, as I DJ with 5 other people (not at the same time, obviously), which means the decks are never left alone.

And people rarely ask to look at our CD's, not really sure why, but its probably because the dancefloor is pretty much full all night, a rockin' and a ravin'. The people who do want to look through them always ask before anyway, so its always a polite 'What do you want?', they say, we play. If it's a good song of course.

The only problem we have is the drinks being left on the front of the table, can get pretty crowded after a while, so the people who've already played their sets generally help 'clean up'.

Sounds like you not need to move to Kent, we rarely get any problems from people, and if they do start getting a bit grrr, we just get the security to move in.

Easy Peasy.
