I can see that this thread was created just a few minutes after I made a post about the custom cases being made for the Bose L1's on a thread clearly titled as being about cases for the Bose system, if it was that post that caused you this anguish it would seem a bit OTT, surely no member on the forum is forced to read every single post/thread http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif anyone that is fed up of hearing about the Bose system would surely be advised not to read any threads on which the subject matter is clearly titled as being about Bose http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

However, I agree that it's wrong that some people choose to mention the Bose system on many other completely unrelated threads and I'd agree that is pretty tedious http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sleep1.gif and some of the praise is well OTT even to me and I own one of these systems! so I can imagine how galling it must be for people that are fed up of it all, hearing others bang on about how wonderful they are http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/mad.gif

I think you'll just have to expect that when something as different (and for many of us, revolutionary) comes on the market, that you can expect the early adapters to be talking about it excitedly and often.

It's human nature.

My thoughts exactly this system has really changed peoples way of thinking when it comes to discos and what they traditionally look like.

They're speakers, its about the sound.

I also don't see anything too revolutionary about them. The bass are more than likely 4th or 6th order bandpass boxes (Bose still holds the patents for 6th so it would seem daft they wouldn't use them, and they provide high output in the passband) and the mids/tops are probably multiple small format vertical arrays or a large format ribbon (again, known for low distortion due to much reduced moving mass of components).

Maybe that they've been done in a smaller package than previously makes them revolutionary, i don't know.....

I've no interest the Bose system, and certainly won't be buying one, but I've got no complaints about how often it's mentioned, provided it's in context with the thread that the post appears on.

My view is that if the thread is abut Bose, and you're not interested in Bose, then don't read the thread. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

Same applies to any other topic really. I've no interest in Trance music, so if the threads is about that, I just quickly skip through it to perform my Mod duties.

Personally I think if you asked the majority of people who have recently attended any functions where a mobile disco has been employed they would have little idea of the equipment used (or care), as long as it worked okay and there were no problems with the equipment.

They may comment on the quality of the DJ, the type of music played, the venue but few if any will comment on the equipment used.

Bearing in mind that pretty much 50% or the attendees will be woman/girls who will have little interest in equipment at all, (apologies in advance to any female DJs who may be interested) within 2 hours of the function starting 80%+ of attendees will have consumed a fair amount of alcohol and as long as there is music playing for them to dance/listen to they will also care little.

Too much value seems to be being placed on the type/size/make of equipment by us Djs ourselves. If it works for you, you are happy with the sound, it is within your budget and you have plenty of work coming in then who really cares if it is EV, BOSE, Gemini, Warrior or any other make you care to mention.

A case in point is Ads. Andy has five weddings and a quiz-night this week.

He has reliable gear that he is comfortable with, but little of it would be classed as the best available (biggest names), and he has used some budget stuff as well. He gets his bookings on the quality of his work, his reliability, the clients liking the way he does things and from personal recommendation. He would get no more bookings if he changed his Warrior speakers for EVs, or his complete system for a BOSE setup.

There is too much snobbery placed on what gear we use and how we perceive others who may have different gear. On discussing this topic with Gary Cee he told me when he goes to see other artists/discos he often looks at the makes of their kit and has formed an idea of what he can expect from the entertainer based on that.

If someone had loads of money to burn and wanted to become a DJ they could buy 2 BOSE L1 systems, Denon/Pioneer Cd Players, Denon/Pioneer Mixer, every CD in the back catalogue, 2 laptops, the best mike available with the best leads and every bit of kit imaginable, but it would not make them a good DJ or "entertainer" this would only come with experience/knowledge and unfortunately that can not be bought.

I am not for one minute suggesting that my set of 400 watt RMS "The Box" Bi-Amped Active speakers will be the equal of a similar specified set of Mackie SRM450 but at the price I paid (under £400 pair) which was considerably less than half the price of the Mackies I do not suspect the majority of the public could tell the difference. If they last half as long then I will buy another pair and still have change from what I would have spent on the Mackies.

In fact I spent under £800 and bought a pair of 15" 400 watt rms Bi-amped active cabs and a pair of 15" 300 watt rms active bass bins giving me 700 watts rms/side and I would suspect the sound would be fuller/louder than the Mackies, and still saved £200+ on the Mackies price, with a fair bit of inbuilt backup.

At the end of the day, it is about what you yourself are happy with. I have often thought:-

How many people would realise that my speakers were cheap variants if I bought some EV, BOSE or Mackie stickers and stuck them over the current badges?

Dear Santa...

Please can we add "Bose" "PAS" and "L1" to the forum filters.  (****)

OK, I mean the above in jest, but there have been times over the last X months where the forum stood a good chance of never needing the services of a barber ever again (oooh thats a bit deep for 9:30am), due to Bose spam in unrelated threads. Sadly, that practice means/meant that the idea of "If it says Bose in the title of the thread, dont read it" didn't always work.

