spinner 0
Do you ever get people who simply march up and start looking through your CDs? Wedding last night. Good crowd. Nice people. Successful evening. However, one girl appeared and started thumbing through my CDs. When asked what she was doing she said "looking for inspiration". I got rid of her, politely. Shortly afterwards a youngish guy came up and did the same thing. I asked him to desist and he went away. 20 minutes later he was back and doing it again. He said "Im having a great time. What would you put on that would really get people going?" I said "It looks pretty good to me already" he agreed and went. Then he came back and did it again. This time I had to be more forceful and explain that he was in the way. I suppose the more people drink the more their judgement is affected. Certainly their inhibitions are shed. But I wonder how they would feel if I walked into their place of work and started looking through their stuff? I use trapezoid ABS bass bins. I've never had to worry about people putting drinks on them because the tops have a gentle slope which means a drink won't stay there. Unfortunately that didn't deter people last night!! I spotted two glasses on one bin and moved them to a table. I missed the third - the bin's vibrations had knocked it off already, spilling its contents over the bin and the speaker cable. Then someone tried again to put a drink on the same bin. It started slipping backwards almost immediately but I managed to catch it and put it on a table. Fifteen minutes later that same person was about to put a drink on my other bin. I said "no" so he put it at the foot of my starcloth booth - another potential recipe for disaster so I moved it to a table. He was a nice guy and apologetic but, again, alcohol must have affected his common sense. I guess people don't realise the potential consequences of their actions but why do they think it OK to do what they do?

Andy Westcott 0
I've lost a few CDs that way. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/mad.gif Most frequent offenders seem to be teenage girls, and in the late nineties I resolved to stop people altogether from coming behind and looking through the CDs/records, not that I've ever liked it anyhow. I know I lost 4 CD singles on one occasion when 3 girls came up and started looking through - they were removed sharpish, but it wasn't until a gig or two later I discovered the theft. NO-ONE comes behind now - if they want a request, they can darn well ask for it over the front.

Danno13 0
I have the sleep, power off etc. keys turned of on my pc.. as i've made the mistake of hitting them myself before! It really is an advantage in this case when using a PC.. the last thing i want to be doing is fencing off the area i'm working in.. i like people to be able to come up and request/chat etc. without having to lean over the front (which is more of a risk of damaging equipment, IMO) and shout above the music...