On the flip side, there was a thread recently that asked for opinions from Bose owners "Hows your bose", and non-owners, including those who had dismissed the bose as unsuitable for their requirements. Mind you, one line of thought says that its a good idea to hear from the members who decided not to, where they state "and heres why" - incase the person asking the question might hit the same snags as those already decided not to go for the L1. After all, you're not going to hear anything bad about BMW when calling the BMW sales hotline, are you.

For bose, sorry those - members sick to the back teeth of a certain vertically inclined powered speaker being shoved lengthways, sideways, upwards and downwards into any possible textual nook & cranny by a tiny minority of members can perhaps draw solice from the statistical fact that the message seems to be getting through - That product is getting less mentions in the last month, than in the previous 4 x 30 day periods.

Whether thats the interest/learning curve dying off, or whether the instigators of so many incorprative postings are realising that over-marketing can have the reverse affect, (both to the product and the posting member) to what they're trying to acheive.

Don't everyone take this 'too' seriously!

It is a fact though - the L1 PAS theme does seem to go on and on and on and on.....

Why doesn't someone start an L1 supporters club?

How many DJ's use the Bose catalogue as a substitute for porn?

Ha! I could just imagine someones wife walking into them in the bathroom....

"But darling - they're only speakers...!"

you have hit the nail on the head.... its not about the quality of the equipment, its about the quality of the DJ!

And linking to another thread, many of you mentioned how years ago, your 2x12" speakers, and 200w amp worked fine at the time, still had people dancing, enjoying themselves, the same way as they do with EV, Bose, Martin Audio equipment these days... need i say anymore...

Ive been looking to upgrade my gear to more branded stuff like Denon and Pioneers, due to the fact that so many DJ's brand my Numarks in with the budget range, but ive just realised, my gear has enough volume, it runs perfectly, lights the room... im happy with it, ok, it may have numark or Alto written on them, but they sound awesome, and do the job to more than my expectations... why should i buy bose...etc, just because of the name... its like trying to fix something which isn't broke! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif

thats my input.. rant over! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif

if you see a thread that starts with something that you are not interested in then why click it? are you really that bored? also i'm fed up with reading entire topics about what people don't like and this is the second topic in that vein. so before you start attacking what other people are posting about take a look at what quality constructive discussion you have brought to the front today not a lot by the looks of it http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif and i am starting to think that very few people have any dj skills to share since the discussion recently has all been about how big and powerful my equipment is and usually when people rubbish another persons discussion its because its got more replies than their own http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif if you don't like something then do not bother to post in it instead try and come up with something else that will be equally as topical

This is a light-hearted thread - chill dude!

Well called...

I think all this is getting a little out of hand and silly....

For example:

I use Alto 15"s, and SD 18" bins, crest amps, PSL amps....

Rendezvous uses the Bose L1....

Im happy, hes happy.... whats the problem.....

If you are all happy with your rigs, then whats the problem?

forbidding people to talk about something just because a minority have got needled is perhaps a little too much but it would be nice if those interested could continue their debate on the same thread rather than start about twenty different discussions all about the same thing we are all here because of one interest and that is being a dj it is just a crying shame that the subject does not get mentioned much anymore http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif by the way did you know that you can get counselling for a wide range of obsessions these days from eating chocolate to shopping, I wonder if disco equipment is amongst them http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think that this thread has made its point - eg: There's been lots (and lots) of Bose mentions over the last few months, mainly by one, but also to much more sensible degree by a few other members.

Ridiculing ownership of a particular product, is nearly always only possible by mentioning said product - and unless I've read the first post wrong, this thread was created purely to raise the visibility of the fact that this product is being over-marketed here, to to a level which is almost being considered as spamming by some members - and we have Code of conduct guidelines in place about spamming.

By mentioning something that it said was mentioned too much - this thread has pretty much disappeared down its own plughole. I dont feel that further replies to this thread, in the vein seen thus far, can serve any benefit here.

fancy not liking the bose L1,cant believe your sick of hearing about it and then start a post on the subject http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif

we should all be able to say what we like about any bit of equipment as often as we like, even with my computing skills i know how to avoid subjects i dont like on here.

I wouldn't say i'm sick of hearing about it.. but i am sick about hearing how great it is, and how we should be rushing out and buying one. Especially after i heard it for myself at the DJ show north on Sunday. The word "overated" comes to mind. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif

Let them talk Bose, I don't mind. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif

I'm actually quite intrigued by the reports of their amazing clarity of sound, and will try to get a listen to a set at some point, purely to satisfy my curiosity. Only then can I really comment.

I certainly won't be buying any though, and will stick to my trusted home-brew no name speakers, which, incidentally offer well extended bass response, and amazing clarity....... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Go for it, Bose owners, I certainly like to hear enthusiasm for a product - makes things interesting!
